Heartbreak

Arvin pursed his lips then said calmly, "I know...I know, Rika. I made a mistake but will you please forget the past and give me another chance?"

"Arvin, emotion is like a mirror. Even though our relationship never started, but like a mirror, it already has a crack in it. How do you expect me to see my face in a cracked mirror?"

Erika's heart already died the moment she found out that Arvin got engaged to Jessica. It took a lot for her to accept it and let him go and now that she did, she couldn't understand why Arvin was telling her all this? Why he was still hanging onto this?

Arvin got a little embarrassed, he knew what Erika meant by crack. "I am trying my best to make up for this crack. Rika I have already broken the engagement with Jessica."

Erika let out a mocking laugh hearing Arvin then said angrily, "Arvin, don't you think you are being funny? You broke the engagement with her and came back to me again. What am I to you? Your spare tire?"

"Rika, please don't say that. You know, I never loved her." Arvin frowned.

He really felt helpless. When did he treat her like a spare tire? He has always been in love with her and he got engaged to get to her. Although he knew his method was not only childish but also unethical but he was angry and frustrated over Erika's indifferent attitude toward him. He thought if Erika found out he got engaged to Jessica she would be jealous. However, it didn't work and now he wanted to kick himself for doing that.

"If you didn't love her then why did you get engaged to her? Arvin, when will you grow up and take responsibility for your actions? You cannot play with someone's feeling like that, you know?"

"I have done all this for you, Rika. I thought you would be jealous and come back to me after knowing about my engagement. I am really sorry Rika, I was wrong. I know what I did was childish and I should not have acted so arrogantly." Arvin said in a pleading tone, hoping Erika could forgive him this time. However, Erika's next words crashed every hope he had in his heart.

"You are sorry? I am sorry too because I don't love you anymore, I love Sam now. I hope you can let this go and move on." Erika said stubbornly, she was really angry at this moment.

Does he think he could play with her feelings like that and then say sorry? However, looking at his helpless and pained expression, Erika was really afraid that Arvin will break her and she will jump into his arm and tell him how much she loves him. But she didn't want to get involved in Arvin's entanglements. So she lied about loving Sam.

Arvin froze hearing Erika, he looked at her with shocked eyes as he asked in a choking voice, "You really don't feel anything for me?"

Erika looked at Arvin with an expressionless face and said firmly, "No, I don't!"

Arvin felt suffocated, at that moment he truly understood, what is called suffering. He was afraid that Erika will really fall in love with Samuel one day. That day Samuel's word's in front of the reporters severely branded on Arvin's heart. In fact, because of those words, Arvin was determined to break the engagement with Jessica. If that day Samuel refused his relationship with Erika, then probably Arvin wouldn't break the engagement right away. He thought if he didn't do it now then he might never get a chance. Looks like he really lost his chance and Erika already fell in love with Samuel.

"OK." Arvin barely could utter the word. He felt dejected and suddenly a trace of fatigue flashed in his deep brown eyes.

"I just hope that we can still be friends in the future. If you don't want to, I won't force you." Erika said lightly.

"Rika, do you have to be so heartless?" Arvin looked at Erika feeling completely lost.

"Yes," Erika said without any hesitation.

Arvin seems to hear his own heart shatter into pieces. He just stared at Erika as she turned and left. What he didn't see was when Erika turned her pink cheek had two strings of tears on them.

Looking at Arvin's lost expression, Erika really wanted to hug him tightly and comfort him but she knew she must resist that crazy idea. That's why she quickly left from there.

Arvin stared at Erica's leaving back and his eyes blurred. He didn't know how long he stood there in the Pavillion when he got back to his senses the sun had already set. He got out of there and straightway head to Oliver's Villa. There was nothing left for him in there. He attended the program today to see Erika and talk to her about his feelings. He was so excited last night that he couldn't even sleep. He thought of hundred possibilities of how it could turn out but none of them ended the way she broke his heart today. What a heartless woman.
