His meaningless love

"Ava!" If words could cut any deeper then those were the words. Daniel felt like he has just lost his soul. "Please Ava, don't do this to me, I really love you. You promised you wouldn't leave me."

"Daniel, please be reasonable! Can't you see, why I couldn't say yes to you right away when you said you wanted us to be real? Can't you tell why I hesitated? I don't love you at least not romantically." Ava softened her tone a little but still said firmly. She didn't let a single tear drop when she broke Daniel's heart, his hope so ruthlessly but Ava was also aware if he didn't let go completely he will never be able to find his happiness. So this heartbreak was necessary.

Oliver on the other hand looked at Ava puzzled when she said that. What does she mean by when he asked them to be real, Are they not real couples? But how is it possible, weren't they living together for the past three years?

Daniel dropped down to the floor, he didn't look at her instead he looked at the floor and mumbled to himself, "Why? What did I do wrong? Why couldn't you fall in love with me? I loved you so much."

"I am sorry Danny but you didn't do anything wrong, I just never could let him go. In fact when I ran away from him, although I wanted to hate him, but deep down I missed him. I was never happy without him, you know that, you have seen me depressed and lost. Danny, I am sorry, it's all my fault for giving you hope. Do you remember Danny when you asked me to marry you I told you I could never be your real wife? I am sorry Danny, call me selfish, even though we were nominal husband and wife, but to taunt Oliver I played my part and didn't even realize I was giving you hope. Danny I didn't want to let you down, I always felt that I owe you too much and that's why I thought I could pay you by giving you what you want but deep down I knew I could never love you like that. Please Danny let me go, forget me, and start over with someone who deserves you." This time Ava couldn't hold back her tears anymore. Every word she said was true but it still hurt her to say those to Daniel.

Oliver's eyes widen when he heard they were just nominal husband and wife he was elated, they were not a real couple. She never betrayed him. Relief washed over him as he looked at Ava with so many emotions in his eyes.

What Ava just said, Daniel already knew it all by heart but he was just too stubborn to accept them, and now that he woke up from his delusion he has lost everything. "What about our little girl? You will just leave her behind too?" Although Daniel knew it was pointless to ask her he still did.

Ava stayed silent, seeing that Oliver knew she was thinking but he was not going to let her have any second thoughts, so Oliver said coldly, "Daniel, what kind of man are you to put such responsibility on Ava? Didn't you adopt Nina then you can raise her as well, don't push your responsibilities on others!"

Daniel stared at Ava silently before he said, "Ava, you are really cruel!"

Oliver was losing his patience now, he said, "Daniel, stop it. You know well you can't give her everything, but I can. You couldn't even get Sarah out of the prison last night so what gives you the right to blame her for leaving?"

Daniel's eyes widen as realization hit him. So the call from the commissioner was because Oliver pulled the strings. Huh, it turns out Ava never really had any faith in him, she actually went to Oliver for help. He suddenly felt like his love for her was meaningless. She already told him that she didn't love him but she also never trusted him. Daniel let out a self-mocking laugh then he looked at Ava and said, "You could have waited, Ava. I would have found a way to get her out today."

"I am sorry Danny, I couldn't let her stay in jail for the night. She has been through a lot, how can I let her suffer more? I did what I had to do. I am sorry. Please Daniel let's go and get a divorce."

Daniel felt tired, he couldn't keep fighting this pointless fight anymore, he could see Ava was determined to divorce him. So he finally gave up, he looked at her and said in a low voice, "Alright, I'll go with you but Nina stays with me."

"Ok." Ava felt relieved that finally, he agreed. Only god knows how difficult it was for her to break his heart so cruelly. God will never forgive her for this sin. But if that brings him to his happiness she will do it another hundred times.

"Let's go. My private plane is already waiting for us at the airport." Oliver took Ava's hand in his and started to walk toward the door. he wanted this to end as soon as possible.

Daniel followed behind looking like a walking dead, he suddenly felt like his life was so meaningless.

Oliver and Ava were in Oliver's car while Daniel drove his own car. Oliver watched as Ava kept crying in the passenger seat. He felt a bit upset to see his own wife crying for another man. Did she care about him that much? When the car stopped at a signal, Oliver stretched out his hand and wiped away the tears, and said in a soft voice, "Alright Ava, now stop crying OK. I am here with you. You have already cried your eyes out, now those are looking like two swollen walnuts."

Ava looked at him speechless and pushed him away angrily, "Oliver Knight, what kind of man say such words to a crying woman?"

Oliver laughed and held her face close to him and said, "But you look cute, although I hate to see your tears but I love those big walnut eyes of yours. "

Ava stared at the handsome man beside her for a few seconds then lowered her eyes. "Oliver, will you promise me something?"

Oliver glanced at Ava and then said, "Sure, what is it?"

"Can you please leave Daniel alone now that I have decided to come back to you? Don't make things difficult for him, please."

Oliver's jaw ticked hearing her, what kind of person she thinks he was? He couldn't help but ask, "Do you care about him that much Ava?"

"No Oliver it's not that, I really own him too much. Please don't misunderstand me."

But her words didn't give him any comfort, He said indifferently, "Didn't I already promise as soon as he divorces you I will leave him and A&D alone?"

Seeing Oliver getting angry Ava realized she had hurt his ego by saying that, and she quickly said, "Oliver I didn't mean it that way."

Oliver didn't say anything else so Ava also stayed quiet and looked out of the window. They reached the airport soon and boarded Oliver's private plane. The 12 hours flight was the most awkward part. Oliver worked on his laptop most of the time while Ava and Daniel sat there quietly not even speaking a single word to each other. When they reach New York, they went to the lawyer's office straightway. Oliver has already contacted his lawyer to sort things out for the divorce so it didn't take much time to finish the formality. They boarded the plane as soon as they were done at the courthouse and returned to china.
