Erica's eyes narrowed and her face turned cold seeing Kiara. She smiled scornfully and thought here comes the fox spirit.
"Hi, Kiara," Oliver said with a smile.
Erika stretched out her arm and held Oliver's arm tightly. Her eyes were full of hostility. She never liked this woman. She always felt that Kiara was a two-faced scheming woman.
"Erika, you're here, too," Kiara said gently.
Even though they didn't like each other at all, she had to be nice to her because of Oliver. Who told her to be Oliver's favorite cousin? Kiara would not show her real face in front of her, at least not now, not until she was married to the Knight Family.
"Yes," Erika replied coldly.
"Erika, I heard that your new play will be at the theatre next month. I wish you good luck for that." Kiara smiled generously, completely ignoring Erica's indifferent attitude. Instead, she seemed more dignified and decent.
"Thank you," Erika said coldly.
Oliver didn't like to get involved in the women's cold war so he turned to Arvin and said, "Bro, I need to talk to you about something important."
Arvin immediately understood and said: "Of course, let's go to the backyard, I haven't talked to you for ages."
In the yard, the lights were on.
The O'Neill mansion was very luxurious. Adam O'Neill, Arvin's father, was very fond of Nature. Therefore, the decoration style of their house was inspired by natural elements. Garden, Manmade pond, the lifelike artificial waterfalls in the courtyard, All were giving the feeling of being close to nature.
"Why did you call them both? Don't you know they cannot stand each other?" Oliver put down the champagne and lay on the couch. The starry sky in summer night looked very beautiful. He looked up to see the twinkling stars.
"Well, I invited a lot of people, didn't really thought they would run into each other. Besides we are all from the same circle we are bound to cross each other at times." Arvin explained with a smile.
"Don't call them together next time, I can't take it." Oliver was almost scared that Erika and Kiara would end up in a fight.
"Oliver, you need to learn to adapt. You will eventually have to deal with their relationship in the future anyway." Arvin raised his long and slender legs up on the tea table and said happily.
"I think you are really idle these days and that's why you are putting your nose in other people's business, it's boring you know." Oliver understood that Arvin must have a reason to invite both of them here tonight.
Arvin had an unrestrained smile on his face but didn't say anything.
Two young men stayed lying like that in the yard looking at the stars for a while. Arvin suddenly got serious and said: "Oliver, It's been five years already, I think it's time for you to put her down."
Oliver's face became gloomy. He knew who Arvin was talking about. A name that could cut his heart like a sharp knife. This name was the reason for Oliver's whole existence. A trace of heartache flashed in his dark pupil, and his full lips parted slightly to show a smile of self-mockery.
"If she was still here, I would have had a home by now." Oliver's eyes showed a rare emotion, only at the mention of this person he would show his vulnerable side.
"Come on Oliver, you know she cannot come back. You can't keep living like this, you are the only one suffering, you need to let go of the past." Arvin looked at Oliver, he also felt heartbroken for his best friend. Such a lovely girl, but had to leave so early.
"Arvin, have you ever loved anyone?" Oliver suddenly asked with a deep voice, he was still looking at the sky, as if trying to see her bright smiling face in the stars.
Once they used to watch such starry sky till the dawn on the windmill road. She loved to see the first ray of the sunlight. When Oliver was young, love was very simple. The first time he met her he didn't tell her who he was and she never tried to find out, she just simply loved him with all her heart. Their love for each other was so simple.
Arvin smiled and shook his head and one word came out of his beautiful lips, "No."
"When you truly fall in love with someone, you'll understand what it's like to be unable to let them go." Oliver's face was shrouded in a haze, like being surrounded by fog.
Arvin took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and threw it at Oliver. He understood Oliver needed cigarettes at this moment, men's worries always seem to be solved with cigarettes.
"Don't say that my friend, say something happy. Hey! Did you hear the news about Green's Group? It was on the headline for a while" Seeing Oliver lit a cigarette, Arvin subtly shifted the topic.
Oliver nodded expressionlessly and motioned for Arvin to continue.
"Last month, Green Group had business cooperation with us. At that time, their company had insufficient working capital, so they used their house as a mortgage. Then later The GM Jacob Adam framed the CEO in a fraud case, took over their house, and left the family in a miserable state, but now I heard that Jacob guy was in prison and the Green Group was back in James Green's hands." Arvin took a puff of his cigarette.
"Ok," Oliver said casually.
"In fact that Jacob was crazy. I didn't like him at all when he came to talk to me about the cooperation." Arvin said with a smile.
"Don't tell me you broke the cooperation because of all this scandal?"
"Ah! Of course not. I'm a gentleman, I still have business ethics. To me, cooperation is cooperation." He explained.
"Is that so? I don't think so." Oliver said with a deep smile.
He solved all the affairs of the Green family, but he told Uncle Joe to make sure there was no trace of their involvement, so obviously Arvin had no idea he was behind all that.
"I heard that Jacob Adam's ex-girlfriend went to the detention center yesterday. There were heartbreaking cries inside. Oliver, do you think that people's feelings these days have become very shallow? How easily they hurt the one they claim to love." Arvin sighed.
But Oliver didn't hear anything. His face became darker the moment he heard Ava went to see Jacob at the detention center and not only that she even cried for that man, how dare she do that behind his back? Oliver was really angry, his face was gloomy and his black eyes looked sinister. With a sneer, he thought, 'OK! Ava Green, I was out of the country for four days and you took the chance to see your old lover, heh!'
Oliver suddenly stood up. He had no mood to stay at the party anymore.
"Where are you going? You are not going to have dinner?" Arvin asked puzzled. He couldn't understand why was he leaving all of a sudden, did he said something wrong. He was just talking about unrelated people to take his mind off from his ex-girlfriend.
"No, I am not hungry." With big strides, Oliver quickly left the Mansion.
Seeing Oliver leaving back Arvin sighed and went back to his party.
