Why?

It was early morning and the birds were singing outside Helene's room. However her room was dark, no sunlight came from the window because they were covered in thick and dark curtains. She barely got any sleep last night, staying awake and reading spell books as well as studying constellations.

Her eyes caught a glimpse of her most valued book which had a small glow on it's own. She sighed, tearing her eyes away from it and decided it was time to leave the room and take a break. She left her hat in the room and opened the door, the light almost blinded her.

Her eyes slowly adjusted to the contrast and her heart jumped when she saw Mr Havenbow standing in front of her, making a gesture that he was just about to knock. He then smiled and laughed.

"It's like you knew I was coming" Mr Havenbow was a kind but weird man. There was something about him that made Helene feel unsafe. His aura was glowing but it wasn't pure white as he hoped it to be. It was darker, a color she couldn't describe. He moved his hand to the back of his neck and rubbed it nervously.

"I thought you should know but Cashimir fainted yesterday. The village where h- we came from has flooded and they say magic had to do with it. Do you think you can see who it was?"

"I'll see what I can do" Looking into the past wasn't that hard, it was easier to recall the past than it is to see the future or even the present.

He nodded then walked away while the door closed. Helene sighed as she sat down on the floor in front of her crystal ball. She closed her eyes and started focusing on Cashimir.

His aura, his expressions and what she knows about him. When she opened her eyes she saw a girl with a very peculiar appearance. Her ears were similar to fins in Helene's opinion and she had scales on her cheek.

She kept watching but realized it was older memories, they were hugging but the girl kept running away. She smiled one moment and seemed sad soon after.

Helene frowned and tried to concentrate on a flood and the images changed and Cashimir weren't in there anymore, only the girl. She seemed afraid and the villages got more and more violent. Then it jumped forward and the village was flooded.

Helene tried to see how it happened but it was like the memory was blocked and the only thing that showed up was a burning cottage. Magic was most likely involved as well as that girl…

Helene sighed and the crystal stopped glowing. She stood up and felt how her head began to throb. A groan left her lips as she prepared herself to leave her room and be met by the light.

The white walls made it much worse for her. Helene moved towards the dining hall and saw how breakfast was prepared and Mr Havenbow read his little white book, again.

"Ah Helene. Were you able to see anything?" He closed his book and placed it down on the tree table. His eyes were filled with curiosity but Helene shook her head, not feeling comfortable about sharing if Cashimir didn't already talk about her.

"The mage seems strong, they probably blocked the memory." She explained and prepared a meal for herself while Mr Havenbow just sighed and began to play with his long hair.

While he was distracted, she stared at his face, seeing the wrinkles becoming deeper and deeper, no matter how much he tries to hide his ageing.

"We should go to Cashimir and try to talk to him… You see, he got Theelia's sword which always glows. The sword isn't for battle however but a tool for his goal. To spread creativity, purity and love. Bad news is that the glow stopped…" He went off on a rant about how important the sword was for the world and when it shows up, it usually means that some great evil has also appeared.

After breakfast they went to Cashimir's room and he knocked. A groan was heard and a faint come in. He opened the door and stepped in. Helene followed and when she saw his empty eyes her heart dropped, thinking about the girl she saw in the crystal ball.

She bit her lip and kept her distance as Mr Havenbow sat down on the edge of the bed and Cashimir looked away, his hands were planted in his lap neatly.

"Did anyone die?" His voice was slightly shaky, like he was holding back.

"Not what we know of… But son let's not think about that.."

"Why not father? Mother is there. What if something happened to her? Wouldn't you be worried? What if-" His voice cracked and his lip quivered. He couldn't keep going and only stammered letters. Helene's heart stinged from his reaction and looked away, wanting to leave the room.

"Everything happens for a reason and sometimes it's for the better." Mr Havenbow's voice was emotionless, like he stated a fact. Cashimir stared at him with teary eyes which were filled with anger. Helene sneaked out and closed the door behind her as she heard Cashimir yelling while Mr Havenbow was calm.

Helene bit her lip and sighed while she began to play with the decorations on her dress. The familiar touch against her fingers made her calm down. The door opened with Mr Havenbow stepping out and seemed exhausted.

"You and Cashimir will travel to Frosa tomorrow morning. I suggest you start packing as soon as possible." He didn't leave room for objection and left a cold lingering feeling. That's when Helene could pinpoint the color of his aura. Ice blue with a tint of black.

She glanced at the door and walked closer, hestiting if she should knock and try to talk to him, but she stopped, thinking that after yesterday's encounter, he doesn't really have a good impression of her. She let her hand drop down and heard his voice through the door, like he was praying.

"Please… Please be alive Eris…" Helene sighed and slowly walked away from the door, moving to her room and began to pack her belongings. She will have plenty of time to talk to him during their journey…
