Ava saw Oliver turning into a different road which did not lead to her home so she assumed Oliver must want to say something. Ava asked, "What do you want from me, Oliver?"
"What makes you think I want something from you?" Oliver stepped on the brake as the traffic light turned red and looked at Ava disdainfully.
Ava was speechless, she didn't want to argue with him so she said calmly, "Then where are you taking me? I want to go home."
Oliver's eyes turned fierce as she mentioned the word home. He asked in a chilling voice, "And which home that would be? The one we made together or the one you and that bastard made together?"
"Oliver please, you cannot disrespect someone like this. Hasn't his family already accepted him?" Ava retorted. She didn't like it a bit when Oliver called Daniel a Bastard! The Sherman family already recognized Daniel then why would he contempt him like that?
"So accepting him changes the fact that he was born from a mistress out of wedlock?" Oliver's voice was also full of anger and disdain. He was already angry because Ava went to see Henry with Daniel, now she was even defending that bastard in front of her. How dare she!!
"Fine, say whatever you want to say. It doesn't matter to me anyway." Ava said dismissively and turned to look outside of the window. She felt a headache talking to this man. There was no point arguing with Oliver about this since he would always say something nasty about Daniel so she decided to keep quiet.
Oliver became even angrier now at her dismissive attitude, he was about to say something more but stopped when he heard Ava's phone ringing. As Ava took out her phone from her bag Oliver got to peek at the name 'Danny' on her screens from the corner of his eyes.
Seating in Oliver's car Ava was not comfortable taking Daniel's call, what if Oliver said something to agitate Daniel? They literally just had an argument about Daniel but if she didn't pick up Daniel would be worried, especially since the weather is so bad. So after hesitating for a while Ava finally picked up.
"Ava, did you get off work? It's raining so heavily outside. Shall I come and pick you up?" Daniel's anxious voice came from the other side of the phone.
"No, Danny, It's ok. Didn't you say you have to attend an event tonight? Don't worry about me, I have asked a friend to drop me home. I'll be home in a while." Ava's eyelashes flattered as she lied to Daniel. She didn't want to lie but she didn't want to make him worry either, the name Oliver was enough to make him anxious.
"Friend, which friend?" Daniel asked confused.
"Well Danny, I gotta go now. I'll talk to you later, ok. Enjoy your dinner, see you at home." Ava glanced at Oliver uncomfortably and hung up the phone before Daniel asked any more questions.
"Good Ava, you have learned to lie so smoothly. Why didn't you tell him that you're with me?" Oliver asked coldly. He wondered, was she always like that, a liar? Did she lie to him too when they were together? And she calls him a liar.
Ava fell silent, she didn't want to tell him it was purely out of concern for Daniel.
"Or is it because you are afraid he will accuse you of cheating? Doesn't he trust you at all?" Oliver asked indifferently.
"Oliver!" Ava shouted out in frustration.
Oliver couldn't help but say this time, "You know Ava you keep accusing me of being a liar, deceiving you but you are no different than me. Three years ago you lied to me, deceived me, and left me behind. Now you are back and living with another man claiming to be his wife. Don't you think you are ridiculous?" Oliver stepped on the brake and parked the car in the underground parking lot of a high-end community. He killed the engine and the whole car turned silent.
Oliver turned to look at Ava, whose face was half hidden in the darkness, and said in an aggrieved tone, "Ava, how did you learn to lie like this?"
Ava looked at Oliver with hatred in her eyes and said, "Didn't I learn from you, Oliver!!"
How could he accuse her of lying? Yes, she has lied to him before but those were harmless lies and she did it only to avoid trouble with him. Oliver would often act unreasonably and become angry with small things so Ava made up small lies to avoid those kinds of situations. She never lied or hid anything to deceive him. On the other hand, Oliver hid his past from her, he kept his ex-girlfriend's memory locked up in the same house she used to call her home and lied to her again and again. How dare he accuse her and call her a liar?
Oliver didn't answer, he knew well where this conversation will end up. He will eventually explain everything to her but now is not the time. She will never believe a word he said at this moment. So Oliver quietly got out of the car and came to the other side to lift Ava up.
