Oliver stared at Ava for a while feeling a sharp pain in his heart seeing the hatred in her eyes for him. What has he done? He has hurt her so deeply that she wasn't even willing to give him any chance. He deserved it, he should have come clean to her. If he did, she probably wouldn't leave like that and today he and Orion wouldn't suffer like this. It's probably his retribution.
"Oliver, I'll ask my lawyer to contact you about the divorce, so you don't have to come and see me again. We are done."
"Ava, you are really cruel. You not only run away from me but also got married to Daniel without settling a divorce. It's bigamy, do you know that?"
"Well, sue me then," Ava said with a mocking laugh and her tone was dismissive as if there was nothing left for her to say.
Oliver stood up straight and looked at Ava, he suddenly felt like the woman has become more like him. When she was gone, how many times he wished he could just hate her so the pain in his heart would go away but he couldn't. He wanted to blame her but he also knew it was all his fault so, at the end of the day, he could only blame himself for not loving her enough for her to stay. Oliver suddenly walked to Ava in a flash. He bent over and put his hands on both sides of her chair. He leaned forward closing the distance between them leaving almost no space as he looked her in the eye and then said in a very low voice, "Ava, I know you still love me."
Ava's heart missed a beat hearing Oliver's word. How did he know she still love him? Was it that obvious? Or was he is just assuming it? Oliver moved so fast Ava was already stunned by his sudden action and uncomfortable by the closeness between them. She swallowed hard as raised her eyes and looked at Oliver; her heart was beating so fast that it felt like it will come out of her heart at any moment. They stared at each other for a while, Ava could see the tenderness in his deep eyes, and for a minute there she lost herself in his deep eyes like old times. She even forgot to deny his claims. After a while, however, she got back to her senses and leaned back to create some distance between them.
Ava's eyes turned cold as she said, "Oliver, don't give yourself so much importance. I don't love you, in fact, I stopped loving you a long time ago."
Oliver smiled softly and asked in an affectionate tone, "Then who do you love, baby?" Oliver didn't believe even for a second that Ava didn't love him, he believed she was just angry with him and he was very familiar with her stubborn character so he wholeheartedly believed she will come around one day until then he will keep trying to win her heart again.
"I love my husband, Daniel, of course," Ava said firmly, staring back at him. She will never give him the satisfaction to know that she still loved him. He has hurt her a lot in the past, now it was her turn to hurt him. Although before she came back she honestly hoped Oliver would move on and wouldn't bother her but now that he started to pester her again, she had no other choice but to cling to the only thing that will help her to get away from him, her marriage to Daniel. Oliver will never find out that Daniel and Ava were just nominal husband and wife.
Ava's statement deeply cut Oliver's heart, but he didn't show it, instead, he smiled and asked in a mocking tone, "Is it? Then tell me, honey, when you have sex with him every night, who do you think of? Him or me?" Oliver moved away from Ava and walked to the opposite side again.
Ava stared at him, his musky scent was still lingering around her making her feel a bit dizzy. This very familiar smell helped her sleep at ease all these years, how does she fight it? However she has to, Ava clenched her fist under the table and said, "Oliver, I was with you only for a year but Daniel and me, we knew each other for a long time, even before you. Please try to understand and don't make trouble."
Oliver's eyes turned gloomy, he said, "Ava, come back to me. Let's start over as you said before you left. Let bygones be bygones."
"No! Not going to happen. Oliver your love is full of lies and I can't live my life with lies anymore."
Oliver's eyes turned soft again and he looked at her lovingly and said, "Baby, I know I have hurt you badly and I understand that you are angry at me but never doubt my love for you. I have always been faithful to you and my love for you has always been true."
Ava got confused, she wanted to believe that he was lying again but his eyes were proving otherwise. She could tell by looking at his clear eyes that he wasn't lying, so was Melody lying to her at the hospital? Ava started to feel very uncomfortable but she masked it with indifference as she said coldly, "Oliver, I have already said what I needed to say to you, please leave now. We cannot be together, I don't want to."
Oliver looked at Ava one last time, turned, and left. When Ava said his love was full of lies, he knew she was doing all this because she was angry not because she didn't love him. Oliver's purpose to come to see her today was fruitful so he decided to not push her anymore, he will have more chances in the future to convince her and make her admit her own feelings for him. For now, he was happy knowing she didn't forget him and still loved him that was enough for him.
After Oliver left, Ava sat there feeling suffocated. She lowered her head and let the tears fall. Why can't he just leave her alone? Ava felt frustrated. After a while when she calmed down a little, she grabbed her car keys and ran out of her office. She needed to get out of here and breathe some fresh air to think clearly.
