Green Villa.
Ava and Oliver rang the doorbell and Sarah came running to open the door. She was wearing a cartoon top with jeans. Looking at the couple at the door she was puzzled. 'Didn't Ava said last night she didn't want to reveal their relationship to Uncle and Auntie yet, then why did she bring Brother Oliver here?'
"Ava... Brother Oliver, Why are you two here?" Obviously, Sarah was unknown to the fact that Lily had invited them.
Ava smiled slightly and said in a nervous tone, "Mom invited us."
Sarah frowned and whispered, "Sis, I swear I didn't say anything to Aunt Lily."
Ava reached out and patted Sarah's head caringly and said with a smile. "Silly girl, do you think I don't know that?"
Oliver was still standing quietly holding the bags in his hand. Sarah saw that and with a smile, she said excitedly: "OMG, Brother Oliver did you buy the whole shop? Put it down quickly, it looks heavy." She was very happy to see so many snacks bag.
Oliver and Ava got to the living room and Oliver put the bags on the tea table then looked around. He observed the interior of the house was typical European style. The furniture does not look particularly luxurious, but it gives people a warm and homey feeling. He liked it instantly.
They were chatting when James and Lilly came from inside. Lily was still wearing an apron as she was cooking in the kitchen. She came out hearing the noises from the living room.
"Mom, dad."
"Hello Uncle, Hello Auntie. I am Oliver Knight. Nice to meet you." Oliver said politely, with a sunny smile on his handsome face which makes people feel comfortable around him.
"Hello, Mr. Knight, Nice to meet you too." James also politely smiled at Oliver. For some reason, he liked the young man in front of him.
"Uncle please call me Oliver." Oliver's smile was still intact.
"Sure, Oliver! Please have a seat." James was observing Oliver's every action quietly.
The news of Ava being with Oliver was received by James through an anonymous email. He was shocked to hear that his daughter was dating Oliver Knight from Knight International. Although he never met Oliver personally before but in the mall, there was no one who didn't know Oliver Knight. He was very hesitant at the beginning thinking Oliver was from a very rich family and in terms of business or status, Green's couldn't match with the Knights. So he wasn't sure if Ava being with him was a good thing. But now that the young man was in front of him he was actually satisfied with his polite and down-to-earth nature.
Oliver quickly took out the gift bags he brought for James and Lily.
"Uncle, Auntie this is the first time I am meeting you so I brought a small gift for you." Oliver handed the bags respectively to James and Lily.
"Oh, Thank you, but you didn't have to do that," James said and opened the box Oliver brought. His eyes were bright when he saw the handcrafted pen, he was very happy.
Lily was also very happy to see the white jade Lotus, it's finishing was so beautiful that she couldn't stop smiling looking at it.
"Thank you, Oliver, it's beautiful," Lily said with a smile.
"You're welcome Auntie, I am glad that you liked it."
"OK, you two talk, I still have to finish cooking, Ava come and help me in the kitchen."
Although looking at Oliver Lily thought he looked like a gentleman but she didn't know why she had a weird feeling about him, she just couldn't put her finger on it and that feeling was making her a little uncomfortable.
"OK," Ava said with a sweet smile. She was a bit relieved that so far things were good.
Ava left with Lily and Oliver and James sat down on the couch face to face.
"Oliver, do you have any hobbies?" James asked smiling at him kindly.
"Well, sports and calligraphy interest me and I also like to play chess," Oliver replied seriously.
"Chess? Can you play Chinese chess?" As soon as James heard Oliver could play chess, he became very interested in him.
"A little," Oliver said modestly.
"Then let's play together," James said enthusiastically. He loved to play chess but Lilly and Sarah didn't like it. When Ava was here she used to play with him but now he didn't have any partner to play so when he heard Oliver could play he got excited and instantly set up the rest of the evening plan.
"Sarah, get the chess box from my study."
"OK." Sarah ran to the study and brought the chess box.
Oliver had participated in a lot of chess competitions when he was young. Now he didn't have much time to play but still, there were only a few people who could beat him in chess. However, today facing James he was a bit nervous. He wasn't worried that he couldn't beat him, he just wanted to make his future father–in–law happy by letting him win but he also couldn't be too obvious.
In the kitchen.
Ava was peeling shrimps quietly and waiting for her mother's interrogation to start. Sure enough, after being quiet for a while Lily asked in a low voice, "When did you two start to date?"
"It's almost a month now," Ava said lowing her head.
Lily was a little surprised. A month ago, Ava was still dating Jacob then when did she meet Oliver Knight? She narrowed her eyes and whispered, "How did you two meet?"
Ava pursed her lips, although she knew Lily would ask her this question still it made her feel uncomfortable, she couldn't tell her mom that she was drugged and ended up having a one night stand with Oliver before breaking up with Jacob.
Ava took a deep breath and with a smile, she said "Mom, Oliver, and I met through some common friends."
"Common friends? Which common friends you are talking about Ava? You just returned to China a few months ago, when did you make friends here?" Lily obviously didn't believe what Ava said, but she was not angry at her, rather she was very worried about Ava.
"Mom, I'll tell you all about it some other time OK! Your food is burning, quickly check it." Ava said distracting Lily.
Lily understood Ava didn't want to talk about it and she could not force her to tell anything either, after all, she was an adult. Sometimes Lily thought if she was not too strict with Ava all the time and didn't force her to do things she didn't like, then today the mother and daughter relationship wouldn't be this distant. She regrets it now.
Lily sighed sadly but didn't ask anything else to Ava, she started to concentrate on the food she was cooking.
