Turning Point

MoQiu flashed to his house with the child in his arms. The little boy started breathing, but whether he will wake is to be seen. He had to stop his father from going up the hill, for he is sure that young man will kill his father the moment his eyes lays on him. Thus, MoQiu left the little boy in the bed, flashed back to the mountain, into a spot he remembered.

Damn it..

He should have left that mark on his father.

MoQiu just removed the mark on his father to free the slot just after his father injured his legs. He should have known a simple fracture will not keep his old man down.

He pushed down the growing panic, did a perimeter check methodically.

His father and army both taught this to him. MoQiu felt how ridiculous it is to teach how to look from one side to another, but he is starting to realize the wisdom of those words now, As he checked every rock outline thoroughly for his father's position.

He moved up twenty meters.

Perimeter check again..

Move up..

Perimeter check..

On the fifth check, he discovered his father, and from the end of eyes, he could see the demon he had seen on the cliff return too.

He flashed to his father and pulled him down, whispering urgently to hide himself.

His father struggled for only a moment before he picked up MoQiu and hid them both behind a rock outline.

The young man stopped.

His father's breathing is still, but MoQiu had trouble controlling his breathing.

He had enough excitement to last a lifetime.

He is originally a white collar worker working the most boring and stable job of tax accountant.

He did not like shooting games even when he was an angsty teenager.

His only merit is that he is neither excitable, nor intimidated. Which made him best suited for a politician, not a field officer.

MoQiu swears internally, starting to count numbers in reverse from hundred.

In no time, his breathing calmed.

The young man passed by them as if they didn't exist.

They waited for some time.

Then the smoke and fog vanished as if they were never there.

"The Black dragon temple tamed the inferno." MoQiu's father said.

"What?!" MoQiu asked, surprised, for he has never known that petroleum fire can be put down this easily.

"Then can we enter the dark cave?" He asked his father.

His father nodded his head decisively.

"MoQiu! Where are you going? " his father stopped him before he could flash away.

"To the dark cave, Father. We decided to look for Jiushu, did we not?" He answered, suppressing the ominous feeling in his mind.

"This… A'Qiu.. That child's fate… it's her own now." his father held on to his hand tighter.

"Wha..!? Father! " This is different from what we discussed is on the tip of his tongue.

His father answered carefully.

"There are greater forces at work here than you and I could confront. Jiushu...That child has perished, but we are alive. That young man just now, he has seen you, didn't he?" his father asked forcefully.

"He … He saw me falling down the cliff. He did not see me just now." MoQiu answered after thinking a bit.

"A'Qiu.. That youngman … He is a prince. The movement to acquire powers is far more dirty, difficult and dangerous than you think. We need to go before the guards come back looking for us. It will be a disaster if we are caught." His father insisted, without explaining heads or tails of the problem.

Mo Qiu took a breath.

"Father, there is a lot here you are not telling me, correct?" he asked, as calmly as he can.

His father shifted guiltily in front of him. MoQiu continued.

"Are we in mortal danger?" MoQiu asked.

"Yes." His father answered back.

"Promise me you will explain to me in clear terms of how, what and why of this danger once we are safe. I am choosing to abandon a friend to a possible death. Father, whatever your reasons may be, they need to be enough to justify this. Are you sure we have to run?" MoQiu asked, his voice cold as ice.

Despite the monotone and gentle lilt, his voice conveyed the heaviness of the decision.

His father stood in front of him, rooted to his spot, as if stuck by a lightning.

MoQiu's visage is full of cold determination.

The time and wind passed between them, as father and son stared at each other's eyes.

"Yes. We must run." His father answered MoQiu, his voice full of pain.

MoQiu clenched his fist, tried in vain to unclench it for some time. It is only after his father placed his hand on his fist comfortingly he was able to unclench his fist.

Rescuing Ally, Mission Failed.

The words flashed in front of him, mocking, mocking and mocking him again.

MoQiu, as an avid reader of web novels, has always considered himself to be a protagonist. When he got his OP power, he considered himself even more so.

However, he failed his first mission. He laughed at himself in irony. Transmigration did not change one's personality. He is the same overly cautious selfish nerd as he was. An eight pack and eagle eyes do not change that fact. However, he still believed his father. He will not see any harm come to his parents. Since he is not the protagonist of this story any more, it must be Jiushu. He could only hope the gods of the realm helped her and she could get out of this predicament.

At another place, Jiushu was sleeping like a pig.

She didn't notice the fire stopped in the window. She is not technically hungry or thirsty, but sleep is the only thing she could do in this realm, so she decided to catch up on it as much as possible. Outside the window, the scene changed a little.

The knights were entering it with a single Taoist in lead. He held a clay torch, which looked very much like a clay margarita cup.

They moved forward carefully, looking at each nook and crenel.

The cave curled into itself like a snail's shell, they were walking along the inner edge.

In some places, he could see red hot metal melt, as if there was a metal implement there, but melted because of the fire. The Taoist inserted an iron pike into each of those hot melts. Ropes are looped into each of those hot iron pikes. They did not see any skeletons till now, it seems they won't be able to see any in the future either.

The walls faded from yellow sandstone to a black stone, which left traces of black dust on their clothes. If it were a modern period, someone would have told them the black rock is called coal and is one of the very important materials for a kingdom. However, it wouldn't have mattered much to this set of people any which way. After all, they are here only to retrieve a certain girl, dead or alive.

However, it is not all this clatter that woke Jiushu. It is the flashing red letters in front of her.

RESCUE ABORTED.
