Ava waited for another 10 minutes before Oliver led her into the darkroom. When the door opened, the smell of corrosion and blood instantly hit Ava's nose and she covered her mouth and nose with her hand instinctively, she felt like throwing up.
Oliver put his arms around her and asked with concern, "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine," Ava said nodding. She was a doctor, she was used to the smell of the blood but the mixed smell of blood and rust was making her feel uncomfortable to stomach. Ava went inside and the door closed behind her. She had asked to be alone with Sam. She knew he wouldn't talk in front of anyone else.
Samuel was sitting on the chair hanging his head low, wearing a dark green shirt. In order to not make Ava afraid of the blood and Sam's wounds, Oliver had ordered someone to change his shirt and clean his face.
Ava scanned the darkroom, the atmosphere inside was oppressive, which made her feel suffocated. Ava walked forward and stood in front of Sam and softly called out, "Sam!"
Sam heard Ava's soft voice and instantly raised his head, he frowned and asked in a panicked tone, "Ava, why are you here?" He didn't want her to see him like this.
Ava looked at Sam's pale face and felt a heartache but she still looked at him calmly and said in a low voice, "I made up with him."
"You made up..." Sam said in a barely audible voice more to himself than Ava.
Sam felt a sharp pain in his heart. It looks like no matter how much sincerity he showed toward her and no matter what he does, he will never be able to get her heart. He suddenly wanted to laugh at himself. Even though he was there from the beginning of her life yet he was always late to enter her heart, at first, it was Jacob and now it is Oliver who captured her heart.
Ava observed Sam and knew he was very hurt hearing that, but she needed to clear things out with him once and for all, so he could give up on her. After hesitating for a moment Ava said lightly, "Sam, after I broke up with him I thought we were done, but Oliver never gave up on me. Last night Kiara exposed the photos of me and you from that night in front of the whole city. It was so humiliating yet Oliver stood beside me. He said no matter what had happened, he will always be there for me and that he will face it with me. How can I not make up with him? After last night I promised myself that I will never leave him again in this life. "
"Ava, I..." Samuel wanted to say something but suddenly stopped. He knew, no matter what he says, it would not change her mind. He could see the resolution in her eyes clearly.
"I come here today in a hope that you will tell me the truth about that night. No matter what you did, I promise I will forgive you. We have been friends for years, I know in your heart you are a good man." Ava said with bright eyes and a reassuring smile on her lips.
"What if I tell you, we really slept together that night?" Samuel said looking straight into her eyes.
"I don't believe it! From the beginning, I didn't believe it. Sam, if I really slept with you I believe I would feel it." Ava thought about what Oliver said last night, body reactions are indeed genuine, she would definitely feel it if she had sex that night. In fact, whenever Oliver and she had sex she would always feel the dull pain in between her legs but that day after she woke up she was so consumed in what Sam had said that she didn't consider this at all.
Samuel fell silent, but there was a faint unpredictable smile on his lips. His whole body was in pain yet compared to his broken heart those pain was nothing.
"Ava, how deep do you want Oliver to hurt you before you will turn back?" Samuel broke the long silence. He felt really defeated this time.
"Why would he hurt me? Even if he did, that's my own problem, not yours." Ava said very calmly with a cold face. This was the first time she was very calm and resolute when she talked about Oliver and her relationship.
Hearing Ava, for the first time Sam really wanted to cry, he felt like he had just lost the love of his life. Today he could see it clearly, Ava and he has always been separated by a galaxy, they could only see each other from afar but they could never walk towards the future hand in hand. In this world, what was more painful than falling in love with someone so deeply yet got being able to get that love back from them?
