The Regret

Ava never liked parties like this, if it wasn't for her Charity event she wouldn't even attend it. Ava excused herself and walked in the direction of the toilet. She had a few drinks tonight, she was feeling a little lightheaded so she thought splashing some water will make her feel better. However, the moment she stepped out from the side door, she was pulled to the corner by a strong force. Ava's body became stiff as her nose caught the familiar musky smell from the man's body.

Oliver! He held Ava by her waist and pulled her closer to him but Ava pushed him mercilessly and turned to look at him. Her eyes were as cold as ice as she asked indifferently, "Mr. Knight what kind of behavior is this?"

"Ava, baby you are finally back." Oliver looked at Ava with fascination, all the coldness and aloofness were gone leaving only warmth in his deep eyes. The woman became more beautiful and enchanting over the years. The way she was talking to the crowd and giving her speech so confidently Oliver was intrigued by that and the moment he took Ava in his arm again all the heartache he felt for the past three years seemed to vanish in an instant. His heart started to beat wildly in his chest as he looked at Ava with some mixed emotions.

"What are you talking about Mr. Knight?" Ava asked again trying her best to keep a straight expressionless face but her heart was in a panic.

"Baby, I know you haven't forgiven me yet and I don't blame you. I know I have mistreated you, hid things from you in the past and I regret it. I regret it very much, but baby, I really love you and I will do anything to make you believe that. I want to explain everything to you." Oliver said in a pleading tone, it felt like he was choking on his emotions.

Oliver has been playing this scene of facing Ava again in his mind countless times before but he never expected it to turn out like this. Seeing her treat him so coldly, Oliver was feeling lost and helpless. He never really got to explain anything to her. He just hoped when she will return he will be able to explain everything and clear out all the misunderstandings but Ava doesn't seem interested to hear him or give him any chance to explain, he felt hurt by that. Moreover, her cold and indifferent attitude didn't bother him as much as her hooded eyes did. They broke his heart into pieces. And then there was Daniel, Oliver was a possessive man, especially about the people he loved, so seeing Ava and Daniel as husband and wife was stabbing his already wounded heart.

"Oliver stop, please! I don't want to hear anything about the past. I don't need any explanation from you. Loving you is the only thing I regret in my life." Ava said clenching her fist.

She couldn't take it anymore, she was not a cruel person. Even though she was very angry at Oliver, still her heart broke seeing the hurt in Oliver's eyes. She wanted to laugh at herself, even after so many years, after so many things he had done to her she still love him, she was really hopeless. Ava still remembered how happy she was with him before she found out about his past. When she broke into that room her heart shattered into a thousand pieces like a broken mirror. How does anyone expect her to see her face in that broken mirror that's why she left. She thought time will heal her wounds and she will forget him. But looks like her feeling for this man was deeper than she had imagined. Ava could feel that if she stayed here any longer she will lose to Oliver, she had to run away, get far away from this man as soon as possible. Ava took a step back, ready to run.

Oliver realized what she was about to do, he took a step to stop her but a familiar voice made him stop.

"Ava, honey what are you doing here? I was looking for you." Daniel saw Oliver and Ava standing together and arguing but he pretended not to see Oliver, he came to Ava and asked gently with a soft smile.

When Daniel noticed Oliver and Ava both were missing from the party, he already knew Oliver must have found an opportunity to talk to her, he quickly excused himself from the crowd and came looking for her. He didn't want that man anywhere near his wife.

"Danny, you are here, how did you finally manage to get out of there?" Ava's face changed instantly when she saw Daniel. She was talking to him with a beautiful smile on her face and her eyes were twinkling like stars.

Oliver noticed the changes in Ava's face and his face darkened. Does Ava hate him that much? but he wasn't bothered by that thought, instead, he was scared at the thought of Ava falling in love with Daniel. Did he really lose her?

"Well, the party is over so I came looking for you, are you ready to head home? Our little girl must be waiting for us at home." The last part Daniel added intentionally to let Oliver know that Ava has moved on. It was also a clear warning for Oliver to stay away from her.

"Yes, let's go." Ava took Daniel's arm and they left ignoring Oliver completely.

Oliver clenched his fist angrily and stood there with a confused face and a lot of questions in his mind. Are they really married? What little girl they were talking about? Do they have a daughter together? At that thought, Oliver wanted to turn the whole world upside down. He needed to find out the truth, whether they were pretending or they were really married.

Even though it didn't matter whether she was married to Daniel or not because he never filed any divorce with Ava, so legally he was still married to her. If they really got married in the US that will not be valid in China so their marriage doesn't count. Oliver refuses to believe that Ava has forgotten him and fell in love with Daniel. He will find a way to clear the misunderstandings and win her heart again. Oliver stood there in the dark corridor for a while before turning around and leaving the place with big steps.
