Chapter two

I wake to someone pounding on my door. I jump up and change fast. I fling the door open hopping out on one foot trying to get my shoe on. I grab my back and shut the door then lock it.

"sorry, Bankay I know I'm late,"

"Yep, as always."

"Hey! I'm not always late!" I yell he laughs.

"I know, I know. come on Kumi and Hashime are waiting outside." We go out and Hashime gives me trash about being late. I ignore him and roll my eyes. I look over at Kumi who is eating leftover yakitori.

We walk to school and say goodbye. I walk to my first class, science. I'm not a fan of science but it beats gym. I always sit in the back corner so I can text Hashime memes. I sit down and start texting. I think the teacher notices because he yells at me.

I roll my eyes and the bell rings. I walk to my next class, art. I like art, but it's too easy. that's why I took it. I sit in the front drawing. the teacher lets us do whatever we want. So I blast my music in my headphones and text Hashime again.

After school, we meet under the old cherry blossom tree.

"well since we never got to go to that fun place can we now," Hashime asks. I look at Bankay he looks at me and I nod.

"WooHoo!" Hashime yells we walk to an alleyway.

"Really Hashime, this is what you dragged us here for," I say glaring at him.

"Chill Ming I'm just getting started!" He pushes a huge trash bin aside and there is a passageway.

"Are you nuts! I'm not going in there!" Kumi yells

"And why not." Hashime asks

"It will ruin my pink dress!" She yells all of us but her roll our eyes. I push her down into the passageway. We go in and look around it's dark and dusty. Bankay flips on his phone flashlight. I cough and wipe the cobwebs off of my face. Kumi sqeelz and goes behind me.

"Spider!" she screams Bankay walks and smashes it.

"there, princess." we all laugh Hashime walks over to something glowing. it's a metal box.

"The curse of the gems" he reads the box glows and the room shacks.

"HASHIME! What did you do!" I yell Bankay holds onto me and Kumi. It explodes. I look around my eyes blurry we're all back outside and it's on fire. I pass out.

I gasp and wake up. I open my eyes pain fill my body I grunt. I look around and realize I'm in the hospital. I ope my eyes fully now and see Bankay laying in one of the beds reading.

"B-....Bankay" I say softly he gets up and rushes to me.

"Hey, hey ming. don't move you'll just hurt more."

"What happened?" I ask softly

"well...Hashime set off whatever was that box and it exploded. now we got these." Bankay holds up his hand and he has a yellow gem in the middle of his hand. My eyes go wide and I look down at my stomach where there is a purple gem.

I look over at Kumi who has a pink gem on her hand. then I turn and look at Hashime who is awake he has a light green gem on his shoulder.

"What happened to us!" I yell sitting up fast. I regret that as soon as I do.

"Calm down Ming. Everything's fine. we're alive that's all that matters." Bankay says in his soft voice that makes me calm down. I sigh softly.

"Okay, yeah your right. But what is this" I poak the gem on my stomach where my belly button should be.

"well the doctors said it's some sort of a magical gem."

"magical, MAGICAL!" I scream he puts his hand over my mouth and sits next to me.

"Look ming I know it's a lot but you need to calm down. We all got one not just you." He wraps his arm around me. I turn and look at Hashime.

"what do you have to say for yourself, mister."

"Uh, you sound like my mom?" He says looking at me confused. I glare at him and lay my head on Bankay.

"sorry Bankay..I just need to...relax a second"

"take all the time you need. no worries." I close my eyes and think of the fire and explosion. I sigh softly and open my eyes again.

"so what exactly do these things do."
