Chapter 20: Departure
The moment i opened my eyes this morning I was filled with so much joy. I have been waiting for this day all my life, to go start an adventure all by myself and hopefully create my own little world.
I woke up to the amazing smell of my mother's amazing cooking and my dad playing his usual jazz music. Everything felt like I was dreaming, my bags were neatly packed and so was everything I was taking along with me. I greeted my mom with a big smile and she returned it by giving me hot black coffee, my favourite.
My dad joined us in the kitchen, he helped my mom dish out our food and I got the breakfast table ready. We all ate our food and had funny conversations in the middle of our breakfast. This is all I have ever wanted my family to be and I am so happy this is the last memory I have with them before I start a new chapter of my life.
"Haya I have something to give you and I wanted to do it in front of your mother so that things are not awkward between us. We know that you are becoming a grown young lady and you are going to start experiencing a lot of things in your life but we want you to be safe so here are some condoms to use just in case anything sexual happens." my dad put a box full of durex condoms on the breakfast table.
"Dad!..mom?!" I looked at both my parents who looked at each other then started laughing out loud.
I took the box of condoms and immediately left the breakfast table. I decided to video call Ruby to tell her about what my parents just did.
"Hey bess! did I wake you up?" I asked my bestfriend who was lying down on her bed with a tired face.
"Yes you did but do not worry it is not a big deal, my classes are starting soon anyway so you did well bestfriend." she replied smiling at me.
"So bess I have tea for you!" I said feeling shy about what I am about to share with her.
"What?" she immediately sat up straight on her bed.
"My dad just gave me a box of durex condoms!" I said waving the box of durex condoms for my bestfriend to see.
"What?!" she replied with a face full of disbelief.
"Yes I mean I have not had sex with anyone besides Jahin and it only happened twice before he disappeared so I do not think I am ever going to have it with any other guy anytime soon." I replied.
"Lucky you! I am still a virgin and the guys here are all so hot I already have a list of who I am going to fuck." my bestfriend replied.
"You have always been dirty minded but you are really scared to actually go through such experiences. I honestly hope you fall in love there and I get to babysit beautiful french babies." I replied smiling at my bestfriend.
"Haha we will see, I will keep you updated but so far there is no one here I am interested in." she replied.
"It is still early days Ruby, do not count your eggs before they hatch." I said.
"Shoot! I have a class in 40 minutes, bye bestfriend. I love you!" she said then hung up on me.
"What time are you arriving in Cape Town?" I suddenly got a text from Zaied on my real instagram account.
"My flight is taking off at 5pm so I will be there around 6pm, why?" I replied.
"You will find me waiting for you at the airport, give me your WhatsApp numbers so that I am able to communicate with you properly." he replied and I immediately got butterflies.
What? he is planning to pick me up from the airport? I am so shy I mean I do not even know what I am going to say to him.
"I have already booked a cab to take me to Campus so thank you but no thanks." I replied.
"I said what I said, send me your WhatsApp numbers now!" he replied.
I gave him my WhatsApp numbers and he immediately sent me a text.
"Save these numbers." his text read.
"Okay should I save them as daddy or Zaied?" I replied.
"The first one." he replied.
"Go get ready it is almost 3 o'clock and you still have to get to Johannesburg airport from Pretoria." he sent me another text.
"Okay." I replied then went to do as I was told.
Luckily my parents were already getting ready when I got out of my room. While taking a bath I made sure to shave every inch of my body so that if anything happens between me and Zaied I am not caught off guard. I finished taking a bath, I decided to wear my black nike tracksuits with my nike black socks and then put on my yeezy sliders on. I decided to put my big curly afro into a simple bun then finished my look with a lot of lip gloss.
I got to the car and doubled checked everything for the thousandth time then informed my dad to start the car when everything was all set. There was a lot of traffic on the way to Johannesburg airport so I got a lot of anxiety and got scared that I might miss my flight. We got to the airport right on time, I said my goodbyes to my parents, got my bags all checked in then went to board my flight.
Once the airplane was in the sky I got very excited and happy. The scenery I got from the sky was twilight and beautiful. I was so glad I chose a flight that leaves around sunset, everything is so beautiful right now. I made sure to take a lot of pictures and videos of the whole experience.
