The Text Message

Conner stared at his son for a while, for the first time he was unable to understand his mind.

"Why not now? What are you waiting for? Oliver, please tell me it's not about that woman again. It's been years since you have been hooked on that dead girl. Tell me you have already put her down." Conner was so angry that he was breathing heavily.

Oliver was a bit stunned, his father never got this angry with him before, he knew that things were not looking good but he was also helpless. Oliver said lightly, "No Dad it's not that, I am done with that. Please give me some time."

"Oliver, a successful man is not the one who is excellent in the business world, but the one who is responsible in every sector of his life especially with the woman he loved. If you can't make the woman in your life happy then you are nothing but a loser. Since you have decided to be with Ava you must be fair to her and treat her well." Conner said in a strong voice.

Oliver nodded silently, "I understand Dad."

"I hope you do. Now come downstairs and apologize to your mother." Conner stood up and walked toward the door.

The father and son came downstairs one after another and saw a happy scene in the living room. Ava and Ella were talking and laughing happily. Oliver felt relieved, fortunately, Ava was not angry. If it was some other woman, she would have already made a ruckus here over the issue.

Oliver and Ava stayed for lunch at Knight Mansion and the atmosphere got better after Oliver apologized to his Mother. Although Ella still was not happy but since Ava requested her she decided to keep quiet for now. After lunch, Oliver took Ava home.

Ava was quiet in the car she was looking at the passing people and house through the window. Outside the sun in the autumn afternoon was warm but Ava's heart felt cold. She didn't know if she was actually making a mistake by following Oliver what if her child has the same fate as Daniel? Ava was lost in her thoughts suddenly her phone started to beep. Ava took it out and saw it was a notification from her university saying their assignment results are out and to check it, they needed to go to the student portal. Ava clicked on the portal but before she could check her phone died.

"Oliver, lend me your phone please, my results are out, I want to check it but my phone just died."

Oliver took out his phone without any hesitation and handed it to Ava. Ava opened the browser and was about to sign in to the portal when Oliver's phone received a message from an unknown number. It was a short massage only saying, 'Oliver, I miss you.'

Seeing the massage Ava's whole body became stiff. Is this the reason why Oliver didn't want to marry her? Ava suddenly started to feel suffocated, she looked at Oliver with pain in the eye.

Oliver felt Ava's eyes on him he turned and saw Ava's pained eyes, he asked worriedly, "What happened? Did you fail your exam?"

"Oliver, why did you refuse to marry me? Is there someone else in your life? Is it the reason you don't want to get married to me?" Ava asked in a calm and steady voice. Although she was hurt and felt a sense of betrayal but she was a proud woman she will never let Oliver have the satisfaction to see her fall apart.

Oliver was completely confused by Ava's question. Just now at the Knight Mansion Ava was so considerate toward him and supporting him why all of a sudden she was asking such stupid questions? He already had a lot in his mind and now Ava was accusing him, which made him angry. He said in a cold voice, "Ava what nonsense are you talking about? Who would be in my life except you? Don't you trust me at all?"

"I do or at least I did, but you keep lying to me now I am really not sure how to believe you."

"What are you talking about? When did I lie to you?"

"So you are telling me you are not seeing anyone behind my back? Then explain this text to me." Saying that Ava handed back Oliver's phone to him.

Oliver parked the car at the side of the road and took the phone from Ava. He was also puzzled to see the message, he really didn't know who sent that message so he said in a cold voice, "You are throwing a tantrum over a text? Ava, have you lost your mind? I don't know who sent me this text."

Ava let out a mocking laugh and said, "I knew you would say this."

"What do you want me to say? Ava stop making trouble will you?" Oliver said shouting. He was very annoyed by Ava's sudden unreasonable behavior.

Ava stared at Oliver without any word, she suddenly felt very tired she didn't want to have this pointless argument with him. She knew no matter what she says Oliver will never admit it. So she decided to keep her mouth shut since he thinks she is the one who always makes trouble for him, she will not say a single word to him.

Oliver started the car again but the whole way Ava sat there quietly. As soon as they got home Ava ran upstairs to her bedroom. Oliver came to the bedroom and saw Ava was in the bathroom. Ava came out after changing her clothes and decided to take some rest, she felt tired. However, seeing Oliver there she felt angry, she looked at him and suddenly turned toward the door. She couldn't be around him at this moment so she decided to take a nap in the guest room.

Ava took two steps toward the door but suddenly Oliver held her arm and asked coldly, "where are you going?"

"It's none of your business!" Ava said without any humor.

Oliver narrowed his eyes and gave her a fierce look. How dare she talk to him in this tone. She was making a big fuss out of nothing, Oliver was really angry.

"You can't go anywhere without my permission." Oliver grabbed Ava's arm tightly and pushed her to the bed. He turns his wrist and pressed it hard on Ava's shoulder.

Ava felt pain and lost her balance, afraid she will fall, she quickly sat down on the bed and glared at Oliver angrily.

"Oliver let me go," Ava said through gritted teeth.

Oliver sneered and said arrogantly, "What if I don't? What will you do?"

Ava could hear the warning in his question, she felt even angrier. She pushed him and went to bed angrily without another word. Ava was tired so as soon as she laid down her eyelids became heavy and she fell asleep.

Oliver stayed seated there for a while then laid down beside her in the bed taking her in his arm.

In her sleep Ava felt Oliver's arm around her, she subconsciously tried to resist him and struggled for a while, but she couldn't keep up in her sleepiness, and soon she was in deep sleep in Oliver's arm.
