Ava was enjoying the wind and lost in her thoughts when a cold voice came from her behind.
"What are you doing here alone?"
Ava froze hearing the familiar voice. Oliver! Why is he here? She felt annoyed for being interrupted from her alone time. She said lightly without even looking at him, "I needed some fresh air, so I came here."
Oliver didn't like being blatantly ignored by Ava. Everyone wanted his attention, and this woman dared to ignore him, she should feel lucky that he was paying any kind of attention to someone like her. Oliver felt angry and frustrated at the same time, he wasn't used to women's this kind of attitude toward him. Oliver sneered and said, "That's a pretty lame excuse, you know."
Although Oliver said that lightly but Ava could feel the coldness behind his words, she didn't want to engage in conversation with him afraid of angering him, so she decided to leave. Ava turned and said politely, "Mr. Knight, I have to go."
Under the orange light, Suddenly Oliver's shadow moved very fast and in a blink of an eye he was in front of her holding her in his strong arms. Ava was caught off guard and froze when realized she was in his arms, she could smell his musky smell mixed with tobacco. Her heart started to race faster and her cheeks felt warm from the blood rush.
"You want to go?"
Ava felt the danger in his two words but she was already imprisoned in Oliver's arms unable to run. She tried to push him away but his arms around her got even tighter. Ava was puzzled, she looked at him and asked in a low voice, "Mr. Knight, what exactly do you want from me?"
Ava couldn't understand his obsession with her. She and Oliver didn't know each other so why was he targeting her? He said that Ava was not qualified to be his wife so what was his purpose for approaching her? She already made it clear that she didn't want anything to do with him then why did he keep appearing in front of her? Or is it purely coincidence that they keep running at each other?
Instead of answering Ava, Oliver asked lazily, "What do you want, you name it, and I will give it to you."
Ava stared at him blankly unable to understand what he was asking. What does she want? Ava couldn't understand what she could possibly ask for, she doesn't need anything, besides even if she needed something why would he help?
Oliver's presence always baffled Ava, she couldn't think clearly when this man was in front of her and if she was any closer than they were right now, her head would completely stop working. Otherwise, she would have understood that Oliver was indicating that he could help her get her father out of the prison. Instead, Ava said, "Mr. Knight, I told you before I don't want anything from you."
Oliver stared at her unable to understand why she was being so stubborn. He has been keeping tabs on her since he saw her at the detention center, and knew everything that was going on in her life. He also knew about her visits to the law firms and the outcome of this afternoon, but still, this woman refuse to give in. Was she so selfish, that she would let her own parents suffer because of her stubbornness? Oliver suddenly felt disgusted by her, his eyes turned colder as he ask indifferently, "Ms. Green, do you know what it feels like to lose the most precious thing in your life? Have you ever experienced despair?" Saying that Oliver who has already let Ava out of his arm took her hand, and pushed her out of the railing of the rooftop.
Ava was already confused by the question Oliver asked, before Ava could comprehend what was happening, she fell off the rooftop. One-third of her body was hanging in the air while Oliver was holding her wrist. Ava's eyes widen in shock but she couldn't scream, she looked at Oliver in fear but in the light and shadow, she seem to see the devil from hell, who was determined to send her to hell. Her life depended on him, if he let go then she would fall and die. Tears came out of her eyes yet she couldn't make a single sound, she was too shocked by the turn of events.
Just a moment ago she was in his arms and now she was hanging from a rooftop waiting for Oliver to decide her fate. Ava looked down in despair, ready to accept her fate, she was certain Oliver would let go any moment. Ava closed her eyes and her whole life flashed in front of her eyes, she will have only one regret, she couldn't save her father before she died. Ava's eyes opened instantly when she remember her father, who was suffering in the prison. She has to save him, she can't die like this. Ava suddenly understood what Oliver was asking her earlier. 'What do you want, I will give it to you.' He could have gotten her father out, why didn't she think of that earlier?
Ava finally found her voice, she said angrily, "Oliver Knight, what do you think you are doing? What did I ever do to you? Pull me back, I can't die yet, I have to save my father."
Finally, Oliver's smile broke as he pulled her back to the rooftop. "Only when you see your life ending, you will find your purpose."
Ava calmed down after she felt the safe ground beneath her again. Hearing Oliver, however, she got angry again. Ava wiped her tears and asked angrily, "What were you trying to prove by throwing me out of the roof, Mr. Knight?"
Oliver laughed and said lazily, "Can't you see Ms. Green I was trying to help you find your purpose. You seem so lost in yourself that you didn't even remember what you want. I was helping you, you are welcome by the way." His dark eyes were shining in the night, sending out a unique charm.
Ava clenched her fist trying to control her rage, what does he mean by she was lost in herself? Was he calling her a selfish person? However she didn't want to argue with this man anymore, she just wanted to leave and run far away from this man. Ava took a deep breath and said, "Well, Mr. Knight, you certainly have a very unique way to make people see their purposes. But what made you think I needed to find my way? Don't just make assumptions about me when you don't even know me. I am aware of what I am supposed to do, don't waste your time on me. In fact, since you have such a spiritual gift, why don't you find someone who actually needs your help! You will do some good for society." Ava couldn't keep the sarcasm from her tone at the end.
Oliver's handsome face turned gloomy instantly at Ava's mockery. "Ava, stop pretending to ..." However, he stopped hearing Ava's phone ringtone.
"Star." She put that as her ringtone!
