I snapped my head back up. I was met with none other than the luscious, choclate brown eyes I was so used to. The owner was wearing a fitted, sleek, jet black suit. Their shoes were polished so much that I was almost tricked me into thinking I was looking into a mirror. Their tie was black, matching their suit with their shirt poping out like a cloud in a clear blue sky. It was none other than my oldest friend.
It was David.
"Well, well, well. This house is a dream and everything in it is a wish." David winked playfully at me with a smirk, eyeing me up and down.
"What? You like the house?" I asked, ignoring his playboy personality which he had just displayed.
"Yeah, I haven't even seen half of the rooms or the upstairs. But I can already tell it's going to be like royalty-" A deliberate cough from behind me cut our dry conversation. I tried to turn around, lifting my dress up and staring down at the ground cautiously, trying not to trip over my dress or the carpet. In the hallway, stood two well dressed males. I knew them all too well, although seeing these figures dressed up like this, shocked me.
"Oh, Zeke, Ryder. You, you're here." I slightly bowed my head to the side. They mirrored my gesture. "Wow, look at us, such respectful teenagers!" David commented adding an eyeroll at the end. None of us answered him. I think we all new too well that if we did, it would just end up into a bickering match. And none of us wanted that.
We stood around chatting for a while. Talking about this and that, and even the dust on the door hande beside us.
The revving of a powerful car engine caught all of our attention. We walked further into the perpared ball room. As if on cue, classical jazz music started to play, giving the hall an extra royal feature. A finishing touch.
Ryder pulled us back and handed us small little devices in the palm of our hands. "Ear pieces?" I asked. "Only use them if necessary. If asked about them, they're for us and the staff to converse and make the event run smoothly." Ryder explained while clipping his into his ear and pressing a button on it to turn it on. We nodded in unison, not questioning his actions. While fitting the monitors in, Ryder announced. " No funny shit okay, this is a formal gathering and to help people see our status not or guns, capīse?" I rolled my eyes with a scoff escaping my mouth. " Yeah, ye- oh hello! Welcome!" I greeted two guests loudly, announcing their arrival. " Oh, thank you, Miss. Blaze. I'm Tori Cunningham and this is my twin sister Aoibhinn Cunningham. We're 6th year student. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
A young, brunette girl introduced herself, using small, gentle, hand gestures and an appreciative smile sculpted on the lower half of her face.
So, they're 6th years. They're older than me.
I made a mental note to myself, memorising their faces and their outfits. The looked innocent and harmless but that could all be an act, for all any of us knew, they could have killed a city last night and got away with it.
" Please, come and enjoy the ball. It's only just started. Follow me." As I turned around, a few snickers and coughs were breathed behind me.
Just breath Cam, breath.
I was having trouble walking in my heels, so I walked slowly and cautiously. With every click of my heel on the polished floor, we were nearing the food table or should I say "the refreshments" .
"I hope it did not take too long to get here." "No, not at all. We actually live in a bordering estate. Although, it wasn't brought to our attention there were houses on this side of the city. Very, extraordinary, must I add." I quite taken back at her accent. The more she talked, the more her Dublin accent fell, showing light to another which I was not so sure about.
" So where are you guys from? " I started. " I here a accent, english? Scottish? " I guessed." Umm, actually from whales, it's a common mistake. We moved here about four years ago, when our parents retired."
I prossesed this information.
I need to do a backround check on, Tori Cunningham and her sister. Their parents are retired, yet they are about 16 to 19 years old? Doesn't make sense.
" What about you, you have an amarican accent, would I be right? " The other twin finally talked. "Erh, yeah, just moved this week actually." I answered.
Tori grabbed a wine glass and poured herself a glass of punch. She gestured to me, asking me if I wanted some but then quickly pulled back and apologised. "Oh my, I'm sorry, I forgot you might be underage. My apologies." I simply shook my hands and head giving her the most reassuring smile I could muster. We stood in awkward silence for a few seconds after that.
As if god was answering my prayers, a group of other people came to fill some space in the hall. "Excuse me, if you will, but I must greet the other guests." I bowed again while staggering back in my heels toward the newly found group.
A hand blocked my path.
"Yes David, need something?" I snapped trying to pry his hand away from me. "Don't go up to them." He said sternly, making sure I got the memo. "But why, that would be rude." I argued.
"They are not ones to mix with." He warned me giving me 'that' look. Even with the warning, the anticipation killed me.
With that, I snapped my hand back and rushed towards the group. "WELcome." I half yelled to get their attention before David catch up to me again. I heard David swear under his breath again behind me while slowly approaching us with his hands in this pockets. His expression said it all. He was not happy with me.
The group turned and greeted me. It was then, at that moment, I realised , I f*cked up.
