"Mr. He is giving us until tomorrow to arrest him?!" the police chief had a mortified expression.
"Superintendent Hua, it was a crime on the streets. Surely it was captured by cameras. How hard could it be to track the culprit down?" Assistant Jiang was skeptical.
"It's not about tracking him down. The arrest itself will be hard."
Assistant Jiang straightened his back and raise his brow. "Who dares to offend the He family?"
The police chief had wide eyes. He was indeed more afraid to offend the He family. "Uh...it's...it's the mayor's son, Li Pei." He gulped as cold sweat ran down his nape.
"Make the arrest now." Assistant Jiang ordered with a domineering tone.
"But...but the mayor will..."
"The mayor will lose his position and all his assets by tomorrow if you don't put him behind bars today."
"I...okay...I understand. I know the He family can rule this city if they want. My men and I will go now!"
Officers hurried to their cars as Assistant Jiang started the engine of his.
.
Meanwhile, He Zifeng put on the full gear to be able to get inside the intensive care unit, to see Chen Kaori for a few minutes.
He Zifeng sat down on a chair by the bed. His gaze traced all the wires and tubes attached onto and into her. Then his eyes landed on her bandaged head and the bruises on her face. Her dark long hair had been shaved off and others might not be able to recognize her at the moment.
He Zifeng took her uninjured hand into his warm palms. The difference in temperature almost made him shiver.
"Kaori..." his voice was soft and a bit muffled through the face mask. "I know you could hear me...please, hold on..."
He Zifeng held her cold hand, warming it up a bit. "Kaori...I'm sorry...it's all my fault. I get it...why you left. I...I just couldn't accept that you did, and won't come back. But...Kaori...Chen Kaori...please come back to us. We are all waiting for you to wake up. I promise I won't push you away...I will keep you by my side always, just...come back to me please." His voice cracked through the tears which finally poured out and down his cheeks, soaking the mask he was wearing.
He sat for a moment more, until the nurses prompted that visiting time is over.
He Zifeng looked at his image on the mirror after doffing all the stuff he wore to enter the ICU. His eyes looked really tired and a bit puffy, but his expression remained indifferent.
He undid the second button of his shirt. He was sweating through the full gear even though the air conditioning was quite cold in the unit.
He went back into the room on the top floor.
His parents had already went home as they will just wait for the news. They knew he wanted to be alone, so they left the room for him to rest. His father also told him to take some days off from office.
He Ziluo confidently told his son that he could handle the business and that Kaori is the most important at the moment.
At that time, He Zifeng just nodded as his parents bid goodbye. They left him some food in the small fridge which he could reheat in the microwave.
He walked slowly back to the room after his visit to the ICU.
Then he went directly into the bathroom and took another shower to wash off more tears.
