Chapter Vier (4)

She had heard enough stories like Jayden's to know the sweet boy wasn't lying. She absolutely hated this part of her job. Talking to ignorant parents, of good boys like Jayden, who hated them for no real reason. She knew the lawyer was a good one, on more than one occasion he let little clues slip if he was afraid for the safety of his client's children. She understood, that was probably the finest line any lawyer could walk. After all, he was legally obligated to work in their interests. On more than one occasion he let it slip that his clients Drank like fish, always in person, and those were the only times he asked to speak to her in person. So when he came to her in person on a Saturday, she knew it was serious, knew he was honest, and knew he needed a favor.

She also knew, the best thing, was to try and placate this ass and let him think what he needed to do, was for him to voluntarily give up his child. She took one last deep breath and rang the bell. "Mr. Tompson." She smiled.

"What?" He grunted, smelling like whiskey.

"I wanted to talk to you about your son." She smiled, with all the calmness she could muster.

"I don't have a son, you must be thinking about someone else." He slurred, and she got enough big enough woft, to decide it was cheap whiskey.

"Well, legally you do, and that can be a problem for you..." She gritted her teeth, the drunk fool realized she was right. "But I can take that problem off your hands."

"How?"

"I have a voluntary custody waver, If you sign it, I can have the judge review it Monday...."

"I won't have to go to court, or see it?" He sneered, looking at the house across the street.

"It?" She asked, then instantly knew what he meant...

"The thing that pretended to be my son."

"No, I don't think you'll need to worry, about that." She nodded

"Good, give me the paper, and let me sign." He grunted. She opened her folder and handed it to him, and a pen. She felt good about keeping Jayden out of this place, many kids have come back to places that have seemed safe, to a parent who has seemed to change, only to be taken permanently later. A failure in a system, she vowed not to let happen to Jayden, and the idiot gave her everything she needed, to get this one in and out of the system.

She took the folder back, made sure it was correct, took her pen, and left. She rang the bell of the house, and Tom answered, she nodded back to the dining room. "Boys." Tom said looking at the boys. "We need to talk alone."

She followed him back into the kitchen, and the three sat. "Well, he signed it." She sighed. The two other frowned. "He didn't even want to come to court, and he's piss drunk, I actually don't think it'd be safe for him to go back" She paused. "Even if he were to sober up, and get counseling, I have seen it too many times just not work. So I can have it in front of judge Roberts, Monday, can you take his call around 1 pm?"

Tom nodded. "Yea, I have a meeting, but I can push that back." He said taking out his phone and tapping out a quick email. "Will he need to talk to Jayden?"

"And your, wife, and Benny!" She nodded. "They make a cute couple, and she will worry, about a breakup." She frowned.

"She is practical." Tom nodded.

"Can we worry about letting him feel normal?" Tammy objected.

"She is right too, He can have his own room, they both listen when you sit them down, and talk to them straight, so if it does blow up, we can talk sense into them." Tom nodded.

"But they both just needed to realize that they were gay, and just realize they loved each other." Tammy objected, fearing in vain.

"How long?" She asked.

"A year or two." Tammy said with surprise hope.

"Well, there's that." She sighed. "How long have they been friends?"

"Day Zero." Tom said. "They even came home the same day. Hell I drove us all home." He sighed.

"The only time they ever spend apart is when Benny went to his grandparents when he was a little boy." Tammy pointed out.

"Even when they fight?" She asked.

"They fight from time to time." Tom said. "But never stay mad, and normally work out most of their problems, most married couples could learn a thing or two from them."

"Hell we have!" Tammy chuckled

"I should be leaving, But expect that call." She got up and left.

Tom and Tammy knocked in the doorway to Jaydens. "Boys." Tom smiled. "It's too early to say for sure, but Monday, we are going to talk to a Judge, around One, and if she agrees with us, Jayden, you'll be able to stay with us."

"Do you think she will agree?" Jaden gulped.

Tom smiled, and nodded, slowly. "Again, it is not for sure until the pens on the paper."

"Then I'd be your son?" I asked.

Tom laughed. "If we adopted you, which ee would, but that would make Benny your brother...." I looked and Benny and frowned, he half an embarrassing half smirked at me. "Well most of us don't want that." He chuckled and shook his head. "So we just will be your guardians, legalise for responsible adults."

"Yea, your responsible alright." Tammy chuckled. Tom raised his eyebrow at her. "I didn't say I was either. "
