The Pregnancy

Ava got out of the cafe and checked the time. She realized she had some time on her hand so she decided to go to a hospital and do a pregnancy test. In Beijing Tiantian hospital everyone knew her so she didn't want to do the test there. The 301 hospital was nearby so she decided to go there.

It was very busy at the gynecology department of the hospital. Since Ava didn't have an appointment she had to wait for a while for her turn. Most of the pregnant women were in their 2nd or 3rd trimester, and their husbands were accompanying them. Looking at the people Ava couldn't help but think of Oliver.

"Ava Green." The nurse called out.

Ava went inside feeling very nervous. She still hadn't decided what she will do if she was pregnant. This was not her plan but if she really was pregnant with Oliver's child she will definitely give birth to the child.

After a series of examinations, Ava came to the doctor's cabin with her reports and sat down in front of the doctor. The doctor was in her early forties, her hair was tied in a ponytail and she looked very kind. Ava handed her the test report and waited patiently for her to check it.

The doctor checked the report thoroughly, then said in a gentle voice, "Miss Green, you have been pregnant for six weeks, but you took a lot of contraceptive pills in the early stage, so there could be complications with this baby. I suggest you terminate the pregnancy this time. The contraceptive pills are very harmful to the body, so you should not take them in the future again."

Ava listened to the doctor in a trance. When she heard the doctor's suggestion to terminate the pregnancy, her heart wrenched in pain, as if someone just pinched it hard.

"Doctor, I am sorry, could you please repeat what you just said?" Ava asked with a blank face. During the ultrasound, she just saw the little thing, the beep. It's her and Oliver's child! How could she just let it die?

"You shouldn't have taken the contraceptives at such young age, those things are dangerous and harm the body, as a result, it might affect the pregnancy in the future and create complications during childbirth. In fact, there is a possibility for the child to be deformed. So I suggest, you terminate this pregnancy and take good care of your health and body before you decide to have another baby." The doctor said again explaining the situation clearly.

This time Ava listened carefully and digest everything the doctor said. She didn't want to terminate this pregnancy, it was her and Oliver's first child. Now she was cursing herself for taking those pills, if she didn't take them then this would not happen today. Her eyes turned red as she asked the doctor, "Doctor, the child, would he be surely deformed or it's just a possibility?"

"There is a possibility of deformity. It's still early to say anything conclusively but even if the child is not born deformed, he will have health problems throughout his whole life. So it's better to abort the child." The doctor said again.

"Well, doctor, if there is a chance for him or her to be normal I want to take that chance. Since I am already pregnant, I don't want to give up the child." Ava said firmly.

"Well, it's your decision. I cannot force you to do something you don't want to. But I have explained the situation to you so you have to be very careful with this pregnancy. Come for another checkup in a month. I'll prescribe some vitamins for you. I hope everything goes well. If you have any problem come and see me straightway" The doctor sighed and said in a kind voice.

"OK."

"Are you having any discomfort lately?"

"Yes, I have been very tired recently and feeling sleepy all the time. For the past two days, I hardly can eat anything and I am even having nausea."

"It's normal. You will have to take good rest in this physical condition, and avoid standing up for too long or climbing stairs. You need to be more careful. You must understand, after taking so many pills it's actually a miracle that you were able to get pregnant this soon. Take good care of yourself and let's see what happens." The doctor said and prepared a prescription.

"Thank you, doctor," Ava said with a smile.

Ava left the 301 hospital, and head toward Beijing Tiantian hospital. All the way she kept thinking about the baby. She couldn't help but feel sad for the child and blame herself for taking the pills. If she knew this would happen then she would never take those damn pills. But at that time she was not sure about her and Oliver's relationship and didn't want to have an unwanted pregnancy but now that she thinks about it, she realizes it was better to be pregnant with his child than to harm her own body like this. It was indeed a piece of good news and Ava knew Oliver would be happy to know that she was pregnant but knowing the child's condition she was not sure if she should tell Oliver anything. Ava felt really depressed.

Ava suddenly touched her flat stomach and wished what the doctor said would not happen and her child would be born healthy. Didn't the doctor said it was a miracle that she could get pregnant in such a short period of time after taking all those pills then it was also possible that the child would be born healthy and safe.
