Uncle Joe took the coffee in one hand and took a sip. He leaned on the sofa and asked comfortably, "Anything useful?"
"No, but the principal invited me to attend the 50th anniversary of the Beijing No. 4 High schools in September." Oliver put down his phone and said with disappointment.
"CEO Knight, why are you wasting your time on this he is not even your rival. Why are you so depressed over this?" Uncle Joe joked.
"You go back to work." Oliver, whose good mood was ruined turned and got back to his desk.
Uncle Joe shrugged and walked out of the office expressionlessly. Before he left he sighed and mumbled: "Young love is very disturbing and tiring."
Oliver picked up a pen from the desk and threw it aiming Uncle Joe's back. However, Uncle Joe's instincts were very sharp so he easily dodged it.
Beijing Tiantan Hospital
During the lunch break, Ava and Charlie were working on their paper. Teamwork always works best when it comes to writing papers. They were reading each other's papers and pointing out the mistakes and problems. As Charlie was from a scholar family Ava felt confident to rely on him to check her paper.
"Doctor Green, are you going to get a Ph.D.?" Charlie asked with a smile.
"I don't know, I haven't thought about it yet." Ava hesitated a little.
When she was studying in England she thought of completing her Ph.D. there, after all without a specialization degree this profession was valueless. But a Ph.D. would take another three years and Jacob didn't want Ava to stay there for that long so she came back. She thought after they get married she will continue her study here but things went south and now she was regretting her decision to come back here.
"I am going to get admit soon for my Ph.D., why don't you take admission with me. It's really boring to study alone."
"Which school?"
"Capital Medical University."
Ava nodded and said, "OK."
"Doctor Green, in fact, you are so smart you could have completed it from England, why didn't you?" Charlie asked casually.
"At that time I just wanted to come back," Ava said with a smile. Of course, she wouldn't tell him the real reason.
Ava revised her paper again and gave it to Charlie to check, "Dr. Byrne, can you please check it for me again? I have to go somewhere urgently. "
Charlie nodded, "OK, no problem."
Ava quickly got out of the hospital and stopped a taxi to go to the Green Group.
Recently the business of Green's Group was booming. This month James got several large orders, so he was very busy. However, he had no idea that Oliver was behind all this.
Ava has been thinking for a while to talk to her father about Jacob. She wanted him to withdraw the case but she didn't know how to bring the topics up to her father. However she couldn't wait anymore, his trial will be held this week. They need to withdraw the case before that, otherwise, once he was convicted there would be no turning back. His life will be finished. Ava didn't want that, even though she hated him for ruining her life. They had no future together but Ava wanted him to at least have a future.
In the CEO's office, Green's Group.
James was surprised to see Ava at the company all of a sudden. Yesterday, when Ava went home, he was at his study discussing business on the phone. He heard Lily and Ava arguing over something, later lily complained to him but he kept quiet. Seeing Ava he thought Ava was at the company to discuss that.
"Ava, why are you here?" James said with a doting smile.
"Dad, I need to talk to you about something." Ava sat down on the sofa and looked at her father a little restrained.
James looked at her carefully. She looked a little restless just like always she did when something was bothering her.
"Baby girl tell me what's bothering you?" James said gently patting her head.
Ava didn't know how to start she was really nervous "Dad, I'll tell you but first, you have to promise me that you will let me finish and won't get angry."
"Well, OK." Although James felt a bit puzzled over Ava's words, he still reassured her.
"It's about Jacob. I want you to withdraw the case against him. I didn't tell you this before, I went to see him at the detention center. That day Jacob told me that the reason why he messed up our life was to seek revenge for his dead parents. You probably remember that 15 years ago you took over Adam's group, well that was Jacob's father's company. His parents couldn't take the shock and jump out of the office building and Jacob lost both of his parents in one night. He hated you for that and that why he did all this. Dad I am not asking you to forgive him. All I am saying is that he is really pitiful, at such young age he lost everything, and now if you don't withdraw the case then he probably will have no future ahead. Although we didn't harm him directly but somehow I feel that we did cause him pain, unknowingly. I know what he did was wrong but he regrets it, I could see it in his eye. So Dad could you please think about it."
After listening to Ava James was angry and proud at the same time. Angry because his daughter was too kind, people might actually take advantage of her like Jacob did and proud because even after suffering so much her heart was so good that she was capable to forgive a person like Jacob. Her heart was really pure.
"Well Ava you have a good heart but did you consider that Jacob might not feel grateful toward you for doing this. And now that I know the truth, I think he is an even more dangerous person if he could scheme like this at such young age. Do you think a despicable person like him could be changed so easily? After all, he did to you and our family are you sure that you want me to let him go?" James looked Ava in the eye and put down his logic clearly.
Ava lowered her head and said softly, "Dad, I know it's difficult to forgive him after what he did and I will definitely not put any pressure on you to do it. I just wanted to tell you what I thought. I felt that his parent's death had unintentionally become our burden now I don't want to take the burden of his ruined life too. Dad, whether you want to let him go or not it's totally your decision and I will always respect what you decide."
"Silly girl, I understand. Give me some time. I need to think about it." James smiled and said softly to her.
"Thank you, Dad." Ava put her head on James's shoulder as if looking for some comfort.
James gently stroked her hair and asked in a low voice, "Ava, tell me the truth, who are you living with?"
"Dad, it's really my colleagues, could you please tell mom not to overthink it? I haven't done anything wrong. The research is about to finish and I will be back home soon." Before she came here she had already expected her father to ask this question so she was prepared.
Eight more days to go and then she could go back to her previous life, there will be no more Oliver Knight. But why at that thought she wasn't happy? Why her heart stung when she thought of leaving him? Did she already fall for him? No...no ..no she could not fall for him. No matter what.
