The next day, Ava was discharged from the hospital early in the morning. She was in a very good mood, she was almost running around and humming her favorite songs.
Oliver quickly went through the discharge formalities and was ready to take Ava home. Seeing Ava in a good mood he was also feeling happy, in fact, he has been with Ava for so long but he had never seen her so lively, he liked it. Ava was walking ahead cheerfully and Oliver was following behind closely.
"Ava, please walk slowly," Oliver said gently reminding her she was pregnant.
Suddenly, Oliver's phone started to ring. Oliver stopped and picked up the call seeing it was his mother.
"Hey, Mom."
"Oliver, come to the Mansion right away with Ava." Ella's tone was a bit urgent. She said that and quickly hung up the phone without giving Oliver any chance to speak.
Oliver twitched his mouth and stood there for a while wondering what does his mother want now.
Ava kept walking and suddenly felt, Oliver was not behind her. She turned and saw Oliver was on the phone.
"Ava, mom wants us to go home right now." Oliver came to Ava's side and said with an expressionless face.
Ava was a bit stunned thinking if she had heard wrong, because even though Oliver's parents knew they were dating but Ella never actually asked Ava to go to their house before. Ava asked with a creased eyebrow, "Us?"
Oliver nodded confirming: "Yes, us."
"But why?" Ava asked worriedly, she suddenly started to feel very nervous. She couldn't figure out why Ella suddenly wanted to see them.
"I don't know why. Let's go and see" Oliver said and started to walk toward the exit holding Ava's hand.
Oliver and Ava soon came to the Knight Mansion. As they entered and came to the living room Oliver was surprised to see Uncle Joe there.
"Mr. Knight, you are finally here." Uncle Joe said nodding his head with an expressionless face.
Oliver was a bit confused why suddenly Uncle Joe was here. Although he was Conner's most trusted man and has been loyal to the Knight family but after Conner handed over the company to Oliver he seldom came here. What he didn't know was Uncle Joe was here to confirm what he has been hiding from his family.
Ella was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper and Conner was beside her peeling small walnuts. Oliver looked at his father with sympathetic eyes and wondered what he had done this time to make his mother so angry that she was punishing him again. Oliver sighed and shook his head helplessly.
Hearing Uncle Joe, Ella raised her head and saw Oliver and Ava at the door, she excitedly jumped out of the couch and shouted out, "Ava you are here, come child come and sit with me." Ella looked at Ava warmly and pulled her toward the couch.
"Hello, uncle and auntie, how are you doing?" Ava greeted politely with a soft smile.
Oliver also came and sat down beside Ava. However, Ella immediately shouted out in a scolding tone. "Oliver!"
"Yes, I'm here." Oliver covered his ear with his hand. He couldn't understand why his mother has to shout when he was right beside her. Oliver looked at Ella carefully, and looking at her cold face, he had a feeling his mother was angry with him but he couldn't find any reason for her to be. However, Ella's next sentence confirmed his suspicion.
"Who ask you to sit down? Husband, give the walnuts to Oliver and let him peel them for me." Ella looked at Oliver with an angry and gloomy face.
Oliver was shocked to hear his mother. This was the first time she ever asked him to peel walnuts. Before even if he made any mistake she would punish Conner and let Oliver feel guilty for that but today she actually asked him to do it. Oliver searched through his mind to find out what he could have done to anger his mother to this extent but he couldn't think of anything.
"Mom?" Oliver slowly stood up.
Conner was relieved, he took the small walnuts and happily handed them to Oliver. He leaned on the couch relaxing. Finally, it was Oliver's turn to get punished for his mistakes.
"What are you waiting for? Come on hurry up." Ella said coldly.
"Auntie, umm..." Ava looked between Ella and Oliver she was somewhat puzzled and somewhat embarrassed. Oliver was getting scolded by his mother in front of her, he had no face left.
"It's OK, child. He likes to peel walnuts for me. Let him peel them." Ella turned to Ava and said with a warm smile.
Oliver's face became ugly, if anyone found out in the Knight International that their ruthless CEO was getting punished to peel walnut at home by his mother, he will become the joke at the company.
Ava smiled lightly. "Auntie, Oliver hasn't had breakfast yet."
As if Ella didn't hear what Ava just said she asked, "Have you had breakfast, child?"
"Umm... No, I haven't either."
"Mrs. Winter, please prepare breakfast for Ava quickly," Ella said to the servant standing nearby.
Seeing Oliver's situation Uncle Joe was trying hard to suppress his laughter. Unexpectedly, Ella was the most powerful one in the Knight family. In fact, Uncle Joe had seen it before, Conner loved his wife so much that whatever Ella said he would never refute or argue. He was a typical wife slave.
"Auntie, Oliver hasn't eaten either," Ava said again, she thought Ella didn't hear when she said that earlier.
With her chin slightly raised, Ella raised her head proudly and said, "He is a man. He won't die if he didn't have breakfast one day."
Ava chuckled softly and looked at Oliver with sympathy, who was peeling walnuts with an angry face. Looking at Ella's attitude Ava thought there was no doubt Ella was his mother. The Mother and the son had the same temper.
