Confronting Ava about Ethan

After the things sorted out with the director Ava left the office intending to go back to the hospital but suddenly Daniel called her out from behind." Ava wait! If you are not busy have a coffee with me." Daniel said gently.

"Ok." Ava agreed with a smile. She thought she didn't have much work at the hospital today so why not go for a coffee with Daniel. The last time she met him was on the school anniversary and things didn't end well that day, so she also wanted to apologize for Oliver's behavior.

They came to a coffee shop near the school. The environment in the coffee shop was very warm. The smell of the freshly ground coffee was in the air. They found and seat and sat down.

"What would you like to drink? I remember your favorite coffee used to be mocha." Daniel asked looking at the menu.

"No...I don't want to have coffee, I'll have some milk." Ava said with a smile. In fact, she wanted to have some coffee, but she was not sure yet whether she was pregnant or not so she decided to avoid it for the time being.

"No coffee? Why? You used to love coffee before, you don't like it anymore?" Daniel asked curiously. He remembered Ava and Melody would spend hours in Starbucks drinking coffee.

"No, I still love it but I haven't slept well past two nights and I need to have a good night's sleep tonight. I'm afraid if I drink coffee I won't be able to sleep." Ava said with a laugh.

"Ava, you need to take good care of yourself, you know?" Daniel said gently and pointed his finger at the menu to show their order to the waiter.

"I know ...I know. So how have you been? Are you busy these days at work?" Ava asked to continue the conversation. Ava had very few friends and Daniel was one of her close friends so she wanted to have a good relationship with him.

"Yes, actually I have been so busy with a case recently that I am only getting four hours of sleep every day," Daniel said with a sigh. His eyes showed the fatigue in them.

He was still investigating Ethan Smith's case. The case hit a dead end but he didn't want to give up, he asked for a month's time. If he still couldn't solve it in one month period then he will give it up and declare the case closed. Daniel knew the case had something to do with Oliver but there was no evidence. The place where the incident happened was a remote place, so there was no surveillance and no witness.

"What kind of case is making you that busy?" Ava asked curiously.

Daniel paused hearing the question, he looked at Ava and said in a casual tone, "Ethan Smith's death case. He died in a car accident last month."

Ava froze. Ethan? Daniel is investigating his death? Ava stared at Daniel with complicated eyes, she didn't know how to respond. Till now she would have nightmares about that incident.

Daniel was observing Ava and he obviously saw Ava's face turn pale so he decided to ask her directly, "You already know about it all, don't you Ava?"

Ava lowered her eyes and quickly calm herself down then shook her head firmly and said, "No, I don't know anything about Ethan Smith's death."

Ava will never admit it even if she died. It's not like she was shielding Oliver but she actually knew that it was all Ethan's fault and maybe what Oliver did was extreme but she still can't expose him to Daniel.

"Ava, please tell me the truth, I know you know everything. During my investigation, I found out that Ethan made an arrangement to kidnap you that day and Oliver came to save you." Daniel clenched his fist and looked at Ava. He couldn't understand why she was denying it? When did she change so much? How could she support the wrong thing? His heart felt as if it was stabbed with a knife.

"Brother Daniel, I don't know what you're talking about, what kidnapping? When did I get kidnapped? I don't know anything." Ava smiled and said calmly. She was too calm, which was a bit scary.

"You know at some point I'll find out the truth, so there is no point to hide it from me. Ava, people like Oliver are not suitable for you. He is involved in a lot of illegal activities, each of those cases can send him to prison for several years, or even sentence him to death. Do you understand? How can you be with such an immoral person? If you follow him, he will drag you down, and ruin your life." Daniel said excitedly and his eyes couldn't hide the fierceness in them at all.

"Brother Daniel, in love there is nothing called inappropriate. As long as two people loved each other, no matter how big of a difference there was between them they will still be suitable for each other." Ava said thoughtfully.

Daniel was stunned at first then he got angry, he didn't know how Oliver brainwashed Ava to this extent that she was not only lying for him but also shielding him. It seems she really loves him a lot. Daniel sighed helplessly. What kind of fate was that? He was sitting here with the love of his life and she was deeply in love with his enemy. Not only that she was actually protecting him, she didn't care if in the process she would lose everything. He really wanted to scream at that moment.

"He can't give you a stable life. Follow him, you will be kidnapped again."

Ava resolutely shook her head, lips slightly pursed, "No, I am very happy with him. Even if I get kidnapped, Oliver will come and save me."

"So, you admit that you were kidnapped that day and he came to save you," Daniel said sharply. He was a prosecutor, one thing he was good at was playing with words and making people confess.

Ava was stunned at first, she didn't realize until now that Daniel was trying to find evidence from her words. She almost blurted out the truth just now. But Ava quickly composed herself and said calmly "When did I say that? I was just saying as a matter of fact."

"Ava, I know no matter what I say to you, you won't believe it but one day you will. I just hope it won't be too late for you to realize your mistake." Daniel's eyes darken but he felt helpless. She was always smart but it's a pity that she was using her smartness to save that scoundrel.

Ava didn't say anything else. She was actually afraid to open her mouth, what if she blurted out something else. Ava sighed and thought it's so unfortunate that the two men in her life are against each other. After drinking the milk Ava made an excuse and left the cafe leaving Daniel there. She was in a depressing mood because of the conversation. Once she wished Oliver and Daniel could be friends but now seeing them trying to tear each other apart she knew that was impossible.
