Ava came home after work but she was very distracted. She stood on the porch in a daze while she was changing her shoes, suddenly her eyes fell on the pair of high-heeled shoes on the shoe cabinet. Ava didn't like to wear high-heeled shoes before, but the shoes that Oliver bought for her were very beautiful so Ava started to wear them regularly. Looking at the shoes now she realized she probably wouldn't be able to wear them for the next nine months.
Oliver noticed that Ava was looking at the shoes absent-minded he asked nudging her, "What are you thinking?"
"Ah, it's nothing." Ava blinked and smiled at Oliver. She knew she needed to tell him but she hasn't decided yet how she was going to tell him everything.
"You must be thinking something." Oliver didn't think much about it, he just smiled and hugged Ava then came to the living room.
"I was just thinking, all the shoes you bought for me were beautiful."
"Shoes! You were thinking about the shoes, you silly woman. Those are nothing." Oliver laughed.
Ava sat down on the couch and nestled closer in Oliver's arm.
Mrs. Lee fried the sweet melon that Ava liked, and brought it for Ava to have before diner. However, the moment Ava smelled the greasy melon her stomach turned and she rushed toward the bathroom covering her mouth.
Oliver looked at Ava confused and followed her. At the bathroom, Ava was trying hard to throw up but nothing was coming out. Seeing that Oliver frowned and quickly got inside, he started to pat her back and shoulder gently.
After a long time, when Ava felt the nausea was gone, she cleaned up and they came back to the living room. Ava sat down, touched her stomach, and thought, this little thing was really troublesome but there was a trace of happiness in her heart.
"What happened to you? Why are you puking all of a sudden like this? Have you eaten something bad?" Oliver asked worriedly. It never crossed Oliver's mind that Ava could be pregnant, he thought she must have food poisoning.
At this time, Mrs. Lee came in with a cup of warm water. Ava took the water and drank it, her stomach instantly started to settle down.
"Miss Green, are you pregnant?" Mrs. Lee was an experienced person seeing Ava she had a feeling that Ava was expecting so she asked with a happy smile.
"I..." Ava started to stammer not knowing how to say it in front of Oliver.
"Let's go to the hospital. I think you have food poisoning." Oliver said solemnly completely ignoring what Mrs. Lee had just asked.
Ava's whole body became stiff. She stared at Oliver thinking, why he just ignored the possibility of her being pregnant? Does he not want a child? Ava suddenly became very worried about the whole situation.
Oliver saw Ava had no intention to get up, he frowned and bent down to scoop her up but Ava stood up and took two steps back.
Oliver looked at her puzzled, "What's going on? If you are not feeling well, you should go to the hospital for a checkup. You don't want to go?" Oliver was sure Ava was sick, she has been so sleepy recently, it was not normal and just now she puked. But he couldn't understand why she was refusing to go to the hospital.
"Oliver, I'm fine. Nothing happened to me." Ava took another sip of the water and sat down on the couch again.
"Ava, why are you being so stubborn? You just puked how can you say you are fine? You must be sick. Let's go to the hospital." Oliver said with a cold face.
"Oliver, I know my body well. I am telling you I'm absolutely fine." Ava said biting her lips. She wanted to tell Oliver but somehow it stuck in her throat.
"Fine, if you don't want to go to the hospital then I'll call Dr. Chen," Oliver said with creased eyebrows as he took out his phone from his pocket.
"No, that's not necessary. I'm also a doctor. I know there is nothing wrong with me." Ava said nervously.
"Ava, why are you being so stubborn about this? Why aren't you listening to me?" Oliver was now getting angry.
Ava knew Oliver was getting angry, so she became a little cautious. She didn't want to provoke him so she said in a soft and gentle voice, "Oliver, please don't be angry."
"How can I not be angry? I don't understand how can you be so ignorant about your health." Oliver said angrily but seeing Ava's soft face he calmed down a little. He couldn't see her sad at all.
"I... it's because I know what happened to me..." Ava said biting her lips.
"What?" Oliver asked, his face has already softened.
"It's because I'm pregnant," Ava said in a low voice as she looked at Oliver.
"What did you say?" Oliver's voice was mixed with both surprise and shock.
Ava could see the shock on his face, she felt really sad at that moment, she sighed and said, "I said I am pregnant." Saying that Ava took out her pregnancy report and handed it to Oliver.
Oliver took the paper, read it carefully, and instantly his face changed from shock to happy. She was pregnant? With his child? Oliver felt his heart couldn't hold the joy anymore. The smile got deeper on his lips and his whole body was radiating the joy he was feeling.
Ava stared at Oliver dumbfounded, she thought he would be angry but looking at him she could tell he was actually very happy, and not only that, his face was glowing with happiness. This was the first time Ava saw Oliver smile like a child, it was beautiful. She couldn't help but stare at him with fascination.
"When did it happen? Why didn't you tell me before?" Oliver excitedly hugged Ava. He held her tightly then remember the child and loosen his hold and looked at her stomach. His boy was in there. His baby boy. He wanted to shout and let the whole world know that he was going to be a father.
Ava could hear the emotion and excitement in his voice, a smile unconsciously appeared on her face. "I didn't know until today, the symptoms started just recently. So I decided to check it out. I wanted to be sure before I tell you. Actually, I was also afraid, I thought you don't like children that's why I was hesitating to tell you earlier." Ava said in a low voice.
"Fool, it's our child. How could I not like him? I am going to love him and spoil him so much that you are going to have a headache." Oliver took Ava in his arm again burying his head in the crook of her neck and rubbing it playfully.
"Mr. Knight, Miss Green Congratulation! What would you like to eat? I'll prepare it for you. A pregnant woman needs to eat more and have healthy foods." Mrs. Lee said kindly. Her heart was also full of joy seeing the two.
"Thank you, Mrs. Lee. I'd like to have some Chinese yam and chop soup please." Ava turned and said with a bright smile.
"Well, I'll prepare it right away." Mrs. Lee said and rushed to the kitchen smiling.
