Wind began to blow around Eris and Evodine as they stared at each other. Evodine held out her hand and a mark of a butterfly appeared on the ground.
"The power I am going to give you is only borrowed and I can take it away whenever I feel like you misuse it. The quest I give you is something you have to complete or I will take away the power as well. Do you understand Eris?" There was no turning back now.
The wind was blocking her path and she could barely move. But for once, she wasn't feeling hesitant. This is her calling. This creature called out for her and no one else.
"Yes"
"Then Eris, accept this mark and then we will become companions. We will be each other's master and servant. We both serve and we both rule. State your name and pledge yourself."
"I, Eris Villot will accept the mark and pledge to serve Evodine and rule over her." The mark began to glow in the same golden light as Evodine did when she first transformed. Eris closed her eyes when it was too bright and she felt how a warm feeling was spread around the top of her hand.
She opened her eyes and saw the mark on her hand instead of the ground. Eris looked at the butterfly woman who smiled and the mark was on top of her right chest.
When she looked at Evodine it felt different. It was like there was a bond between them now, that shackled them together. None of them could run away from each other. It was an uncomfortable feeling, like she just lost the freedom that she didn't know she had.
But Evodine seemed comfortable, brushing away leaves from her chest, away from the mark and proudly presented it.
"Our journey starts here doesn't it dear? Or do you want me to call you my master?" Evodine kneeled down in front of Eris together with her wings and showed complete submission. Eris backed away in embarrassment, not liking to be in complete control over someone else when she doesn't have it over herself.
She covered up the mark on her hand as well and noticed how she could feel the mark, like it was engraved in her skin.
"Please stand up… I am not comfortable with… Whatever relationship we might have now. I'm not used to people exactly…" Her arms wrapped around herself and turned away from the other.
It was hard to express with words how she felt, that she regretted it or loved it. Eris didn't know it herself, what exactly she was feeling. Evodine let out a chuckle and moved closer putting a hand on her shoulder.
"You're so cute… I should probably let you know what your quest is no? Find yourself, build relations and become confident. It's time to leave your old life behind." Her eyes widened and quickly pulled herself away from Evodine's touch.
The woman kept smiling then shrugged and turned herself into a butterfly before flying into Eris' mark. She stared at her mark, wondering how Evodine fit in there. Was it like some sort of portal?
Eris bit her lip and sighed while she moved back towards her cottage, thinking about how nice it would be to crawl into bed and drink some hot tea then wash the dirt off her face and change into something more comfortable that wouldn't make her think about Cashimir repeatedly.
But all of that was back fired when her cottage was on fire and the villagers stood in front of it with torches. Almost everyone was there. The kind baker, the honest smith and… Mrs Havenbow. Something inside her broke. This… Was the last drop.
"Get out of here!"
"You freak! Disgusting!"
"You should die!"
Different voices were heard, throwing insults at her. They really wanted her gone.
But the person who stood out to her the most was Mrs Havenbow. Her tired eyes were filled with hunger. Eris never saw her so alive before but it was probably not a good thing this time.
"She almost tainted my son! He kept hanging around her, she probably made him drink some sort of potion to see her differently!" The crowd agreed with her and raised their torches.
"She was raised by that old witch too!" Eris froze, not being prepared to bring her Granny into all of this. She looked at the burning cottage that was too late to save. It wouldn't take long before everything would turn into ashes.
Scanning through the faces, all she saw was disgust and hatred. The girl with the long blonde hair who ripped her white dress, she kept making death threats.
All Eris thought was if they could keep their word. Would they actually do it? Was the only person holding them back Cashimir? What would Theelia think?
The goddess all of them worship, they only care about purity and not about the love and kindness she stands for. They should be punished…
"Unleash" The voice from Evodine echoed in her ears. It was like a lovely bell that rang. As if her body knew, her arms moved upwards and the trees followed her movement. The feeling was so unfamiliar, it felt like she wasn't there.
It all felt like a dream when she watched the villagers scream and try to run away while veins caught them and squeezed them. Eris felt powerful and it was intoxicating. These villagers were begging for her mercy, begging for her to stop. Just like she did.
Eris kept getting more and more creative. Using the branches of the trees, slapping across the crowds as they tried to run back to their village.
But she wouldn't let them safely hide from her anymore. She glanced over to the lake, the place where she always cooled down and played around with Cashimir.
But he left her now with this angry and sinning village. She took a deep breath and lifted her arms and the water followed her. She felt how a smile curled up across her lips as she demanded the lake to fly towards the village and dumped the whole lake down.
The screams got louder then it stopped and everything became silent.
