The Rescue

Ava was losing her consciousness; she suddenly saw a bright light in the water. Ava stared at the light with dim eyes thinking this must the light from heaven. Suddenly two hands grabbed her and pulled her up. In her mind, Ava believed those were the hands of an angel taking her to heaven. Ava smiled and with that memory, she lost her conscious.

Daniel pulled Ava up and swam back to the riverbank. He was breathing heavily because Ava almost drowned at the bottom of the lake and he had to pulled her up all the way. He quickly unbuttoned Ava's shirt so she could breathe, but she wasn't breathing. Daniel panicked and started to slap Ava. "Ava, wake up, wake up. You can't die like this. Wake up, can you hear me?"

Still, no response, Daniel's face already turned pale. He started giving Ava CPR, tried to rub her hands and feet to warm them up, like a crazy person. Luckily when he jumped into the water some people were near the river and they noticed it so they immediately called the police and an ambulance. When Daniel was trying to rescue Ava, the ambulance and police both arrived. Daniel was relieved he quickly helped the paramedics to put Ava into the ambulance and talked to the police giving them his identity, he also told them he will pay them a visit soon, then rushed into his car and followed the ambulance.

When Daniel reached Ava's house today he checked his tab to ensure her location once again only to realize that she wasn't home. In fact, she was heading toward the summer palace. He cursed himself for not checking it before. Daniel immediately turned the car and drove toward the summer palace but because of the heavy traffic, he was late.

When he reached the palace and looked at Ava's location again he saw she was at Kunming lake. He ran toward the lake holding the tab in his hand but he found no one around the lake. He checked again and saw Ava's phone was still showing her location here. Daniel looked around again and then his eyes fell on the water, his face turned pale at the possibility of Ava falling into the water. Without any more delay, he took off his jacket and shoes and jumped into the water. He swam for a while but didn't find Ava, when he was almost about to give up something caught into his eyes under the water. He swam toward it and realized it was Ava, he quickly pulled her up.

Sitting in the car Daniel couldn't help but wonder what if Ava didn't call him today, what if he didn't reach the lake on time and couldn't rescue her? The possibility of Ava leaving him too was too scary for him. He took out his phone and reluctantly called Oliver.

Oliver was sitting in the office, reading some important documents, but for some reason, he was unable to concentrate. He didn't know why but he was feeling very restless today and he was having a very bad headache. So Oliver decided to take some rest. Oliver lay down on the sofa and just closed his eyes when his phone started to ring. Oliver looked at the caller ID and saw it was Daniel, he didn't want to pick it up but for some unknown reason, he did.

"What do you want?" Oliver asked annoyed.

"Oliver, Ava had an accident we are on our way to 301 hospital. Come quickly." Daniel said with a gloomy face and hung up.

Oliver forgot to react for a few seconds, he just froze in there holding the phone as if he didn't hear what Daniel had just said. When he came back to his senses, he ran out of the door only with his phone in his hand. He got into his car and started the car nervously.

Ava's ambulance and Daniel reached the hospital at the same time. Daniel rushed up to Ava's side but seeing her condition the doctor immediately took her to the emergency room. Daniel restlessly started to pace back and forth outside the OT. His clothes were still wet, his hair was a mess and he was feeling cold but he didn't care, all he cared about was Ava at that moment. He started to pray that she will be alright.

20 minutes later, the emergency room door slowly opened, and a middle-aged female doctor wearing a green surgical suit came out. She came to Daniel with a serious face and handed him a form, "Please sign it."

"I… I'm not her husband." Daniel clenched his fists and said with dim eyes.

"The situation does not look very good. The child has been formed. The mother's amniotic fluid has been ruptured and it may cause serious bleeding. I am afraid we need to do an immediate c-section and probably we can only save one among the mother and the child. Where is her family?" The doctor asked frowning.

"Doctor, I am her husband. I'll sign it. Please save my wife, she is the priority." Oliver's heavy voice came from behind as he quickly took the form from Daniel's hand and signed it.

Daniel looked at Oliver and didn't even bother to hide the hatred he was feeling for him at this moment. But he was a bit surprised to see him so humble. In his whole life, Daniel never saw Oliver talk to anyone in such a courteous manner.

"Don't worry, it's our duty. We will try out best to save both." The doctor took the form and rushed back into the emergency room.

"Oliver, you beast. What did you do to Ava" Daniel couldn't hold his anger anymore. He rushed to Oliver and held his collar then asked through clenched teeth.

Oliver looked at him with hatred in his eyes and pushed him away then said angrily, "I should be the one to ask you that question, why she was with you? Where did you take her?"

Daniel sneered and said, "Me? If she was with me then this would never happen. Do you know that I rescued her from Kunming lake? If I was a little late then she wouldn't be here today, you scum! Is this how you took care of her?"

Oliver frowned, his eyebrows locked together as he asked, "What do you mean? Why she was at Kunming lake?"

"She found out about you and Melody. My best guess, she went to see Melody there. But by the time I reached there the place was empty so I am not sure."

Oliver's face instantly turned pale. He closed his eyes in despair, she found out. How did she find out? All this time he has been trying hard to hide it from her and now she found out. But why she was at the lake? Oliver looked at the distance and suddenly his face become gloomy, he took out his phone and called Uncle Joe.
