Little brother?

We are back at school from the long weekend. And our English teachers are giving us a practice run for college essay that has to be sent before third marking period.

"Okay, class I need you to take your time on this paper. Take it very seriously because if they come out really amazing. Ten papers will be picked to go to a good college for a full scholarship. Write about life or a someone who was important to you that made a difference or even a story. It's your choice." She says handing out our assignments papers for the essay giving us a full semester to work on our essay before it done.

I start with some ideas for a story but give up on them. When my name is called on the speaker for early dismissal for the rest of the day.

I get up confused as I'm collecting my stuff before walking out the classroom to the office. When I get to the office, I see that it's my father.

I get closer to him to ask why he is picking me up. But he beats me to my own question. "Something came up and I need you to be around me for a bit. Plus, we need to go to the hospital." He says rushing us to the car.

He tells the driver to step on it. It takes us about three minutes to get there. When we get inside I find that the women that my father was arguing with were here angry looking.

"I never wanted him. This is your fault, so you raise him." She says handing him a bunch of papers. I look between them and my dad doesn't look shocked out all with her outburst.

"If you never wanted him then you should've just given him to me in the first place." He says through gritted teeth.

"Who are you two talking about?" I ask as I'm seeing her hand his court papers. "No one who is important to you." The women say getting nasty to me.

"You don't talk to my child like that. And I'll be taking him with me too. Since you don't care for him." He says taking me to some room with a little boy.

I look at the boy to find that he has the same blue eyes as my dad and me. I look at my father for answers. "Don't look at me like that. She got me through my darkest days when your mother left with you. I wanted to raise him when I found out, but she took off until now." He says looking disappointed with himself.

"Hey, we'll get through this together. He is family now." I say looking at him. "You're not upset with this?" He says looking back at me. "No, I'm upset but more with the fact that you didn't tell me sooner. And I've always wanted a younger sibling." I say to him as he hangs his head in shame.

"Plus, we have to tell him that he is coming home with us. What's his name?" I say looking at the kid.

"His name is Max and he is nine. Now let's go so you can meet him." He says walking towards Max.

We sit next to him to explain that he was coming home with us, but he started to cry. I rub his back to smooth his crying. "Everything is going to be all right. But do you want to know what the greatest thing about this?" I say looking at him.

"What?" He says all cute as he whips his face. "You have a big sister and a daddy to protect you from all the bad monsters. Also, you have someone to hang out with all the time." I say tickling him.

He laughs loudly as he can saying 'stop' 'stop'

"Only if you promise to stop crying?" I say looking at him. "Okay, I promise I'll stop." He says looking at me with a smile.

"Alright good. Now let's go home?" Dad says taking his hand. "Wait, why was he in the hospital?" I say as we are checking him out.

"We aren't sure yet. We have another appointment in a couple of days." He says as he hands the nurse the paperwork.

We get into the car and the drive home was silent the whole ride.

We get into the house to find no one was home. So, I agreed to show Max to his room.

It turns out his room is across from mine. "This is your room. Let's get you unpacked." I say seeing his suitcases.

"Now, what do you want to unpack first?" I ask sitting on his bed. He points at the one he wants to unpack.

We start unpacking to put everything away. When we are done it's time for a shower before bedtime.

Before I tell him it's time to shower, I turn around to find him with a towel, bedtime clothes and his shampoo.

"The maids always had me shower around this time. So, I won't give you any trouble." He says looking up at me. "You're fine. Now, let's show you to the bathroom." We walk out of the room down the wall to the bathroom. I turn the light and water on for him before walking out of the bathroom.

I get to my room to get changed into my pajamas for the night. When all of a sudden Blaire comes running into my room looking scared out of her mind.

I grab her into a hug asking, "What's wrong?"

"The kid in the bathroom has blood everywhere." She says looking horrified. When she says that I let go of her to run to the bathroom to check on Max.

I get to the bathroom to find my dad already there. "He had a really bad nose bleed that's all," Dad says as he cleans off the blood from his face and hands. "Are you sure?" I asked worriedly. "Yeah. I got it under control. Go back to your room for the night. Max tell your sister goodnight." Dad says stepping to Max's side after he is done cleaning him up.

"Goodnight Nora." He says to me. "Goodnight Max sleep tight," I say before walking back to my room for the rest of the night.

I come into my room to find Blaire asleep. I guess I was gone longer than I thought. I don't bother waking her. I just cover us up and turn the lights out for bed.
