Ava took out her phone and looking at the caller ID, she rejected the call without a second thought. It was Jacob and she didn't have any reason to talk to him.
However, a few seconds later, she received a message from him. Although unwilling she still opened the message to see what he wanted, but her face instantly turned white seeing the content inside. Ava gasped for air as tears started to come out of her eyes, there were a few pictures of James being beaten by a group of people in the prison cell!
Looking at Ava crying so miserably, Oliver's eyebrows locked involuntarily, he looked at her phone with a cold face but didn't react much seeing the pictures. "From your ex-boyfriend?" Oliver asked indifferently.
Ava nodded and quickly deleted the photo afraid of her mother accidentally finding them. Her heart broke into a thousand pieces seeing her father's terrible situation at the prison. She couldn't understand how Jacob could do this to James. Over the years, James treated him like his own son, but he not only stabbed him in his back but also he is still trying to make her father suffer. But why? Since when he started to hate James that much?
"There is no point in being sad about this, the best way to deal with him would be to get back at him and make him suffer a hundred times more." Oliver's words were cold but for some wired reason they soothe Ava and she stopped crying.
"But what can I do? I'm such a useless daughter, I can't even get a lawyer for him to bail him out." Ava lowered her head and said defeatedly.
"I can do it. I told you earlier, tell me what do you want and I will give it to you." Oliver said lazily.
"Really! You can get him out? I'll do anything you want, Mr. knight but please help me this time. Please get my father out of the prison. He is innocent." Although Ava wasn't very proud of begging Oliver, but at this point to get James out she would do anything.
"Are you sure Ms. Green that you would do anything that I ask?" Oliver asked with an evil smile on his face. He got her exactly where he wanted her. Didn't he tell her before that she would be begging to him?
Ava hesitated and then asked lightly, "I'll do it. What do you want from me?"
Oliver smiled feeling satisfied, "Well, my terms are as before I told you. Be my woman and I'll get your father out."
Ava closed her eyes feeling like falling into an abyss but she didn't back out. She wiped her tears and said softly nodding her head, "I agree with your terms, Mr. Knight. Please get my father out of the prison."
Oliver stared at Ava and wondered why wasn't he happy that she was begging in front of him, isn't that what he wanted? to see her in pain, then why was he feeling pain seeing tears in her beautiful hazel eyes? Oliver couldn't understand these feelings so he blinked and put on a thoughtful smile on his face. Then he said in a very cold tone, "No! It's too late now."
Ava blinked confused, did he just refuse? If he was going to refuse then why did he say he could help her if she agreed to be with him? And then Ava remembered Oliver's last words in his office, the first day they met after the incident. Ava laughed mockingly, of course, he would refuse. He told her she would beg and it won't be easy next time, but she still proudly left that evening. She thought she was saving her dignity that day but now by begging him, she not only gave up her dignity but also got humiliated by his refusal. Ava lowered her head dejectedly again and said lightly, "I understand Mr. Knight. Thank you."
Ava turned to leave but, stopped when heard Oliver's next words. "I wanted you to agree to me willingly, instead of being forced by the situation just like now. When you are ready to be with me without having to face any trouble, seek me out." Saying that Oliver left without sparing a glance at Ava.
Ava stood there frozen in place for a while. How did she reach such a miserable state? She should be angry that Oliver was taking advantage of her situation, but she could not. The man was also giving her hope! A hope, to save her family, make everything right and fulfill her responsibility as a daughter. Oliver's cold words were making chaos inside her heart. He was right, she had said that in the moment of weakness because she was desperate to free her father but if she had time to think she would probably change her mind and somehow Oliver seem to understand that.
The evening wind was getting even more chilly just like Ava's heart felt at that moment. She seemed to see a silver lining in the cloud but was unable to reach it.
That night, Ava tossed and turned in bed for hours as Oliver's words kept taunting her. She keep thinking about her father, but the more she thought, the more she felt lost. 'When you are ready seek me out'. Could she really be ready to be his mistress? She couldn't make up her mind, she wanted to save her father. In fact, if she had the chance to trade her life for her father's freedom she would do it in a breath but she didn't know if she could give up her dignity. What's more, her family will be heartbroken if ever find out, she had to give up pride for her father's freedom.
Ava looked out of the window, the scenery outside was different from before. Once she could see the most beautiful night scenery of the city through her window every night, but now she could only see darkness. As if her surroundings were trying to match up with her situation. Ava closed her eyes again and let the darkness take over, she felt really tired.
