A Lonely Heart

Ava suddenly recalled Oliver's cold words, who is Sam? When she had a nightmare the other night and Oliver asked about Sam she was so scared that she lied to him in the hope that he will not find out about it. After all, Ava didn't like Sam, she just thought he was a simple and kind man and she felt comfortable around him just like a friend would. Now if he really liked her and Oliver finds out he will kill her. Ava felt anxious.

Thinking about it, Ava opened the WeChat between her and Sam, there was an unread message asking if she had eaten? If it was before the talk with Sarah, Ava would probably just answer him simply but now she became alert. She started to look through their chat history and she got nervous. She never noticed it before that Sam has been sending her message everyday morning, evening, nights, greeting her and asking simple questions like how was her day, whether she had eaten or not. As she was always busy with work she hardly replied to him but Sam never missed a day to send her message.

Out of politeness, Ava replied, "Not yet, how about you?"

Sam almost immediately replied: I am having dinner.

Ava hesitated for a while then replied to him: OK, enjoy your meal. Talk to you later.

She put down her phone and looked at the piano, Ava's heart was entangled with mixed emotion. She opened the piano cover, it was spotless. Looking at the familiar black-and-white keys, Ava was stunned for a moment. Once, there was a girl who accompanied her to play. Sometimes she would take the lead and sometimes Ava would lead, they understood and complemented each other so much that their music could touch thousands of hearts. Now, without that girl, Ava felt her music had lost its soul. There was no one in this world who could understand her as she did and no one will ever be able to communicate the music with her like she used to. That's why Ava gave up playing piano, she couldn't play without her. Piano always reminded Ava of her.

Ava's white and thin fingers gently touched the piano keys and a lonely tune started to play automatically. Her heart felt very lonely. She didn't know how long she had been playing but she suddenly stopped, noticing a movement from the corner of her eyes. Ava turned and saw Oliver was standing there looking at her coldly, her body stiffened and she felt nervous.

"Didn't you say before you don't like to play anymore?" Oliver asked coldly.

Ava was already in a bad mood now Oliver's cold words were making her heart uncomfortable. She lowered her head to hide the sadness and said in a low voice, "I don't."

"Why are you lying, could someone play like this if they hate it?" Oliver exposed her without mercy.

But Ava wouldn't give up, she could not admit it, not to anyone because it hurt to admit that she loved to play, she loved music. Ava clenched her fist and bit her lips hard to control her emotion then she looked at Oliver with emotionless eyes and said "I didn't lie, I hate piano and I hate music."

"Oh, you hate it? Then why were you playing such a sad tune, were you missing your ex-boyfriend? Or it was some other man this time?" Oliver said sarcastically. Not knowing the reason behind Ava's sadness he kept stabbing her with sharp words.

Ava didn't want to keep arguing with him she knew it was pointless. She turned and closed the piano cover, stood up straight, and said with a mocking smile, "CEO Knight, have you ever lived in a house by the sea? The view is beautiful and refreshing there, it might make your dirty mind more refreshed and clean."

Oliver snorted and said, "Well, I have many properties by the sea, I can arrange that for you, you know."

Ava smiled at him brilliantly but said coldly: "No, thank you, Mr. Knight, that kind of life is for rich people like you. I am just an ordinary person it doesn't suit me. I am hungry I am going to eat now." Saying that Ava left the House.

Oliver stood there looking at the piano, it looked beautiful surrounded by the flowers but his heart suddenly felt very lonely.

After dinner, Ava was sitting on the couch with her final draft, she needed to finish her paper as soon as possible. Because of Oliver, she found it difficult to concentrate, so tonight she decided to ignore him and work on her paper.

Oliver was also sitting there holding his tablet in his hand and his eyes were fixed on the screen.

Suddenly Ava's phone beeped and she saw Sam sent her another message. She didn't want to reply so she ignored his message and kept working on her laptop.

"Why aren't you replying to your message?" Oliver said with a scornful smile.

Ava didn't want to talk to him so she kept quiet.

Oliver leaned on the couch comfortably and with a deep smile on his face he said, "Have you eaten?"

Ava's finger froze on her laptop keyboard, she looked up shocked and saw Oliver's beautiful but cold eyes. Under the light, his thick eyelashes formed a shadow on his face, which gave people an indecipherable feeling.

Ava was totally confused and there is a flash of panic in her eyes. How did Oliver know what massage Sam sent to her? Did he hack onto her account? Oliver suddenly laughed out loud, the kind of laugh that could send a chill to someone's bone.

"What? Thinking how I know?" His cold voice was full of anger that could burn people into ashes.

Ava calmly shut down her laptop and asked cautiously, "Did you log on to my WeChat?"

"Well, I'm not that free. You used my tab a few days ago to log on to your WeChat and forgot to log off." Oliver smiled strangely, the anger was so apparent on his face that the smile didn't match with his mood at all.

"Oh." Ava gave a light reply. She added Sam as Mr. Evan on WeChat so she thought Oliver wouldn't know that was Sam. Ava felt guilty for lying but she was afraid to tell him the truth.

"Oh?" Oliver's lips were slightly raised and his eyes were fierce. "Who is this Mr. Evan?" Oliver stared at Ava pretending not to know and also giving her a chance to tell him the truth.

"That's Sarah's Department head." Ava had no idea that Oliver already knew everything so she told him the half-truth.

"Really? So you are that close to your cousin's department head that you added him on WeChat and chat with him every day?" Oliver was getting angrier at Ava.

He gave her a chance to tell him the truth but she kept dodging it. How dare she deceive him like that?
