First Love

Inside the screening hall, Ava was walking on the stairs, she suddenly tripped on something and was about to fall when Oliver caught her by the waist and pulled her closer to his chest. They were inches away from each other, she could feel his warm breath on his face. Ava felt her face was getting hot as her heartbeat got faster.

"Woman, will you please be careful when you walk?" Oliver felt helpless, how did this clumsy woman become a doctor, that was beyond his understanding.

The two sat down quickly because the movie was about to start. The movie was quite interesting and they both enjoyed it. Ava jumped up a few times in her seat when there was suspense and Oliver unconsciously extended his arms to hold her, Ava also leaned on his arms. Both of their actions were so natural that the onlookers would think they were a loving couple.

After they got out of the theatre, Oliver once again held Ava's hand and started to walk. Ava wanted to have some coffee so she asked him, "Can we have some coffee?"

"Sure." Although Oliver's actions were very warm but his tone was as cold as ever.

They walked into Starbucks hand in hand. It was very busy at the shop and the first floor was already full. They stood in the queue to order the coffee.

"A Mocha, what do you want?" Ava turned and asked Oliver.

Oliver was looking at his phone and typing, he said absently, "Same as you."

Ava suddenly remembered when she went on the blind date with Ethan Smith, that day Oliver ordered a Mocha as well. So their taste in coffee was the same.

"Two Mocha, extra-large please." Ava smiled politely and ordered.

Oliver was still looking at his phone, he seems to have a very serious conversation with someone. From time to time his facial expression changed and his eyebrows slightly twisted. Ava thought even when he was frowning he still looked so handsome. Ava was very curious about who he was talking to but she was embarrassed to check his messages after all she was neither his girlfriend nor his wife.

After a while the coffee was ready. Ava was about to take them but Oliver took it first.

"I'll take it, you'll burn yourself." The corner of Oliver's mouth was slightly raised, showing a charming smile.

"What? It's just two cups of coffee, I'm not disabled." Ava said pouting, then followed Oliver to the second floor.

There were fewer guests upstairs than downstairs. Oliver found a quiet corner and helped Ava to sit in, he also helped her to open the lid of the cup so she could mix some sugar. His every action was very polite and elegant, like a gentleman.

"Oliver, why do you like Mocha, I mean most guys like to drink strong coffee," Ava asked curiously looking at Oliver.

Oliver's hand on the coffee cup become a little sluggish, he pursed his lips and said with a light smile, "I don't like to drink too bitter coffee." Oliver paused and looked at the coffee on his hand and said absently in a light tone, "I find the taste of first love in Mocha." There was a tenderness in his cold eyes, which Ava had never seen before.

The taste of first love? Was Oliver still in love with his ex-girlfriend? That's why he likes Mocha so much? Ava didn't know why she felt a sharp pain in her heart after hearing him. Suddenly the coffee in her hand started to taste bitter.

Ava was always in love with Mocha and so was her best friend, when they were in high school Ava and her best friend often came to Starbucks only to have Mocha. They used to spend hours chatting and having coffee. Life was so simple back then.

"Do you still miss your first love?" Ava asked nervously.

Oliver raised his eyes and said with a smile, "Yes, I miss her."

Ava was stunned she didn't think Oliver would bluntly admit to her that he was still in love with his ex-girlfriend. Then why he was playing with her heart, why bother being nice to her and force her to live with him, She looked at him confusedly.

"Then why did you break up?" Although Ava knew she shouldn't ask more about this but she couldn't stop herself. She wanted to understand Oliver. She wanted to make sense of what exactly he was doing with her.

"Well, if I didn't break up then how could I meet you?" Oliver's witty words once again silent Ava.

Ava was dumbfounded for a few seconds then she said angrily, "If you are still in love with your ex-girlfriend then you can go to her. You don't like and care about me anyway."

Oliver's calm face flashed a glimmer of joy. He smiled and said, "What? Why are you angry? Are you in love with me?"

"No, I just want you to follow your heart." Ava anxiously explained. She was afraid Oliver would see through her mind.

It was difficult to restrain one heart for a man like Oliver. She tried hard not to fall for him but she couldn't stop her heart. Even though sometimes he treated her so badly, he also took care of her and her problems silently. He always supported her when she needed him. She still couldn't understand his mind, what he wanted from her and how much he cared about her but she understood he was too possessive about her that's the reason he reacted like a madman last night.

"Little fool, I've been following my heart. Don't worry about it." Oliver smiled like a spring breeze.

As he smiled, he reached out and touched Ava's head gently. They looked at each other and Oliver already knew how Ava felt for him, now he would just have to wait for her to say it.

Suddenly Oliver's phone started to ring, he looked at it and put it back in his pocket. "I need to go somewhere. Go home by yourself. Don't hang around in the mall for a long time." Oliver said calmly.

"OK." Ava wanted to ask where he was going but looking at his face she didn't dare.

Oliver left, and Ava kept looking at him until he disappeared at the corner of the stairs.

Ava was a bit disappointed that Oliver left her like that. When Oliver said he will take her to watch a movie, she was very happy and thought they would be able to spend the whole day together but now he left and Ava was feeling a little lonely. Ava looked at Oliver's empty Mocha cup and her heart felt really heavy, if Oliver was still in love with his ex-girlfriend then did she even have a chance to be with him?

Ava shook her head and banished the thought, she didn't want to think about all this. She just wanted their agreement to end so she could go back to her home. She had no future with Oliver. She needed to accept this truth. Ava took the last few sips of her coffee then left the Starbucks.
