A Familiar Face

Historian (Jones House).

Liam came into Michael's study with an expressionless face. "Dad, are you busy?"

"Liam." Michael put down the book he was reading and looked at his son.

Liam sat down in front of his father, he had a brown envelop in his hand. He narrowed his eyes and asked, "Dad, do you think there could be two people in this world with the same face?"

Michael looked at his son a little puzzled and said, "I don't know, why are you asking?"

Liam didn't say anything, he just opened the envelope and a stack of photos dropped on the table in front of him from inside. In the photos, there was a woman with a beautiful face and delicate facial features. The most significant feature on her face was her smile which was like a blooming flower on the autumn morning, so beautiful, so refreshing that people cannot move their eyes from the face. She looked pure and lovely in each photo wearing light makeup.

"It's her..no.. just like her. Where did you find this girl?" Michael stared at the photos with wide eyes. He was so shocked that it took him a while to ask Liam that question.

"Well, I didn't find her, she found me. I'll bring her here within three months." Liam's mouth raised and a sinister smile appeared on his face. That kind of smile could send a chill to someone's bone.

"My son, you are a genius." Michael clapped his hand and the smile on his wrinkled face got wider.

"Well, we all have our own tricks," Liam said with a smile.

"Were you able to win Ava's confidence?" Michael suddenly asked seriously.

"Next month is Grandpa Knight's birthday, Oliver will definitely take Kiara to the dinner party and I will take Ava as my companion," Liam said with a sophisticated look, he had already planned everything.

"Good, take advantage of this opportunity."

"Of course." There was a smirk on Liam's face.

"What are you planning to do with these photos for the time being?" Michael pointed toward the stack of photos.

"I'll upload a few on the circle of friends and let some people see her," Liam said indifferently but his face looked fierce.

520 Haibin road.

When Oliver woke up it was midnight, he looked at the woman who was sleeping in his arms, and a sense of peace filled his heart. Ava has been living with him for more than a month. Oliver didn't know why he was so infatuated with her. He should hate her in his heart but every time he looked at her innocent face, he just couldn't hate her.

Ava's body was curled up in her silk nightdress. Oliver studied psychology, he knew people who liked to sleep in this position were very insecure. When he thought of that, his hold on her got a little tighter, as if trying to give her all the security she needed.

Right now, Oliver didn't know himself what place Ava had occupied in his heart, but he was sure that she could never surpass that person. Thinking of that he felt sad.

Oliver's phone suddenly beeped bringing him back, he checked and saw it was Uncle Joe reminding him of an important meeting that he would have to attend the next morning at KNIGHT International.

Oliver replied to him and saw there was a notification in his circle of friends, Oliver opened it to have a look. There were only a few people in Oliver's circle of friends. Oliver doesn't just add anyone in his circle of friends, he didn't have the habit of making new friends. He suddenly realized Ava was the same, she would hardly make any new friends.

Oliver wasn't sleepy so he decided to check the recent updates, he hardly gets to spend time on microblogging. He was brushing his fingers and checking updates of his friends one by one, suddenly his finger froze on a picture and his eyes widen. Even though the picture didn't have a good resolution but Oliver would recognize that face anywhere.

Oliver got confused, it was Liam who shared the picture, seeing that his mood got even more complicated. How does Liam have this picture? What on earth does he want to do by posting it on his circle of friends? Oliver still saved the photo on his phone which he had never seen before. The woman next to him moved and Oliver put the phone back.

Ava opened her eyes and saw Oliver's gloomy face. She was confused, why was he in a bad mood? "Oliver, you OK?"

"Yes. I'm going out." Oliver said in an impatient tone and got up from bed.

"Where are you going this late?" Ava looked at the alarm clock on the bedside table. It's already half-past twelve.

"There's something urgent in the company. You go back to sleep." Oliver said in a gentle voice.

Ava's heart felt a bit lost, why does she feel like Oliver was cheating on her? There was something in Oliver's eyes as if he was hiding something. Was she overthinking it?

"OK, drive safely. Will you come back tonight?" Ava asked cautiously.

"I don't think I will be able to come back, I have a very important meeting early in the morning at the company," Oliver said absent-mindedly, obviously his mind was no longer here.

Ava got up and hugged him, she didn't know why she wanted to hug Oliver all of a sudden. Probably looking for some kind of comfort or security. She didn't want him to leave but she didn't ask him to stay, she knew even if she did he wouldn't stay. After swallowing the bitterness in her heart, Ava released him. Oliver kissed her on the forehead and left without another word.

Ava stood there with a feeling of emptiness, the sound of a car engine came from the villa yard and Ava ran barefoot to the balcony but Oliver had already left.

Ava looked up in the sky, the moon was round hanging in the dark sky with a lot of stars accompanying it. Ava sat down on the chair, the night wind blew her hair making her shiver a little. She was suddenly feeling very lonely. Ava thought Oliver had changed and their relationship improved so much that she felt they came very close to each other's heart, but tonight looking at Oliver she seemed to see a shadow of the Oliver she used to know. She suddenly felt a barrier between them, no matter how close they come to each other that barrier seems to always keep them separate. She just didn't know what was that barrier and how could she tear that up from between them. Suddenly all the happiness she had all this time felt like an illusion.

Ava bit his lips hard to stop feeling the pain in her heart and walked back to the bedroom. She lay down on the bed and listened to the quiet villa carefully, there was no sound of any living thing on the villa except for her quiet sobs.
