Creepy Places Are Creepy

Ellie parks the car in an empty gas station parking lot. The car is pretty much diagonal because she is not too good at parking. We exit the car and I look at the abandoned hospital down the street from us. It's got a massive fence around it to keep people out. That's gonna be a pain in the ass to get around.

"Come on hoe we gotta start walking." I began walking down the road and Ellie groaned aloud. The car honked when she locked it. The sound of footsteps behind me made me think she was following so I stopped and waited for her. Once I did though I hear more than just footsteps for her. It sounds like there's a second pair of footsteps sort of close by, but far away enough that I can't see them. That feeling of being watched returned again so obvious whoever it is can see me. I put my hand out to stop Ellie from walking anymore. I can see the confused look on her face. The other footsteps cease a few seconds after I stopped Ellie.

"What's going on? You good?" I tried to listen in closer and heard nothing else. The feeling had gone away too. Whatever this is, it needs to stop.

"Did you feel like we're being watched just now? It feels like someone has been watching me since I left my house. I thought it would be solved after we drove away but it keeps leaving and coming back. I'm not sure what it is but we need to get rid of it because it's driving me crazy." My voice was low and stressed. Whoever or whatever is watching doesn't need to know I'm onto them. I nod my head back and we keep walking to make sure my stalker doesn't notice anything; if they haven't already.

"Wait, so you think someone has been following you? Is that part of the reason why you were laying in my yard?" I could see her mind trying to put something together.

"I wasn't laying there. I told you that I tripped. What I didn't mention is that I was on your porch and saw something in a bush that I thought was watching me. So, I thought the best course of action was to super-speed over and check, but I slipped on the grass." She halts her thinking and her face changes to concern. I know exactly what she's thinking though because I know her.

"You tripped on the grass by running fast? Why didn't you just teleport over? I'm pretty sure you have that power." It's a good point, truly. The thing is I haven't used that yet and I don't know what would happen. I could probably teleport above ground and end up falling for the second time tonight. And I'm not about that so teleportation is a no for now.

"I've never used it and we literally came here to practice. Teleportation was not an option." We arrive at the fence and it's at least kill 12 feet tall. Guess they really don't want anyone to get inside. "How should we get inside?" I asked as I stared upward at the top. I am not climbing that bullshit. I know that I can climb it, does that mean that I want to? No, the answer is no.

"Well then, I guess it's time to start training early." She's right I guess. Before I could even agree, Ellie teleports through the gate and ends up on the other side. Lucky bastard. "Come on." She hurries like I'm some power expert. The only thing I think I can use to get through is flight. Last time it didn't go that well. AKA I fell on the ground. I guess I don't have another choice so, here goes nothing. My legs carry me up and I hold in midair a few feet above the ground.

"WOAH! This is kinda scary not gonna lie." My body tenses up a little and I fly upwards surprisingly fast. I forced myself to relax and I slowed to a stop. I was high above the fence now. My lungs tightened. The fear of falling skyrocketed even though I know that my powers won't let me fall. Logically I know that. Emotionally? Hell no. I've always been emotional and I'm sure being an empath doesn't help right now.

"Jay come down. You didn't need to go that high." I could hear her words but it felt as if they aren't fully reaching me. It's like my brain is actively blocking out any outside help. Guess my mind is forcing me to work on my own. Because why the hell would it get easy now. For a second I contemplated falling. Just letting myself go and hitting the ground. I force myself to take deep breathes to calm my nerves. In and out. In and out. In and out. I'm okay and I'm not gonna get hurt. My stress turned into resolve and I moved forward then lowered myself to the ground. "You doing okay? It looked like you were panicking up there."

"Yeah, I'm better now. Just needed to center myself a little. Let's keep going." We lock our arms and walk into the old building. Right off the bat, it smells very bad as soon as we entered. The front doors were smashed open. They've probably been like that for a long time. Glass was scattered all over the floor so we stepped carefully. The inside was… trashed, to say the least. Everything was turned over or broken. Most items were covered in rust. Although, there weren't many items left. Whatever used to be here has probably been stolen or taken when the place was closed down.

"Do you know why this place was closed down?" Ellie asked. We turned a corner and went deeper into the horrid place. Debris littered the floor. The ceilings were falling down and the whole place gave off horror movie vibes. If it weren't for the fact that we had powers I would've never set foot anywhere near this place. The whole place just makes me feel uneasy. More than that, it makes me wanna fly as far away as I can from here. For some reason, a small part of me wants to jump off this building just to make sure I can't ever come back. This is gonna be a long night I can tell.

"I'm not sure, we probably should've researched that though." The things on the ground crushed beneath our feet as we pushed on. We were shoulder to shoulder with each other for comfort. Ellie put her hand out in front of me to keep me from walking. "What's wrong?" She doesn't have to answer because I can already tell what it is. We are no longer moving and yet there are still footsteps sounding throughout the hall. They're in front of us, but I can tell they're coming closer. We're standing at a fork so we hid in the midsection. It's better than being directly in who or whatever that thing is lines of sight.

"You look on that side." She pointed at the right side of the split. "And I'll watch on this side." I turned to my respective side and watched the hall while trying to hide. The footsteps got louder and closer. The sound echoes through the hall like an eerie warning. I wonder if it heard us walking. Whatever it is.

"It's almost here." My voice was low, close to being inaudible. I'm still unsure of where it's coming from. It's echoing so much It's hard to tell. Barley visible shadows came from the right side of the hallway I'm looking down. A demonic monster that wants my soul doesn't step out though. Instead, it's Johnny, Myles, and Ray holding each other. There are looks of terror painted across Myles and Johnny's faces. Ray is sandwiched between them with a look of awe. I sigh and pull Ellie from our hiding spot.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!" She shouts. This makes the three idiots turn to look at us. Two in horror and one in confusion. They relax when they recognized us. "Oh, it's those idiots. We stressed ourselves out over nothing." We approach them and I see some of the tension leave their bodies.

"Why did we have to pick this place. It's scary and I don't wanna be here. Can't you have teleported us somewhere secluded Ellie?"

"I've never tried it before. Maybe if I do it you'll dematerialize and I won't have to hear your whining anymore." Damn, that was intense. I know she doesn't mean it but that hurt me. Myles pouted, but it didn't last long. Amy's voice echoed around us as she approached us.

"Thank goodness I found you all. I hated being alone here. This place gives me the heebie-jeebies." Now our little supergroup is all here we can get started and get out.

"Alright, let's go up and start," I said as I scanned the halls for anything that leads to a staircase. There was a small sign with a little staircase on it. Thank goodness.
