Ava and Daniel were sitting in their black Lincoln heading home. Both of them were quiet in the car, lost in their own thoughts. What just happened with Oliver a while back was running in Ava's mind making her mood very complicated. Why can't she forget him after all he had done to her? How could he still affect her like that after all these years? Although she talked to him indifferently but only she knew the turmoil that was going on inside her, especially when she saw the hurt in his deep eyes. She wanted to comfort him and stay in his arm. If Daniel didn't show up at that moment, she didn't know what she would have done. Ava shivered thinking about it, didn't she already move on, got married, and has a family? Then how could she think of that man? Ava felt ashamed at her own thought but she could barely control her heart when it comes to Oliver.
Daniel was also very quiet the whole ride home. Daniel knew the moment they decided to come back that Ava and Oliver will come face to face and Oliver will eventually create trouble for Ava, that's why he didn't want her to be alone with him. He was afraid, once Oliver bring up the past, he will open her old wounds. Daniel saw how she suffered because of those wounds he didn't want her to face all that again. Another reason he didn't want Ava to face Oliver alone, because he was afraid that Oliver will snatch her from him. He knew well, what kind of man Oliver was. He felt so helpless tonight when he couldn't find them. If he was there he would be able to stop Oliver. However, seeing Oliver's stern figure he was relieved that Ava handled it bravely and didn't let him get to her.
The Black Lincoln shuttled through the busy streets of the city center, Ava was looking out through the window when she suddenly noticed a huge shopping mall shape of a piano, and the name of the mall was highlighted in big letters "The Ava's". Ava frowned and turned her head to look again at the mall, it looked huge, and there even seemed to be an amusement park in front of the mall. Ava suddenly remembered this was the land Oliver won from Ethan in Vegas. Ava's eyes widen at the realization that Oliver named the mall after her. She was dumbfounded as she stared outside in a trance.
Daniel was lost in his thought but when he saw Ava looking at something turning her head, he also turned his head and looked. By the time he looked he only got a glimpse of the name of the mall, which was very vibrant and hard to miss. He looked back at Ava and observed her, he held Ava's hand gently and said in a soft voice "Ava, are you ok!" They were wearing a couple's wedding ring which had a very simple design yet was exclusive.
Ava nodded absentmindedly but didn't say anything. Soon they arrived home. Ava bought a house in the bay area because she didn't want their little girl to be overwhelmed by their sudden relocation to china. She wanted to give her a familiar environment. She even decorated the house in the same interior style as their house in California, with Simple and Modern furniture.
As they entered the house, the nanny came quickly to greet them. "Mr. Sherman, madam, you are back." She was folding some baby clothes in the living room.
"Yes, sister Li. Is Nina asleep?" Ava asked as she took off her high heels and put on her house slippers.
"Yes, baby Nina is so obedient. She had her dinner and went to bed without making any trouble. The nanny said with a kind smile.
"Thank you, sister Li. You can go and have some rest. You must be tired." Ava said with a soft smile.
"Yes, Madam. Have a good night."
Ava walked to her daughter's nursery and stood beside her crib, she looked at the little girl who was sleeping quietly like an angel. Ava smiled, stroked her hair gently, and said in a quiet voice, "Good night, sweet girl."
All these years, Ava often thought about the child she had lost. If that child was alive today then he or she would be 3 years. What would that child be like? Would he be like Oliver or like her? She didn't even know if it was a boy or a girl. Although she and Oliver hoped it would be a daughter but she didn't know why she always had a feeling it was a boy in her womb.
Ava was lost in her thoughts again when Daniel came to the nursery and stood behind Ava. He patted Ava's shoulder gently and said with a smile, "Ava, It's late. You had a long night, go freshen up and go to bed."
"Yes, you should too. Good night, Danny." Ava said with a smile turned and went to her bedroom.
Daniel stared at her back and sighed helplessly. He was used to her politeness toward him but still, it stung his heart. He didn't want her to be polite, he wanted her to fall in love with him and be his real wife. Will she ever give her heart to him? Ava left with him and Daniel hoped it was a new beginning for both of them. However Ava never opened her heart to him, in fact, she completely shut herself down. No matter how Daniel tried she would always be cold and emotionless. Daniel felt pain seeing her like this but he thought, once Ava got out of the trauma she will eventually accept him. To his disappointment, till now that day didn't come. Ava's heart has turned completely cold, she was too afraid to fall in love again. Or maybe Oliver was still in her heart somewhere.
Daniel sometimes wondered if it wasn't for this little girl would they ever get married? When Ava started to do the small concerts, she met a young Chinese couple in California. Both husband and wife were involved in the music industry. In a very short time the wife became a very good friend of Ava, she was pregnant at that time and Ava would often spend time with her and accompany her. However, during her childbirth, the wife died from complications and the husband went into depression and jumped off a building. Before he died, he entrusted his daughter to Ava. According to US child service law, as a single woman, Ava was not allowed to adopt the child and that's when Ava and Daniel decided to get married. They got married and adopted the child legally but they were just nominal husband and wife. Ava already made it clear to him that she could never be anything but a friend to him. Still, Daniel didn't give up his hope, he believes someday Ava will change her mind and accept him.
Daniel sighed again and went back to his own room which was next to Ava's bedroom.
