The Brooch

Oliver stared at Ava not knowing why she doesn't care about him anymore, he felt angry at that thought. Oliver shoved his shirt into the paper bag and gave it back to Ava.

He sneered and said, "I don't want your smell on my shirt, wash it and bring it back to Knight International"

"Oliver, is it really necessary do to all this?" Ava felt helpless, why can't he just leave her alone?

"You've soiled it, so you must clean it," Oliver said indifferently hiding all the emotion in his deep dark eyes.

"OK, I'll clean it and bring it to your company," Ava said a bit annoyed.

"I have something for you." Oliver suddenly said mysteriously, there was a smile in his eyes.

Ava looked at him a bit puzzled. What now? She watched Oliver as he put his hand inside his pocket and took out something. When he opened his palm Ava saw a beautiful and delicate deer brooch in there. The car light fell in the brooch and it sparkled like a rare gem. It was very beautiful and consistent with Ava's temperament. Ava instantly liked it, she even could see herself in it.

"I saw it when I was on the business trip, so I bought it for you." Oliver looked at the deer Brooch lying quietly in his palm, and his heart was filled with inexpressible bitterness.

"I can't accept it." Ava felt it was not right to accept a gift from him after they broke up so she refused to take it.

"Keep it. It's very cheap." Oliver intentionally stressed the word "cheap". He knew if she knew it was expensive she will never accept it. Besides she left everything he gave her at the villa so he wanted her to have this until he gets her back.

When Oliver found out Ava wanted to break up with him he was so angry that he tore the letter he wrote for her and threw the beautiful box the brooch was in. He wanted to throw the brooch too but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Finally, he decided to give it to Ava.

"Oliver, that's really....." Ava couldn't finish the sentence before Oliver placed the brooch into her palm.

"Don't just throw it away." Oliver's eyes had a pleading in them but he said coldly.

Looking at his eyes Ava couldn't refuse him anymore. She looked at her palm and her heart felt very heavy. Although Ava was very happy that Oliver thought of her when he was away and brought a gift for her but she was still very surprised. She stared at the brooch for a while with adoring eyes.

Oliver quietly observed her every reaction and the way she was looking at it with tender eyes he knew she liked it, he felt relieved.

"Bring the shirt to my villa at seven o'clock the day after tomorrow," Oliver said with narrowed eyes as if he was thinking something.

"Didn't you say to bring it to the company?"

"No, just bring it to the villa," Oliver said tiredly.

After he came back he didn't get any rest and kept himself busy at work, he was exhausted. The cooperation in the US went smoothly but when he came back this woman made his life upside down. He was very upset. There was nothing he couldn't solve when it comes to business but it's his love life that was a mess he couldn't sort out.

"Ok," Ava said lightly.

"Now get out of the car," Oliver said calmly, his heart was sour.

He knew that Ava wanted him to stay away from him, so he had no other choice but to control her temper and miss her for the time being. He had a more pressing issue coming up, his Grandpa's birthday! Till then he has to keep a distance from Ava. He knew well in his grandparent's eye's Kiara was their future granddaughter-in-law. The old man is very stubborn and he needed to accompany Kiara to his birthday. As long as Kiara was there with him they will be happy, so he will have to do it even if he didn't want to. After that event he will get to the end of the reason why Ava broke up with him, then he will take her directly to his grandparents and introduce her as their future granddaughter-in-law.

"Ok..." Ava hesitated, she wanted to thank him for the brooch but the words choked on her throat because of her emotion. Ava opened the car door and got out quietly.

Oliver stared at her and thought, she couldn't even give a small thank you, he felt bitter and drove away without even looking back.

Holding Oliver's shirt and the brooch, Ava saw Oliver's car drove past her, she kept watching until his car disappeared around the corner, then she left slowly. After returning to her bedroom, Ava took out her phone and WeChat to Oliver saying Thank you. She hasn't deleted Oliver's WeChat, neither did he. She stared at the screen didn't know why, maybe her heart still expected a reply.

Oliver got home and saw Ava's massage, he didn't reply. He just scrolled through the whole chat log and kept reading all the messages they have sent to each other. He never deleted any messages Ava sent to him. Seeing the messages one by one he felt sad, how good their relationship used to be, and now they were like strangers. Oliver once told Ava, she doesn't need to thank him for anything, The word thank you make him feel like they were not close enough. Today her Thank you made him feel exactly the same. Indeed she was not close to him anymore but she will always be close to his heart.
