The Marriage

Oliver's face was becoming more gloomy every second. He couldn't understand why he was being punished and his hotheaded mother wouldn't even look at him let alone tell him why she was angry with him. Oliver felt frustrated.

"Ava, I heard you are pregnant." Ella looked at Ava with tender eyes and put her hand on Ava's stomach then asked with a smile.

Ava and Oliver both froze in place. Oliver's jaw ticked and instantly he understood he was being punished because he hid the news of Ava's pregnancy to Ella. He didn't expect the news to reach his parent's so soon. It must be Liam's doing. Oliver cursed Liam in his heart.

Ava was also surprised Oliver's parents already found out about her pregnancy when she didn't even tell her own parents. Ava lowered her head and replied shyly, "Yes."

"That's great news. Oliver, Come here." Ella turned to Oliver and said coldly.

Oliver came over and stood in front of Ella like a primary school student who had just made a mistake.

"So, when are you going to get married?" Ella asked.

"Not right now." Oliver looked at his mother's serious face and replied lightly.

Hearing Oliver's answer, Ava's heart shuddered. Not yet? So he wasn't planning to propose to her? The insecurity Ava felt earlier which she has been trying hard to suppress suddenly surfaced again. She couldn't help but think of Daniel's word, 'Do you want him to suffer like, I did?' Ava felt very hurt but she didn't say anything, she lowered her head and hid the pain she was feeling.

"I've seen the calendar, next Friday is a good day." Ella gave Oliver a hard look and said.

"Mom, like I said, I am not planning to get married right now," Oliver said irritated, he felt a headache. He hated it when his parents interfered in his private life.

"Oliver, I am not asking for your permission, I'm just informing you that next Friday you are getting married to Ava." Ella stood up angrily and almost shouted out. She would have slapped Oliver if Ava was not here today. How dare this unfilial son of her, make a girl pregnant and refuse to marry her? She never thought her son would be so irresponsible.

Oliver kept silent, he didn't want to keep arguing with his mother. He thought it was pointless.

Ella thought Oliver's silence meant he agreed, so she calmed down a little and said in a cold tone, "Next Friday, at Suifeng resort." informing the place to get married.

"Mom, I just told you. I am not planning to get married at this moment." This time Oliver also said angrily as he stood straight in front of Ella domineeringly.

Ava frowned, seeing things were getting out of hand, Ava stood up and pulled Ella's arm then said softly, "Auntie, it's alright, don't force Oliver."

"Silly child, in a few months your belly will start to show, if you don't get married now when will you get married? After the child is born?" Ella looked at Ava pain in the eye.

She knew why Oliver wouldn't agree to marry Ava. It's about his ex-girlfriend, for a dead girl he has been putting his life on hold for a long time but this time Ava's life was involved. What's more, she was pregnant with his child so Ella was determined to marry her son to Ava.

"It's ok Auntie, It doesn't matter to me. I can wait." Ava said lightly with a smile, but she felt a little lost.

Conner was quiet the whole time, seeing the situation he suddenly stood up and said in a cold tone, "Oliver, come with me upstairs."

Oliver silently followed his old man to the study on the second floor.

After Oliver went upstairs Ava and Ella sat down at the dining table for breakfast. Ava suddenly looked at Ella and said with a soft smile, "Auntie, I know you are worried about me and Oliver but since Oliver already said he doesn't want to get married right now, I don't want to force him. I want him to marry me willingly not because everyone pressured him to."

Ella looked at Ava and felt a heartache. Ava was really very considerate and a kind-hearted girl. If it was some other girl who was pregnant with Oliver's child then the news would have already become a headline and she would pressure the family for marriage. Whereas Ava was completely the opposite, she wanted to respect Oliver's decision. Ella started to admire Ava even more now, at that moment she recognized Ava as her daughter-in-law!

"Silly girl, don't be too humble to him. You cannot let a man think that you are weak otherwise, they will not value you." Ella advised.

"Auntie, Oliver is very kind to me, I am happy that he is in my life."

Ella sighed and suddenly asked worriedly, "Do your parents know about your pregnancy?"

Ava shook her head lightly but didn't say it.

"Ava, don't get me wrong, but I know my son and that's why I am a bit anxious for his marriage. Now that you are pregnant, your stomach will start to grow, this is something you cannot hide. And I have another selfish reason to pressure Oliver, you are such a lovely girl, I want you to come into Knight family as soon as possible. I am afraid if Oliver kept delaying too much you will find someone better than him." Ella said warmly holding Ava's hand.

"Thank you, auntie." Ava looked at Ella with warm eyes and couldn't help but wonder, how did she get so lucky to find such a loving and caring mother-in-law.

In the study, upstairs.

As soon as Conner entered the study his expressionless face became gloomy and angry. "Oliver when did you become so big that you dared to make your mother this much angry? The more you are growing up the more you are becoming unrestrained."

"Dad, I didn't mean to. But Mom suddenly started to talk about marriage, I was caught off-guard, so I reacted." Oliver said lightly.

"Caught Off guard? When you got that girl pregnant, didn't you think you will have to marry her? How did I give birth to such an irresponsible son?" Conner said in disbelief.

"Dad, that's not what I meant. I am not saying I won't marry her. It's just... not at this moment." Oliver said rubbing his temple. He really felt helpless. In fact, if it was not for Melody's sudden appearance he would happily propose to Ava by now but her appearance changed everything. He couldn't concentrate on marriage right now until he finds out who that woman really is.
