The sad tune

Oliver looked at Ava and asked with creased eyebrows, "What kind of gifts he brought?"

"I don't know, I haven't looked. He said it's some new winter collection dresses. I put them upstairs."

Oliver abruptly stood up and said warily, "Show me!"

"It's in the bedroom." Ava saw Oliver's dark and worried face she was a little puzzled.

Oliver rushed to the bedroom quickly, turned all the bags upside down, and looked at them carefully to make sure there was no camera attached to anything. His dark face relaxed seeing it was just some clothes nothing else.

"Honey, please stay away from Liam in the future. He is a very dangerous person, don't ever take anything from him. I'll return all these things tomorrow. If you like anything from here, I'll buy it for you, OK!" Oliver said in a very serious tone looking at Ava sharply.

Ava was slightly stupefied by Oliver's sudden warning but she didn't say anything. She just blinked and nodded her head. She also knew Liam was not as simple as he looked, so she decided to listen to Oliver in this case.

"Let's go and have dinner." Oliver calmed down and took Ava in his arm. When it comes to Michael and Liam Oliver has a tendency to get a little anxious. Both father and son were very unpredictable, he didn't know what they will do the next second.

"OK," Ava said with a smile.

As they came downstairs Ava suddenly asked, "Oliver, you and Liam are cousins, then why do you hate each other and treat one another like enemies?"

Oliver's face got hard as he said, "Do you know what is the most terrible thing in this world? Saying that I am your brother but stabbing on your back. Liam and his father don't care about relationships, they only care about money. They can sell anyone for the sake of money."

"Did he do something like that to you?" Ava asked with wide eyes as if she couldn't believe someone could do that to his own cousin.

"More than once. Ava, there are some things you don't need to know, knowing will only add troubles for you. Don't worry about anything just stay away from Liam." Oliver said gently stroking Ava's hair. He didn't want to worry her with the grudges between him and the Jones, those were his problem to handle.

"OK, but Oliver we are husband and wife and I don't just want to share only the good and happy things with you, I also want to share your troubles too you know! you can always count on me and share anything with me." Ava said sincerely.

Oliver smiled and stroked her hair gently, then said softly, "OK."

After dinner, Ava practiced piano for a while. Oliver sat there quietly on the sofa beside her and enjoyed the music with closed eyes.

After playing the etude, Ava started to play another tune. Oliver heard the soothing Prelude and his restless mind instantly calmed down. However, after a while, he realized the tune was very sad.

Ava closed her eyes and kept playing. She was very familiar with this piece of music, she never played it wrong. When it comes to music, Ava was very talented. She could memorize any note she just played for once and could play it smoothly again.

Oliver opened his eyes and looked at Ava's straight back, which was moving with the rhythm of the music. Her black long hair was spread out on her shoulder and back. Oliver's eyebrows locked together as he listened to her playing. Even though he couldn't see her face, still he could tell she was very sad. He felt suffocated, he couldn't bear to see her sad. He stood up and walked toward her intending to make her stop playing, but when he came to her he saw Ava's eyes were closed but tears were flowing down her cheeks, he felt heartbroken.

"Ava." Oliver gently called out.

Ava opened her eyes, but her eyes looked a little lost. People who study music knew that music has a soul. It can't speak, but it could be expressed in the most beautiful language in the world with black and white piano keys. However, very few people could really understand it.

No matter how many times she will play this piece of music she will always be wretched. She and Melody used to play it together and they played it many times. Since Melody left, although Ava played piano once or twice, but she would never play this piece. It always reminded her how they used to play with their bare soul.

This was the first piece of music Daniel's mother, Daisy taught Ava to play. Today, when Ava played it again, all the doors of memory seems like opened again. Ava clearly remembered it was autumn, Daisy was dressed in a smoke gray cheongsam and sat quietly on the windowsill and played this piece, Ava sat there beside her listening to it carefully and noted it down. At that time Ava couldn't understand the emotion behind the piece of music but now Ava understood this tune was about longing for the lost love.
