I've been having dreams.
Thump.
Where eyes of insanity decorate the faces of beasts.
Thump.
Where the scent of blood lingers like a mist.
Thump. Thump.
When I catch their eyes I feel the madness reaching for me in the shape of a wolves maw. Decayed flesh of their last victim still caught in their teeth. I could almost feel the scrap of their teeth against my neck. My warm blood trickling down my side as my heart…
Thump.
…pounds to Cala's march. But, these were not the dreams that woke me in the middle of the night with a scream caught in my throat. No. It was the dream of hundreds of lifeless faces all so different and yet so much the same. And the goddess decorated in silver light standing amongst the tree's. It always starts with her back facing me as wolves prance around her like love sick puppies. They don't feel the darkness as I do. The brush of cold air against my skin as arrow flies by. It seems to slow down in my eyes but, I'm never fast enough to grab it. They don't hear the maniacal laughter the sprouts the same moment the arrow draws blood.
This is when she turns around. Wearing the face of my mate as she dies. A crimson trickle slips past her lips as she speaks.
"Find Grim… Rulen." She manages to say before she collapses and I awake.
Thump.
My heart pounds in my chest. The moonlight shines in through my window. Cold sweat drenches my covers and makes my brown hair stick to the side of my face. These dreams have just started and something told me that they weren't just dreams or nightmares even. Some felt like memories I've long forgotten and others felt like they were happening now. A part of me felt like I was responsible. That I should be protecting these wolves. But, that was insane. I was just a makeshift Alpha. Barely even that.
I brushed my hair out of my face as I stood. The cold floor against my feet made me feel more awake. I wasn't going back to sleep tonight. This wouldn't even be the first time this week. Ever since I saw her and the other half of my soul awoke I've been miserable. I've been longing for her. But, there was no way I was bringing a vampire into a den of wolves suffering from Rognox, the misalignment of a werewolves two halves. She would be the feed that unleashes the insanity amongst my pack. They would tear into her and currently I have no way to stop that from happening. The insanity that I see in my pack mates eyes, is the insanity that I sometimes believes crawls under my skin.
I sighed. I should take a dip in Bellview Lake rinse of the sweat cool off my body. As I was about to open the door of my cabin. There was a knock on my door. On instinct I sniffed at the air. Ethan? Why was here this late at night?
I opened the door to find him twitching on my door step. His claws were digging into the side of his head making his blonde hair look wild. His senses were closed off as he stood at my door step lost in his head. He didn't seem to notice my presence just yet. Was the attacks getting worse?
"Ethan."I said softly as to not spook him. His sandy eyes flashed open to glance into my own. Gracing me with a lost stare. His shoulders seemed to slump at the sound of my voice. I hoped was helping even if it was only a little bit. It would at least give him more time. More of a fighting chance. Maybe I could find another Alpha to send those suffering the least to.
"Ah. Yes Alpha." Said Ethan. "Did you need something?"
It sounded like he was uncertain.
"Ethan you're on my doorstep."
He blinked once, twice, three times, then shook his head.
"Are you okay?" I asked taking a step towards him.
"I-I don't know" said Ethan taking a step back.
I didn't know why he was here and it appeared that neither did he. Ethan's blond hair was wild, sticking up in every odd direction. His skin was paler than last week. It felt like his eyes were losing their shine. Alright change of plans.
"Why don't you come in?"
He took another step back "I-I don't know" said Ethan repeating his last words.
"Ethan. You're my friend come here." I said. Maybe we can calm each others nerves.
His eyes drifted to his feet. I could tell he was trying to decide what to do. But, I didn't want to give him a choice. I grabbed his arm startling him out of his thoughts.
"Would you like some water?" I asked.
