Meeting Ethan

At Starbucks.

It was dinner time so the place was deserted. Ava entered the café, looked around, and saw a man in a white shirt was sitting quietly by the window. It looked like he was waiting for someone.

Ava didn't see Ethan's picture before so she didn't know how he looked like but she couldn't see anyone else there who looked like was on a date. Ava slowly walked toward the man and stood in front of him with a cold face.

"Excuse me are you Mr. Smith?" Ava was wearing a grey color old fashioned button-up dress that gave an impression of old women with a pair of thick black-framed nerdy glasses. Her beautiful face was covered with freckles and because of her mismatching get up she looked very strange.

When Ava greeted him she observed that the man in front of her was actually very handsome, with thin sword eyebrows, grey eyes with thick eyelashes, full lips, and perfect three-dimensional facial features, handsome!

The moment Ava greeted Ethan, he was frightened by the woman in front of him but then he carefully looked at her and realized it was Ava. 'Why does she looked so different than her picture?' Ethan wondered.

"Miss Green? Yes, it's me, please have a seat." Ethan forced himself to calm down and said politely.

Ava almost slumped onto the seat and put down her bag at the side, her every action looked very impolite and arrogant.

She then asked him rudely, "What's your name?"

"Ethan Smith," Ethan said with a gentle smile, looking very polite.

"Oh," Ava said indifferently.

She learned that tone from Oliver. At that moment she thought Ethan probably was hating her for being so indifferent to him just the way she hated Oliver for it.

Ethan was actually shocked by Ava's behavior but he didn't react at all instead he was observing her with a calm face.

"This is a cappuccino I just ordered." Ethan smiled and pushed the coffee toward Ava. The action was very elegant.

"I don't like cappuccino. It's too strong for me." Ava frowned and started to check the menu.

"Ok no problem, what would you like to drink I will order for you." Ethan offered politely. There was no impatience in his deep eyes.

"No, it's fine I'll have it." Ava picked up the cup of cappuccino and took a mouthful of it without any manner and also made some weird noise through her mouth.

Ethan didn't say anything he just watched quietly. If it was someone else he would have already left but for some reason, Ethan found Ava interesting. Ethan thought it was not necessary to be a couple they could be just friends.

"Miss Green do you have any hobbies?" Ethan asked smiling gracefully, there was a trace of gentleness in his shining eyes.

"No, I don't." Ava's said flatly which was true because she didn't have time for hobbies she was too busy seeing patients.

Ethan took a sip of his coffee, put his slender fingers down the cup, and he smiled heartily, like a sunny boy.

Looking at his smiling face for a moment, Ava really felt bad for treating Ethan like this. If they had met some other time maybe they could try to know each other or at least try to be friends, he was being too nice to her even after the way she was behaving but right now she could not think about it. Her life was too complicated.

"Miss Green you are really a pleasant person." Ethan didn't show any irritation on his face, instead, he laughed and even praised her.

Ethan already did some research on Ava. He knew Ava was a cardiologist at Beijing Tiantan Hospital and she also plays the piano very well. In fact, she was the last Midsummer piano champion. He also found many photos of Ava on the Internet. Ava looked very simple and elegant without the glasses in those photos. The glasses just don't go with her.

"Miss Green are you short-sighted?" Out of curiosity, Ethan asked.

"Well, Yes I am. You know because of these glasses my last two boyfriends dumped me they said I look ugly. Do you think I look ugly Mr. Smith?" Ava said with an innocent look on her face.

Last two boyfriends? Now Ethan could see it clearly so that's what she has been trying to do, she was actually trying to make a bad impression on him because she wanted to crush this date. Otherwise, why would she come on a date looking like this and also mention her ex-boyfriends? But Ethan was not dumb at this point he was sure her appearance today was all fake to make her look ugly. The picture he saw was the real Ava Green.

Suddenly Ethan had an idea he took a wet towel in hand leaned forward and before Ava could realize what he was doing he quickly took off her glasses and wipe half of her face with the towel. And he was right! Half of her face was clean from the ugly makeup.

Ava didn't react at first when she realized what he had done she got really pissed, she started to shout attracting the people around them, "What do you think you are doing?"

"Miss Green, do you think I am stupid? Are you trying to play games with me?" Ethan lightly pursed his lips, and his long fingers tapped twice on the table, his dark eyes were unreadable.

"Yes... So what!" Ava said in a cold tone, but in her mind, she thought, 'it's bad, too bad she got busted.'

"Could you at least give me a reason why?" Ethan caught the impatience in Ava's tone, but he got even more interested in her.

Ava pursed her lips and glared at him. She obviously didn't want to continue this conversation. It's only been 15 minutes since she got here, now she wanted to leave but she could not leave like that she had to give him a reason.

"Sister-in-law, how are you, here for coffee?" A friendly greeting interrupted the conversation between Ava and Ethan.

Ava looked at the man a little stunned, 'Who was he, did she know him and why was he calling her sister-in-law?' Suddenly something occurred to her did Oliver arranged this?

She composed herself and said with a smile on her face, "Hey Louise, yes, you are here for coffee too?

Ethan heard the conversation and was very surprised when the man called Ava, sister-in-law. 'Does she already have a boyfriend? Is that why she was messing with the date?'

"Yes, I was just passing by, sister-in-law is this your friend?" The Stranger's performance was very realistic as if he knew Ava very well and she was actually his sister-in-law.

Ava's reaction was also very quick, she said with a smile: "No, I am on a date with him."

"Come on, sister-in-law, stop joking." The stranger laughed loudly as if Ava said the funniest thing then he took his coffee, said good-bye, and left.

Ava held back her laughter and looked at Ethan to see his reaction suddenly a familiar voice came to her ear, "A Mocha."

Ava's heart missed a beat, she immediately turned to look and as she expected it was Oliver!

But Oliver being his usual indifferent self, didn't even look at her, he just bought his coffee and walked out of the café.

Ava stood up abruptly from her seat and said in a rushed tone, "it's nice to meet you, Mr. Smith, but I don't think it is going to work between us, I sincerely wish you find someone who is compatible with you. Goodbye." She turned and left without giving Ethan any chance to say anything.

Ethan sat at the same place in a daze, and said lightly: "Goodbye." But in his mind he thought, Ava Green we will meet again.
