The wrong questions

Seeing Ava's lost and empty eyes Oliver felt desperate, he gently wiped the tears and took her in his arm then asked softly, "Honey, why are you crying?"

Ava didn't know what happened the moment Oliver asked her the question, she threw herself in Oliver's arms and started to cry again.

Oliver hugged her heartily and tried to soothe her then said in a low voice, "Baby please stop crying. Your mood fluctuation can affect the baby in your stomach."

"I am sorry. I don't know what happened. I was feeling heartbroken when I was playing the tune. I couldn't help but remember Melody. We used to play it together, she always accompanied me to play I feel so selfish that I didn't accompany her." Ava said in between sobs.

"What are you talking about baby, if you two were best friends then I don't think she cares about it. I am sure she wants you to be happy." Oliver said lightly but there was an unknown emotion in his dark deep eyes. If it was possible to accompany her then he probably would be the first person to do it. Why would he suffer for all these years?

"Do you really think so?" Ava looked at Oliver, eyes full of hope as if looking for some kind of assurance.

"Of course. Wouldn't you want her to be happy too, so don't think about it, ok! Her time was up so she left, you don't have to accompany her for that." Oliver didn't even know how difficult it was for him to say all this to Ava. She seems to open the wounds he didn't want to be opened. Even though he put Melody down but there will always be some regret in his heart.

"I guess you are right. Oliver, have you ever lost someone who was very important to you?" Ava suddenly asked.

Oliver's whole body became stiff as he looked at Ava with complicated eyes. Why she was talking about the things he didn't want to hear and asking all the wrong questions? Oliver felt lost, how he was going to answer her? He didn't want to lie to her but he couldn't tell the truth either.

"Even if there was someone that was a long time ago," Oliver said lightly in a very low voice.

"Can you tell me something?" Ava asked biting her lips in a tone full of hesitation.

Oliver smiled faintly and said, "Baby, it's late. We'll talk some other time, OK?"

Ava stared at him. He actually changed the subject! Ava felt a bit upset, she didn't mean to make him sad, she was just curious about the woman Oliver was in love with. But he always keeps avoiding the topics and that made Ava very uncomfortable in her heart.

Ava glanced at the clock and mumbled, "It's only half-past eight. It's not late."

"Ava, you're not alone now. By the time you will be done with your bath and ready to go to bed, it will be half-past nine. You need to sleep early." Oliver said calmly.

Ava let out a sarcastic laugh and said in a slightly angry tone, "Why don't you just say that you don't want to tell me anything about her?"

"Who?" Oliver asked indifferently pretending to be confused. But he suddenly started to feel uncomfortable thinking if Liam told her anything. Why Ava was asking about her all of a sudden?

Ava pursed her lips and stared at Oliver. "Oliver we are married now, I have told you everything about my past, even the things I never shared with anyone then why can't you do the same?"

"So you want to settle that score? You told me and I have to tell you too?" Oliver asked coldly.

Ava felt wronged when Oliver said that. She didn't mean it that way, she was not that narrow-minded person. But everyone said to her that woman was a knot in Oliver's heart, so Ava just wanted to know who she was. What was wrong with that?

"I'm not settling any score with you and I am not asking you to bare your soul in front of me. I just wanted to know who was the woman you loved before me?" Ava said feeling hurt.

"Why do you want to know that all of a sudden?" Oliver's eyes became dark and he asked in a slightly angry tone.

"I... I just want to know." Ava said not knowing what to say. It's true that she didn't have any reason to ask this question, she was just too tired of people telling her about Oliver's past. She wanted to know so that next time anyone mentioned it she could stand up for him.

"There are some things you don't need to know," Oliver said indifferently.

"Oliver, I'm your wife. Are you telling me that I don't even have the right to know, who was your ex-girlfriend?" Ava suddenly got very angry, she said sharply.

"No, but I don't want to answer this question. Why do you have to bring up the past, don't you trust me at all, Ava?" Oliver asked harshly.

The warm atmosphere in the living room suddenly became very rigid, Ava felt very complicated in her heart. She stared at Oliver for a while then finally said in a calm voice, "It has nothing to do with trust Oliver. I wanted to know because I am tired of hearing about your ex from other people."

Hearing Ava Oliver immediately became alert, he was sure Liam said something to Ava. Oliver asked with a stiff expression, "Other people? Who? Did Liam said something to you today?"

"No, he didn't say anything to me." Ava denied it, although Liam did say it before but he didn't say anything today.

"Ava, do you really think I'm stupid? If it was not Liam then who else would dare to say rubbish to you?" Oliver said sharply. He was very angry at that moment.

The relationship between Oliver and Liam was already bad, Ava didn't want to make things worse between them by admitting it. She really hoped one day they will become like brothers, they were family after all. So Ava said changing the subject, "Oliver I'm feeling tired. I'm going to go and take some rest."

"OK, let's go upstairs." Hearing Ava's was tired Oliver's cold face became soft and he immediately stood up and took Ava upstairs.

Before entering the room Ava stopped and looked at Oliver then said, "Oliver let's sleep in separate rooms."

Oliver pursed his lips and looked at her confused. They just got married 2 days ago, how can she ask to sleep in separate rooms?

"Why?"

"With this pregnancy, I can't sleep well, you beside me." Ava was too upset to care if Oliver would be hurt by her words but tonight she didn't want to be in the same room with him.

Oliver softly said, "OK."

Ava breathed a sigh of relief, pushed open the door, and went straight to the bathroom to take a bath.
