Oliver looked at Ava and said in a tone full of disdain, "Dr. Green how did you become a doctor with such low IQ? You are using all kinds of disinfectant and putting a PPE on me to protect the patients inside, now if still, any patient catches an infection, then you and your hospital are responsible because the medical equipment you use is not effective enough to protect your patients. You cannot just put the blame on someone else for your incompetency. In fact, if this is the case, I should actually sue you for using such poor equipment and medicine that can put the patient's health at risk."
Ava: "..."
Ava puffed one of her cheeks to hold back her tongue as she stared at the man without any word, he not only just insulted her IQ but also turned her words completely against her putting the whole blame on her. Obviously she was no match for him in arguments, she realized no matter what she says he will have an answer ready, so she just turned and went to the small room beside the nurse section to help Oliver put on his PPE and complete the disinfection procedure. After they were done she led Oliver inside the ICU to his uncle's bed.
"Doctor Green, are you ok? You seem distracted, am I keeping you from something important? You can leave if you want." Oliver said looking thoughtful, but in fact, he just wanted to taunt her, he already figured out that she heard their conversation yesterday when Uncle Joe informed him that she refused to put Michael in a regular ward. So just now he said that, to give her the impression that he was going to do something to Michael. It was fun to see her panic. And he was right as soon as Ava heard that her eyes widen and she become more alert.
Ava shook her head and said in a rushed voice, "No, Mr. Knight. I am absolutely free, I can stay here with you."
Oliver couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. Was she crazy? How could she think he would do something to his uncle just like that? She must have a very simple mind if she thinks getting away after killing someone is that easy.
Ava realized Oliver was just teasing her, her face instantly turned red in embarrassment.
Oliver shook his head and turned toward Michael's bed. Looking at the man lying on the bed there was no sympathy in his dark eyes. His smile from earlier completely disappeared and was replaced with a cold and indifferent face.
"Do you think he's going to die?" Oliver suddenly asked distractedly.
Ava was stunned, she blinked before blurting out, "What are you talking about? Isn't he you uncle, how can you curse him like that? He will be fine!"
"Uncle!" Oliver said in a low voice more to himself. It was just one word, but to him, it was a burden heavier than a stone.
Ava turn to look at Oliver and saw the hostility in his dark eyes. She couldn't help but wonder why he hated Michael so much. What has this man done to him for him to want to kill him?
"Why didn't you tell me earlier that he was your uncle?" Ava suddenly asked without thinking. Oliver Knight didn't need to explain anything to her, yet she expected him to.
Oliver didn't answer, instead, he asked, "When will he wake up?"
"He should wake up by tomorrow." Normally after a few hours, the anesthesia wears off and the patient usually wakes up but Michael's surgery was a bit complicated so they put him in a medically induced coma to reduce his pain.
"Then I'll have to trouble you to look after my uncle, Dr. Green." Oliver's said lightly but it didn't come from his heart. This time Michael got saved by this foolish woman, or else he would have finished this man for good.
Ava felt uncomfortable by his polite words, it just didn't feel right. Still, she said politely, "That's no problem, Mr. Knight. As a doctor, it's my duty to look after my patients."
Oliver nodded his head and walked out of the ICU without another word. He didn't come here to see Michael today, he came here to let Ava know that, if he wanted to, there was no way she could stop him from seeing Michael. It was about proving a point, nothing else. Since his mission was accomplished, he didn't bother to linger any longer.
Ava was also relieved that Oliver left but for some reason, she felt very uncomfortable in her heart after seeing the way he was staring at Michael.
