Beijing Tiantan Hospital.
In the conference room, Ava was sitting along with other senior doctors of the hospital and the Dean. A big screen was turned on in front of them and they were having a conference call with the specialized doctors from Switzerland regarding the research.
The Doctors from Switzerland were mostly speaking in English so the other doctors in the room were struggling to understand them. The dean knew English but they spoke so fast that even he was having a hard time catching up with them. Luckily Ava was sitting next to him so she was translating the conversation from time to time.
"Experts from Switzerland are saying that if the heart intervention operation passes through one operation alone, it is difficult to succeed. At least three operations needed to perform at once to make the case successful, which is going to put a lot more pressure on the main surgeon because he will have to carry it out without any break, putting all his focus and techniques correctly in the operation. They have decided to perform the first operation next week. So the experts were hoping we could contribute and give them some suggestions." Ava said in one breath not even pausing for a second which made the others admire her level of English.
"What are the risks and what is the success rate to perform the operations at once?" The dean asked in Chinese, and Ava quickly translated in fluent English.
"There are eighty percent chances of success if all the procedures followed properly, and the patient will not have any further complication in the future. However, there are still twenty percent chances to go things wrong in that case the patient might die in the operation theatre." Swiss experts responded.
Ava saw Charlie's face on the big screen. She felt like she hasn't seen him for a long time. He looked tired and even gotten thinner. Ava wondered if he was working there day and night to make the research successful. He was dedicated to his work very much after all.
Charlie was also watching Ava from across the big screen. He playfully waved his hand and smiled at her. The tense and serious atmosphere in the conference room relaxed a lot at that.
The meeting was successful. Ava and the others put down some suggestions and shared their opinions. The doctors in Switzerland were very happy and satisfied with their contribution.
After the meeting, Ava came back to her office, where she saw a man was holding champagne Roses and waiting for her.
"Hello, are you Miss Ava Green?" The man asked.
Ava looked at the man confused and politely responded, "Yes, I am."
"Mam, this delivery is for you, please sign for it." The man handed the electronic device to Ava to sign it.
Ava quickly signed and returned the device to the man and took the roses from him. There was no note with it so she assumed it was from Oliver. Thinking about it a bright smile showed up on her face. Like any other woman she also liked these sweet gestures. She smelled the roses and the light fragrance reached to her nose.
"Wow, Mr. Knight sent you roses again?" Mia walked into the office with two cups of coffee and smiled at Ava.
"I think so," Ava said with a shy smile.
"Ava you are so lucky CEO Knight loves you so much. Last time he brought a limited edition handbag and 99 red roses for you and today these beautiful champagne roses and it's not even your birthday." Mia sighed and looked at Ava with dreamy eyes.
At the mention of birthday, Ava suddenly remembered Oliver's birthday is the sixth of next month and she hasn't even thought of any gift for him.
"Mia, what kind of gift is suitable for a man?" Ava put the roses at the corner of her desk and sat down.
"Belt, wallet, tie, watch, these are some common gifts people chose for man. I don't know what else you can give, I never gave anyone anything." Mia said innocently with an embarrassed face.
"Alright, tomorrow after work, you will accompany me to the mall." Ava looked at her watch. Today she had a meeting after work so she can't go today, it has to be tomorrow.
"OK." Mia happily agreed and they both got back to work.
In the evening, Oliver came to pick up Ava from work like every day. He knew Ava had a meeting today after work, so he was waiting for her in the parking lot patiently. He looked at the passenger seat where a bunch of White Lilies was lying. The whole indoor of the car was full of the sweet smell of the lily. Oliver didn't know why he wanted to buy flowers for Ava suddenly. He was bored waiting in the car so decided to walk around, suddenly he saw a flower shop and went inside to have a look. Looking at the Lilies he couldn't help but think of Ava, so pure and fragrant. Oliver immediately bought them for her.
It's been two hours he has been waiting in the car for Ava, she still hasn't come out. Oliver was getting a little annoyed thinking how could they have a meeting that is longer than two hours. The Dean must be mentally ill. He decided to go inside and take a look. Oliver got out of the car with the Lilies in hand and with big strides, he went inside the hospital. He put the lilies in front of his nose to avoid the smell of the disinfectant, he hated the smell of disinfectants. Oliver didn't know how Ava stayed all day here without getting sick.
Oliver knew the meeting room was on the top floor of the outpatient department, so he got into the elevator and pressed the button to the 36th floor.
Ava's meeting just finished and a bunch of doctors came out of the meeting room. Ava was exhausted after the long meeting and wanted to leave as soon as possible. She took out of her phone to call Oliver. However, she stooped when she heard a whispering noise and soft grasp around her. She looked up and was stunned to see the handsome man in front of her holding a bouquet of white lilies in his hand and smiling at her. The scene was breathtaking.
