I stood rigidly ignoring my surroundings in favor of watching the mouth on the wolf's face before me twitch between a snarl and mask of calm. It was a dominance battle between his two sides. A single tear in the corner of the man's light brown eyes told me what side was losing. It was said that when one of our kind falls it always starts within. In the layer between our spirit halves —one of man and one of wolf— they become misaligned and they start to corrode each other slowly twisting who you are until you resemble that of a dog with rabis. Only a healthy Alpha or one just as capable could force a calm between the two sides so that one can be of soundsoul. My eyes still on the man before spotted the snarl before it even slipped out. This is part of my job now.
"Ethan Grey, contr—"
A low threating rumble escaped from Ethan as he fought against the disease corroding his mind the onsets of Rougnox, often found in lone wolves, those abused, and unfortunately packs with lack of a proper hierarchy. Ethan's dark brown hair danced in the air as he violently shook his head while smacking the top of his head, as if the blow to the head could force the beast out.
Pained eyes glanced at me as a whine escaped his lips "I'm tr—"
Snap
Warm drool dripped uncontrollably onto my feet as the beast forced the changed. Ethan whimpered in pain as his hands grasped at his hair. His lower jaw hung loosely open as one by one fangs began to pop out of his mouth forcing it to expand with each new addition. With Ethan fighting against the beastly shift the process was slow and agonizing. I could see it in Ethan's eyes squeezed shut and the tremble that vibrated to the ends of his fingers that the battle was lost. Ethan could no longer keep fighting against the shift.
Krick-kik-kurik
The shift was violent, quick, and left only the ferocious side of Ethan. A snarling beast of brown dark fur and deep brown eyes tinted red. My nails dug into the palm of my hands causing a stinging pain. Ethan had lost again to the Rognox which meant I wasn't an Alpha yet. I loosened my hands as I thought about. I was raised to replace the Omega of course he didn't see me as the Alpha. The beastly side of Ethan lunged into the ongoing fight I was trying to pretend wasn't happening again. Every time they showed up to feed and one of the wolves lounging about on our territory spotted them it was utter chaos. Only a family get together of Nephilim with a surprise visit from their father would hold a candle to this mess. A pale man flew past me and slammed into a tree only meters away from me sending splinters flying in the air drawing my attention to him. Creeping dark veins were reaching up from his neck to his cheeks, splotches of flaky skin sepereating from muscle, and sunken eyes surrounded by a dark ring. This vampire was starving and he wasn't the only one through their visit he noticed other with the symptoms some worse than others. This was bringing disgrace to Death and the Moon and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Even Ethan had joined the aimless violence of the starved versus the mad.
The wolves were finding joy in the sounds of crunching, cracking, and ripping of the vampires bones. To me the sounds were grinding on my nerves. I've had an never ending headache ever since I took over this pack. If it could even be called taking over.
This pack didn't accept him they believed he was a 'Linley' a betrayer. And maybe he was. He did turn his father in to COMPASS broken the loyalty of wolves. It was a great sin for a werewolf's when their very nature was loyalty. The pack will not accept a Linley as the Alpha. They will not hear his reasons. That it was loyalty to the pack that inspired his actions. After all how could they notice the signs when they were suffering from the very same.
If this didn't stop soon he would either join the madness or the dead.
Fuck!
I was only out here to try and protect my pack. While we had the right to protect our boundaries according to COMPASS laws. This was just wrong. Cala and Vein would be so ashamed. The vampires were only feeding on the nearby deer. And were only protecting themselves when attacked. We need to leave them be. My pack was to close to becoming a rouges. They are too wild too territorial. They can't even ignore a fox thats crossed our boundary. It's all. Kill first, think about it never. The problem isn't just the werewolves it's the vampires that keep returning. They were starving they needed food and while deer wouldn't supply enough nutrition for them it was probably better than nothing. They just have to survive the insane werewolves. They had to know we were suffering from Rougnox.
I released my breath when they started to retreat. It was now my turn to try to keep them from chasing. I howled with as much authority I could muster. Ordering my wolves to back down. While I couldn't bring them to a complete stop I could confuse and distract them with the order. Giving the vampires enough time to retreat. It was at the end of my howl that I caught a strange scent in the air. The hair on the back of my neck stood up like I just got zapped. What is that! I try to track the scent with my eyes when I finally spot the source.
There next to what he presumed to be the leader was a small female figure staring at him. It was a new face that he never saw before. A face he would never forget for the rest of his life. Sweet maple fragrance interlaced with spicy cinnamon surrounded her. My whole world slowed down as I caught her eyes. Tha… that's my… My heart was tingling no everything was tingling at the sight of her. That's my mate! The one I promised mother and myself that I would protect. The only one I would ever want. The Luna of my wolf pack that absolutely can't stand vampires.
My palms were warm my breath was quick when I decided I had to let her go. In order to protect her she can't be on pack territory. Or they will kill her and destroy me in the same move. I had to let the other vampire lead her away from me.
"Alpha" said Ethan interrupting my thoughts.
"Is that who I think it is?"
With out a look to spare I headed home.
"Ethan I need a plan, my mate, a Beta, and an Omega."
