Supportive wife

Ava's house at the bay.

After Ava came back home she had been in a complicated mood. Most of the evening she was a bit absent-minded thinking about Oliver and Orion. Although she didn't want to think about the heartless man, but she couldn't help but feel sad thinking about Oliver falling sick in an unknown country around unfamiliar people. And what about the little boy? Was he really not Oliver's biological son? Was it really a coincidence that he looked like Oliver? That seems very unlikely but what Erika said about uncle Conner keeping his eyes on him, he would have known if Oliver was really involved with someone. And more importantly, if Orion was really Oliver's son they would have declared it proudly wouldn't they? Uncle Conner was so wise and such a rightful person he wouldn't let a child suffer because of Oliver. The more Ava thought about these, the more she got confused.

After dinner, Ava took shower and was about to go to bed when she realized she left her phone in the living room. So she decided to fetch the phone back when she saw the light of Daniel's study was still on. She sighed and started to feel guilty thinking about how hard Daniel was working for them and what was she doing. She was still thinking about Oliver.

Ava knocked on the door with a heavy heart and frowned when saw Daniel looking at his laptop intensely with furrowed eyebrows. She got inside and asked worriedly, "Danny, why are you still working, it's so late. Is there any problem at work?"

"It's nothing, I need to finish this proposal. Why aren't you in bed yet?" Daniel was so stressed he started to rub his temple and brows.

Ava felt bad for him so she said softly, "Don't work so hard Danny, we can live happily with whatever we have. You will get sick if you keep working like that. You look so stressed, tell me what's bothering you?" She started to help him massage his temple.

Daniel sighed when Ava's soft hands start to massage his temple methodically, he instantly felt relaxed. Daniel knew Ava had no interest in business so he didn't want to bother her with boring business stuff. He said in a soft and affectionate tone, "It's just business stuff, nothing to worry about. You go ahead and get some sleep."

"If there is nothing to worry about then why are you so stressed? You are not lying to me, Danny, Are you?"

Daniel sighed again and thought if he didn't say what was bothering him, Ava might misunderstand him so he said slowly, "it's really nothing for you to get so worried. I found a perfect piece of land for developing a resort. We have already analyzed everything and made our bidding, however, I wanted to meet the owner personally and talk to him about my vision and make the offer but he straightway refused. He didn't want to even give us any chance."

"Why? If it's open bidding then isn't it normal to meet any possible buyer beforehand? Who else is bidding along with you?"

"There are many but our biggest competitor is Knight International. If I can find out what they have offered maybe I could win the bidding."

Hearing that Ava fell silent, she thought for a while and said, "Danny, don't worry. Let's go and see him together tomorrow. I think I might have a way to convince him to give us a chance."

"Ava, what are you thinking?" Daniel looked at Ava and asked worriedly. She didn't know anything about the business world then what is she planning to do?

"Danny, don't worry. Let's go there tomorrow and we will see what happens. Now go to bed, you need to rest." Ava said with a smile, turned, and left.

Daniel was perplexed by Ava's words. He wasn't very confident that Ava could actually help him but decided to see what she was actually planning to do. He was actually happy that Ava was trying to be involved in his trouble, even though it didn't concern her at all. Ava was truly a supportive wife, a husband could count on during any crisis. At that thought, he shut down his laptop and went back to his own room happily.

Ava picked up her phone and went back to her room, as she put her phone on the charger she noticed that she has a missed call. Ava curiously opened it to check who called her and saw it was from Oliver. Ava's heart missed a beat; she wondered why he called suddenly. Ava walked to the balcony with the phone in hand and looked into the darkness. The summer night was warm; Ava sat down on the swing and kept fidgeting with the phone in her hand. She didn't know if she should call him back or not. Ava felt frustrated with her own heart, even after all these years one call from him was enough to make her heart go haywire. Looks like her love for this man was deep into her bones. No matter how much she claimed that she hated him she will always love him. On the other hand, if she decided to give her marriage with Daniel a chance, it will be purely because of her sense of responsibility and gratefulness. She was well aware that she will never be able to love Daniel the way she loved Oliver.
