*Edward's pov*
I was at the airport waiting for Caleb to pick me up. I was scrolling down through social media when a car was honking in front of me.
I looked up from my phone and saw Caleb in the car
"Get your ass in here! I'm not your driver, mate!"
I rolled my eyes and grabbed my luggage to put inside the car. I sat on the front seat and Caleb drove away from the airport to my house.
"How's New York?" asked Caleb
"Boring." I shrugged
Caleb raised his eyebrow at me and said "Just that? You've been there for almost 3 weeks, Ed. No new girl or anything??"
"Cal, this is work. Not a holiday, bro."
"I'm just saying that you have to find someone sooner, bro. You gotta chill sometimes."
"Girls aren't my priority, for now, okay?"
"Yeah yeah, tell me. Why are you here and your father is still in New York?"
"Because I'm still in school? And he's going to be there for a few months working on the new project"
Caleb nodded. I scrolled down through social media again and I saw Shasha's post on Instagram. A picture of her, Caleb and… Shayna?
I looked at Caleb and said, "So, you and Shasha were hanging out with Shayna?"
Caleb hummed 'yes'.
"How is she now?" I asked Caleb
"She seems okay now. She's a lot different now, Ed. I saw her pacing out of the conversation sometimes."
"She went into an accident and she just lost her boyfriend, Cal. What do you expect? Her to be happy?"
I said, sarcastically
"I know. I'm just worried"
I looked at the picture again. 'She does seem different.' I looked at Shayna's Instagram profile, she looks different in the other picture. Bright, happy and more alive I supposed.
Caleb glanced at my phone and smirked
"What're you looking at, Ed?"
As much as how much I want to roll my eyes and give Caleb a sarcastic reply, but I keep looking at her picture and said " Nothing. Is she back to school now?"
"No, she's in online school now. Three weeks, Ed. Things starting to change since you left."
'That much, huh?'
When we both arrived at my house, I grabbed my luggage and went into the house. I saw my mother and my aunt are preparing for dinner meanwhile Katie, Caleb's little sister and my uncle are watching a movie.
"Hey, did anyone miss me?" I said
Katie turned into my direction and said "ED!! YOU'RE BACK!", running, smiling and giving me a big hug.
"Katie cat, you should let go of me now. Otherwise, you won't get your surprise" I said.
She broke our hug and looked at me excitingly said "Can I have it now?! Please?"
I smiled and grabbed her surprised gift from my bag. She took it happily, my uncle stands behind her and said: "What do you say when you got a gift, Katie?"
"Thank you, Ed. I will open this at home. Omg, I can't wait! Can we go home now, please??"
she asked her father, giving a puppy cute face.
We all just laughed. I put my luggage into my room and went for a change before went back downstairs. I went beside my mother at the kitchen counter.
"Need extra hands, mum?" I asked.
"I'm almost done, sweetheart. How's New York?" she said with a warm smile.
"You know, work is work. A new project is coming up. I don't want to talk about work, please?"
"I understand. How's your father? Did he say when he's coming home?"
I sighed "Probably before my graduation. Who cares? He's always busy anyway."
My mother turned into my direction and put her hand on my shoulder.
"I know, he's always busy. But, he's still your father, Edward. He loves you no matter what."
I forced a smile and hugged my mother "I don't know how he is your husband, mum?"
My mother laughed and said "That's a story for another time"
*The Next Day*
I woke up at 8 am. It was Sunday. I decided to go for a jog, on weekend I always went for a jog or a run. It keeps me calm for the agony of life by showing me how beautiful the world is that I haven't yet discovered.
I grabbed my gear, my smartwatch and I left a note just incased for my mother. After almost an hour, jogging and running. I came across a park, it was peaceful. I was enjoying the silence.
Then, I saw a girl sitting on the ground, letting her hands-free, her eyes were closed as if she was enjoying the breeze. I realized that girl was her.
I slowly walked to her direction.
"Shayna?"
She opened her eyes, shockingly "Oh hey, Edward. What're you doing here?"
"I sometimes jogging around here. What about you? Sorry, may I sit next to you?" I gestured to her.
"Yes of course, sure." she smiled at me.
I sat next to her, "You didn't answer me."
She turned her head at me and hummed 'What do you mean?'
"I asked, What're you doing here? Alone to be exact." I asked
She weakly smiled "Luke always encourage me to jog for years then. I decided why not give it a try, you know?"
I nodded "So, do you like it?"
She closed her eyes again while saying "I do. It's peaceful, Luke was right."
I looked at her features 'You're so beautiful'.
She opened her eyes and asked "I haven't seen you for a while now. Caleb said you were in New York?"
"Yeah, I was. Family business going on so I have to keep the legacy, I guess."
"Understood, but what about Caleb?"
"Hmm… what about him?"
"Is he not continuing the 'legacy'?"
I chuckled at the thought "No, with him. It would be a huge disaster. This business is on my father side, not my mother"
She nodded and smiled at me. It was genuine but it was different. I was struggling at my words, doubting if I should ask her. After a few minutes, I asked her
"How are you? I know you might this question a lot. But, how are you, Shayna?" I looked at her, needing for the truth.
She looked at me "It's hard. But, I'm trying, Edward. Too hard, actually" she exhaled deeply.
I couldn't help it. So, I hugged her. She was tense at first, but she started to relax in my arms.
"I'm here for you if you need anything"
