When Ava got the call from school she was shocked because she knew her cousin very well. Sarah was a quiet, humble, and very kind person, she studied very hard and was among the top students, not the kind who make troubles for others so Ava couldn't understand why would she have a fight with her classmates But now when she heard these girls her she understood everything.
The girl in the far corner called Erin was a bit nervous. She was observing Ava, her dress, high heels, and style, she understood Ava was a dignified woman not weak like Sarah at all, in fact, she had a strong aura around her, very dominating.
"You... What are you doing?" Erin asked, shivering. Her momentum was obviously weak.
Ava sneered but said nothing.
"Ava! What are you doing here?" Suddenly, a soft voice came from the door.
Ava turned and saw Sarah was standing at the door she immediately rushed toward her and asked with concern, "Sarah, are you ok? I heard that you had a fight with your classmates, are you hurt?"
"Sis, I'm ok, there was someone in my class who had a cheap mouth so I slapped her on the face to keep her mouth shut," Sarah said bluntly and gave the girl with the bangs a fierce stare.
Ava's heart was full of joy, of course, her cousin wouldn't get bullied by others, she had been learning karate since she was five years old.
Hearing Sarah the girl with bangs called Tracy got even angrier, she was about to say something but stopped when she saw the department head was at the door, she went over and with a face of grievance said: "Mr. Evan, you see, how she humiliates me."
"Enough you two, come on, make it up and end it here today, I don't want to hear anything about this in the future." Samuel Evan, the department head stood there wearing a pair of glasses, he had a dignified look on his serious face.
Tracy was very unhappy thinking, the department head was supporting Sarah. So she had no choice but to keep her mouth shut for the moment.
Ava looked at Samuel Evan and suddenly thought the person looked familiar. She seems to have seen him somewhere but she couldn't remember where, she was searching her memory and finally, remembered him!
Samuel was her neighbor when she was in elementary school. They used to play together every day. However, after seeing him after so many years, Ava didn't rush toward Samuel to greet him because of the situation and the students in front of them. When she looked at Samuel she saw he was smiling at her showing that he recognized her too.
Samuel looked at the students inside and said in a strong voice, "I came to your dormitory to inform you that I have talked to the other students about the incident today and found out that Tracy had indeed provoked and insulted Sarah first and so she reacted and slapped Tracy. Both of you were wrong to do it, but Sarah had realized her mistake and already went through the detention, wrote a five hundred word review book. Now Tracy you also have to take responsibility for your action and tomorrow go to the detention room and write 500 words of self-criticism book. You know, I hate people who gossip and spread rumors the most. Sarah will move out of the 312, dormitory. If this happens again, next time the consequence will be severe." Samuel put his hands behind him and looked coldly at the students in front of him.
Sarah was a bright student with good grades, as a person she was very kind, helpful, and smart. Samuel liked her very much. He didn't know how but someone exposed Sarah's family background on the school's forum. Of course, he was on Sarah's side and went to the educational office immediately to deal with the matter. He said a few good words to the director to let the issue drop this time.
Hearing about detention, Tracy's face became ugly she said aggressively, "Why would I have to go for detention? I was the one slapped by her, Mr. Evan that's really not fair."
"Oh! Not fair? So insulting the class monitor, was that fair?" Samuel said with a straight face.
"Mr. Evan, you are being too biased! " Tracy was so angry that her face was red.
"Tracy, you bullied Sarah first, I've already talked this down, if you still want to take it further, you will be the one to get expelled by the director for initiating the whole incident. This school has always been strict toward bullying and will not go easy on you." Samuel warned her coldly.
Ava who was watching the whole thing silently at the side almost clapped hearing Samuel. 'Wow! What a strong character he had become, certainly worthy of being a department head!' Ava thought.
After helping Sarah to move into another dorm room, Ava decided to take Sarah out for dinner. She wanted to thank Samuel for taking a stand for Sarah so she invited him as well to have dinner with them.
Samuel decided to join them as he wanted to catch up with Ava. It had been too long since they last met. He took his car, Ava sat on the passenger seat and Sarah on the back. There was light music coming from the radio. The atmosphere inside the car was really soothing.
Ava suddenly said, "I didn't expect you to be Sarah's department head. Sarah had mentioned once that her department head was very young and handsome. I never thought it would be you. Thank you for today Samuel, the way you stood up for her I really appreciate it, Ava's eyes twinkled with gratitude when she said that.
Sarah who was listening to the conversation from the back realized that Ava and Mr. Evan must know each other from earlier, however, she didn't interrupt them or asked any questions.
"Samuel? it's too formal call me Sam like you used to."
"OK, Sam," Ava said with a smile.
Sam laughed lightly seeing her smiley face then said "It's no problem about today's incident, Sarah is a good kid and had been wronged so I would have helped her anyway. I was actually surprised to see you here today I didn't know she was your cousin."
"Well yes, she moved with us a few years back," Ava said lightly but didn't continue the topic.
Seeing Ava after so long Sam was in a good mood so he became a chatterbox, "So I haven't seen you for almost 8 years. How have you been? What are you doing now? Do you still play the piano? I remember you used to play the piano very well".
Ava felt sour at the mention of piano however she masked her bitterness with a smile and answered lightly "I am doing fine and have become a doctor. In fact, I was out of the country for a while and recently just got back."
"Oh! A doctor, that's great! Where do you work?" Sam asked curiously.
"Beijing Tiantan Hospital."
"Not bad. It's an admiring profession, you must feel very proud to save a lot of people every day." Sam said with a smile.
"Yes I do," Ava said nodding her head.
"Well It was actually expected, I still remember in those days you used to be a legend of our school, you were very bright and won many competitions on behalf of our school, so it's only natural that you would choose such an honorable profession"
"You still remember?" Ava asked surprised, it was a long time ago.
They came to an authentic Chinese restaurant, after ordering food they kept talking about the old times. When it was time to pay the bill Ava insisted that she would pay as she wanted to thank Sam for today.
However, Sam wouldn't let her as he felt it was only right for a man to pay the bill, so Ava convinced him to let her pay today and Sam can invite her to dinner some other time. Only then he agreed. They exchanged their WeChat and bid farewell.
Ava took Sarah to a supermarket to buy some snacks and chocolate for her new roommates so that they could build a good relation.
