Sister’s Talk

It was already late in the evening when Ava and Sarah came back to school. The moon was high in the sky and in the dim yellow streetlight there were two figures walking slowly, enjoying the quiet summer night.

''Ava, Thank you for coming today and I am sorry to cause you trouble,'' Sarah said guiltily.

''Hey, you're my cousin, of course, I will come whenever you're in need. In fact, if you had called me earlier, I would have come and taught those girls a lesson myself. But I am also relieved to see that you can take care of yourself well. Sarah I know things are difficult for you because of the trouble aunty and uncle have caused but you need to remember that you didn't do anything wrong and no one gets to bully you or make you suffer for what your parents did. As long as you know you are right always keep your head high. I will be there to hold your back, don't ever forget that ok! ''

This girl was really pitiful, what those girls said today was actually true, her father was addicted to gambling while her mother was addicted to drugs. Her parents often fought with each other and got violent at home, in the middle of her parent's fight Sarah was the one who suffered the most. When her father was sent to prison, her mother ran away with another man leaving Sarah behind. So James and Lilly brought her to live with them at the Green Villa when she was only 8 years old. They all loved her very much and tried their best to make up for the damage her parent had cost, but once playful and naughty Sarah became so quiet that their heart ached for her.

''OK!'' Sarah said in a choked voice.

"Fortunately, Mr. Evan was able to handle the situation today. By the way, I didn't know you two knew each other." Sarah changed the subject, she didn't like to talk about her parents.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to see him here either."

They were walking side by side, the evening breeze passed through them was very comfortable.

After hesitating for a while Sarah finally asked, ''Sis, I heard about Jacob from the news, did he really do all those things?''

Ava paused for a second and then continued to walk, ''Yes''.

''I am really sorry sis, are you all right?'' Sarah asked worriedly.

Even though after the accident Ava became very quiet but she always talked about Jacob and their future together. Sarah always admired their relationship. She knew how much Ava loved Jacob and looked forward to their future, so she could understand, the things Jacob did must have broken Ava's heart.

Ava was silent for a moment, she knew Sarah could see through her sadness, after all, they were really close and shared almost everything with each other.

"Sarah, we're done and I will eventually get over him," Ava said lowering her head, her eyes looked really lonely she tried to hide them but she didn't hide her feelings from Sarah.

"Sis..." Sarah's eyes turned red, she really felt bad for Ava.

Sarah met Jacob when she was a freshman. In her memory, Jacob was a warm and sunny boy just like, the next-door neighbor. He often brought chocolate and delicious snacks for Sarah. How could such a warm person do vicious things like that she could not understand?

"It's OK, silly girl, don't cry, your sister is beautiful, isn't she? She will eventually find the right one for her, right?" Facing Sarah, Ava couldn't cry so she joked instead.

"Of course, after all my sister is the best and she deserved the best," Sarah said with a sweet smile.

"Sis now that you broke up with Jacob why don't you start dating Mr. Evan? He is really handsome and a very nice person and I think he likes you too." Sarah joked.

"What! Little girl, you dare to tease me." Ava said pretending to be angry.

Sarah burst out laughing looking at Ava's reaction.

"Little girl, hurry up, go back to your room and sleep tight." Ava urged.

Seeing that her cousin was trying to get rid of her she made a face, and a childish smile appeared on her face that has been missing for years.

"Ok sis, you should go back too it's already very late. I'll go home this Saturday, see you there."

Sarah really loved Ava's family and always felt grateful towards them for taking her in and giving her everything. To her, they were her real family, her Uncle James, Aunt Lily, and Ava.

"Call me when you are ready to leave, I'll pick you up from school," Ava said with a smile, she was planning to spend the weekend at Green villa anyway.

"Ok!" Sarah hugged Ava and went upstairs.

When Ava got home it was already 9:30 p.m. She entered the house and the first thing she saw was Mrs. Lee's anxious face in the living room. Seeing Ava she ran toward her and asked in a worried voice, ''Miss Green where have you been, Mr. Knight called twice and was looking for you."

"Oh! Ok," Ava didn't care. After being in the school and talking to Sarah she was in a bad mood.

"Mr. Knight asked you to call him as soon as you get back." Mrs. Lee urged.

"Ok, I will," Ava said but she really didn't want to talk to Oliver right now, however, Mrs. Lee kept bugging her so left with no choice she called him.

When the phone rang for two seconds, Oliver stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window at the hotel and looked down coldly.

"Why are you so late, where did you go?" Oliver's tone was a little aggressive.

"Something happened to my cousin at school, so I had to go there to deal with it," Ava explained patiently, she understood Oliver's temper if she didn't explain everything clearly he will lose it.

Hearing that Oliver calmed down, "What happened?" he asked with a slightly softer tone.

"Someone tried to bully her at class and also posted some messy things on the school forum so Sarah got into a fight with her classmates because of that. The Director of Education called me so I had to go there."

"Was it settled?" Oliver asked with concern.

"Well, yes it's settled now, her department head was very helpful and got things under control," Ava said.

"Ava, if you are in trouble in the future remember to call me first, no matter what happens, ok?" Oliver said with urgency in his voice.

He was looking attentively at the traffic down from the window where people were passing, suddenly he felt a little lonely in that foreign country. Since he took over the business he often went abroad on business, but he never felt lonely before. Now that he left that little woman at home, he was feeling homesick and just wanted to go back.

"Ok, I will. Have you had your meal?" Ava didn't know why did she even ask that to him.

"Yes," Oliver replied earnestly as if they were lovers that are very much in love.

"You must be very busy, I should let you go back to work," Ava said not knowing what else to say.

"Ok, good night, have a rest earlier." Oliver turned around, the sunlight was like scattered gold, the flying light shone on his side face, and the handsome face was full of tenderness.

"OK, bye." Ava hang up and went back to the bedroom.
