The Complicated case

Ava got back to the hospital and took the file that Susan gave her to have a look. Susan was not wrong the case was actually very complicated, the patient's condition was so critical that there was a very slight chance of having a successful operation.

"Dr. Byrne, please come here. I need to discuss something with you." Ava said to Charlie, who was sitting not far away.

Charlie was very tired so he was about to fall asleep on his desk when Ava called him. He quickly came to Ava with a smile and asked, "Director Green, what can I do for you?"

"Help me to study this case," Ava said locking her eyebrows. The day she took over Director's responsibility such a complicated case came to her.

The case discussion between Charlie and Ava was very intense. Charlie said, "This patient's heart condition is not optimistic at all, he already had heart transplantation more than ten years ago. Normally post-operative survival period is ten to fifteen years on an average for heart transplantation, so it's normal to have heart complications again. Now the patient is also very old and not in a condition to survive another operation. Even if we operate on him chances of his survival is not more than 10 to 12 percent."

"I think so too, but I have seen a similar case when I was studying in England. The experts from Switzerland once carried out second transplantation on a patient and he survived. However it is indeed a high-risk operation and only a few people can carry it out properly, but if we are successful, the patient could live another 10 years."

"I still recommend conservative treatment." Charlie shook his head and said with hesitation. He knew no doctor would take the risk and do such an operation.

"I want to do the operation but I need someone I could trust to assist me. Dr. Byrne, will you assist me to do it?" Ava asked looking at him expectantly.

"Director Green, think about it again. This will be your first operation after you became the Director. Are you sure you want to do it?" Charlie said worriedly.

He knew if her first operation failed then no patient or doctor will believe in her and she might get demoted from her position.

"I have thought it through Dr. Byrne I know I can do this," Ava said confidently, she had a firm look on her face.

Charlie knew he couldn't change Ava's mind she was too stubborn, he sighed and said, "Director Green, if you must take this risk then I will do the operation myself."

"Dr. Byrne, I understand your concern and really appreciate your thoughtfulness but I want to do the operation, besides the patient's family members also wanted me to do it."

Leaving with no choice Charlie compromised and said, "Fine, since you made up your mind then I'll assist you to it."

Ava looked at Charlie with gratitude in her eyes and said, "Dr. Byrne, thank you so much, you are really very kind."

Charlie stood up, patted Ava on the shoulder, and said with a smile, "No problem, I am happy to help you." Who told me to fall in love with you? Charlie didn't say that part out loud though.

After work like every day Oliver came to the hospital to pick up Ava. Seeing Oliver Ava remembered Kiara's words and her face got dark. Oliver could tell from the look that something was not right.

"What happened? Who made you angry?"

"Well, it's just been a day or two that we became official and your girlfriends are already lining up to bribe me to leave you, so should I be happy about that? Ava said glaring at him.

Oliver's face became hard. He knew only Kiara would dare to do such a thing, but he was surprised that she found out already so it turns out she already knew about Ava when she came to see him yesterday.

"Kiara came to see you? What did she say?" Oliver asked.

"Yes!" Ava then narrated the whole story to Oliver.

After hearing everything, Oliver laughed out loud and said, "So you haven't killed her yet?"

Oliver knew Ava's temper very well. When she was gentle she would be like a cute little white rabbit but when she was angry, she will go crazy little hedgehog and would definitely beat people up. He was actually surprised to see both of them got out unharmed after facing each other. Both women were crazy in their own way.

"Don't laugh, it's not funny. You are such a playboy, it's because of you now I have to fight with all your women." Ava said in a displeased tone.

"I swear I didn't do anything and I never took any initiative. It's always them who finds me." Oliver said innocently.

Ava glared at him and said, "Don't be so cute."

Oliver reached out and pinched Ava's smooth cheek. "little girl do you know that how lucky you are, if I am being cute I will only be cute with you."

"Why do people all over the world think that I am actively seducing you?" Ava murmured discontentedly and glanced at him.

"Because everyone knows that I'm too good," Oliver said with a sly smile.

"Shameless!"

"Baby, I swear I only belong to you, I have given my body and heart both only to you," Oliver said with a charming smile.

Ava looked at Oliver and thought he was such a smooth talker. When they first met she thought he was a man of few words but now she realized he talks a lot but only with the people he felt comfortable talking to.

"Oliver, can I ask you a question?" Ava asked biting her lips.

When Oliver saw Ava become serious, he said lightly, "Sure."

"How many girlfriends you had before me?" Although it didn't matter to Ava, she was just curious. An excellent man like Oliver must have had a lot of girlfriends.

"Just one, she was my first love. It was a long time ago." Oliver's memory drifted to that very distant past and his face became fuzzy.

Ava was very surprised to hear that, she never expected to Oliver have only one girlfriend before her. So it seems the playboy image he portrayed in front of people was actually a sham. He was not a playboy at all, so does that mean he had been sincere to her since the beginning? Ava wondered.

"We are the same then, I also had only one boyfriend before you. I've only been with Jacob for four years before we broke up." Ava said straightforwardly, she didn't think she needed to hide it from Oliver.

"Four years? How come Jacob didn't sleep with you after four years of relationship? Was he not good in bed?" Oliver said with a smirk. The thought that Ava gave her virginity to him made him feel very proud and happy.

"Do you think everyone just wants sex as you do?" Ava said with a disdainful face.

"Yes, they do. By the way, has your period ended?" Oliver asked straightforwardly.

"Not yet." Ava gave him a sidelong glance.

"When will it finish? Baby, if you don't let me have you, I'll go and find Kiara." Oliver said jokingly with an evil smile.

"Dare you! If you find another woman then I'll go and find another man." Ava said pouting.

Oliver suddenly stepped on a brake then parked the car on the side of the road. His face which was all smiley a second ago, all of a sudden became gloomy. He leaned toward Ava and his sharp and fierce eyes looked directly into her eyes.

He said very slowly as if trying to make her memorize the words he was speaking, "Ava, if you ever dared to go to another man, I will break your legs and make you cripple."

"I won't, I was just kidding.'' Ava stuttered nervously.

"This is not something funny. I don't like it. Women should have enough self-respect and not be so cheap to ride into anyone's bed, you understand?" Oliver's said softly and his face became gentle again. He took Ava's hand and kiss them lightly before start driving again.
