High and Scared

The doorbell sounds throughout the living room and kitchen. I set the cloth that I was using to wipe down the kitchen counter down. It wasn't dirty, I just wanna make sure that it's clean. Call me paranoid or whatever, but this is my first time ever having friends over and I'm just a tad bit nervous. I opened the door and Johhny and Miles stood before me. Johnny was bouncing on his tippy toes excitedly. Miles was sort of doing the same but looked like he was trying to control himself.

"Finally, you're here bitch. You got a dollar?" I asked. Miles rolled his eyes at me. The audacity of my best friends. I think I'm quite funny so this is very disrespectful. "Well, come in I guess you ungrateful assholes." They picked up their bags next to them and stepped in. Ray popped his head up from the couch and waved.

"Hey there!"

"Hey! Ray right? Jay has told us a lot about you." Johnny held his hand out. Ray walked around and shook it while giving me a smug look.

"Oh has he now?" I wanted to smack the look off his face. Johnny probably doesn't even realize what he's saying is embarrassing me. But it was.

"Mom! Dad! Johnny and Miles are here!" The small creek of the room door sounds. My parents entered the room with smiles on their faces.

"Hi, it's so good to meet you." She hugged both of them. Yes, my mom is a hugger. As am I. That's beside the point though. After my mother finished strangling them, my father gave them both firm handshakes.

"It's nice to see that Jay has finally got some friends. He didn't have any back home. If he did, he never brought 'em round." My dad explained.

"Okay, that's enough embarrassing Jay for today. Seriously what's wrong with all of you. I thought you loved me." I pouted to try and prove my point.

"You see that was your mistake. We always liked your brothers more." My dad said with a monotonous voice and a straight face.

"You see now that's just disrespectful because your firstborns are idiots."

"Okay, come on, no insulting your bothers in front of your friends." She rolled her eyes lovingly. They chatted with Johnny and Miles for a while. The doorbell rang again and I already knew who it was. A short walk to the door and suddenly I was standing in front of Amy and Ellie.

"Hey, come in. Johnny, Miles, and Ray are already here." I ushered them in as my parents got ready to go out the door. They introduced themselves to the girls before leaving. They were out the door and we are by ourselves now.

"I brought drugs," Johnny said in a singsong voice. He pulled a joint out of his pocket and waved it around. "And there's more where that came from."

My body felt fuzzy. I'm not sure how to describe it. It's like I am surrounded by a big fluffy blanket. It's so comfortable. I have never felt like this before.

"Johnny, this is literally awesome," I spoke a little more slowly than I meant to. That's probably what happens when you smoke. This is so relaxing, but also a little nerve-wracking. I've never done drugs before so it's really scary. And now I'm panicking.

"Yeah, this is so chill," Amy said. She was sprawled out on the floor just staring at the ceiling. Her eyes just looked spaced out. Johhny is slouched on the beanbag in the corner and Ray is on the floor leaning against it. Miles, Ellie, and I were laid out on the bed. It was a tangle of limbs and scattered giggles. The room was silent for another few minutes before Ray spoke up.

"If any, what powers would you guys get." He said absentmindedly. It's a basic question. Something everyone's heard maybe once or twice. But in my out of its state, this was the most important thing in the world.

"Wait, hold on, I wanna guess what everyone would have." I slithered out of the pile on the bed and went to my closet to grab the notebook I found. When I stepped out of the closet they were all looking at me weird.

"Why did you need a notebook for this?" My hand fished for a pen in my drawer as I tried to think of an answer.

"Because my brain is a mess and I need to write them down to remember them." I swiveled to look at Johnny. "You're the cause of this." A smirk crawls onto his face. I rolled my eyes and crawled back into my bed. As soon as I was settled, I got to work. My eyes scanned over all of their faces before settling on Miles.

"Let's start with you Miles. Open discussion, what do we think he would have." It seemed like a lot of work picking all their powers by myself. Since they're all here, might as well get some help.

"I think he would breathe fire of something. Like a dragon." Amy started. She was still staring at the ceiling but she did take a quick look at Miles.

"You think he would breathe fire? You must be crazy. He's nowhere near the fire-breathing type. Miles is more of an electric type. Like Pikachu, cute and will shock the shit out of you." Ellie explained. It seemed like a good choice.

"Okay, but if we give him electric powers, we have to give him super speed too." I wrote down our choice for him as I spoke.

"True, they go together. Now, who's next?" Miles waved his finger around from person to person before stopping at Johnny. "I've already told you this, you would be like Jean Grey. Telepathy, telekinesis, the works. You know just without the whole Dark Phoenix part."

"I second that," Ray spoke up for the first time during this conversation. "He seems like he would know exactly what I was I was thinking at any given moment." I wrote it down and included flying because who wouldn't want to fly? And it's all in good fun.

We went through the remaining few. It was determined that Amy would be able to control sound, Ellie would be able to teleport and make portals, and Ray would have some space-type powers. Some real cosmic stuff. Like he would be able to conjure stars because he is a star. Would I ever tell him that? No, because it would go straight to his head and I don't wanna deal with that.

Then, we got to me. It didn't go as smoothly as the small bickering that we had for the others. No one could decide what powers I would have. And because of the drugs in my system, I panicked and wrote everything I heard down. From magic to water manipulation to being an empath. The only reason I stopped writing was that I spotted something at the bottom of the page. There was writing that wasn't there before; It definitely wasn't written by me. It looked like Latin or something.

Sit verba accipere vitae

My voice was barely above a whisper as I read the words aloud. I swear that the words quickly flashed a blue color before turning back to normal. The next thing I knew a pain shot up in my head. I clutched my skull and looked up at my friends to tell them something was wrong. Although, it seems they were going through the same thing as well. This was already strange, but it got more strange and much worse.
