Chapter 34

There, in the middle of the group, stood the same guy whom I and David had met on the track. But this time his face was displayed. I looked at him up and down, slowly lifting my eyes when eventually, our eyes met.

The world around me stopped and faded giving way to a blue-sapphire background. The same eyes remained the center of my vision but they were paired with slightly younger features. The figure had light brown hair and wore black, torn clothing. The boy opened his mouth but, his cries were distant. Dozens of bubbles floated upwards. It was then I realized.... he was drowning. His yells were locked in and carried away in those few bubbles, but his eyes were wide and it was clear that they were screaming for help.

The next scene was played.

He was moving frantically, waving his hands and legs non-stop. Again, he yelled but nothing was heard. He was trapped underwater and no one was near to help him. Multiple scenes flashed before my eyes, very quickly. In each, the boy was panicked, flailing around helplessly, bubbles escaping his mouth every second and every second his breath was running out along with his energy.

The very last scene was the one that stood out to me. He was now floating in a 'U' shape, slowly making his way down to the abyss of the ocean. Then suddenly he opened his eyes. They stared straight through my soul. He reached out his left hand to me and let out one last scream. But this time, it was different. Very different. His scream was deafening, his eyes were half open and his body was weak. His last ounce of oxygen squirmed up towards me in more bubbles, until, I blinked. Everything was gone. I was back in the hall, facing the group. I was dry and the boys were smiling warmly at me. David was just reaching a halt to my right side when I fully regained the realization of where I was. All of these scenes that were in my head played in slow motion but it must have only have lasted a few milliseconds because the crowd seemed to be the same and David was only approaching us.

My mouth went dry and the same with my mind. It was as empty as a Nutella jar after kindergarten toddlers had forcefully taken the jar off that restricted shelf and ate it all for themselves.

"Hello? Miss?" A quiet voice dragged me back to the situation. Blinking a few times, I looked around at the group with a smile pretending nothing happened. "Welcome, and who might you guys be?" I asked, forgetting my mannerisms mid-sentence yet continuing on. " I feel like we should ask you the same question." A statement flew out of a guy's mouth.

He stood furthest from me in a blood-red or wine-colored suit and he looked older than any of us. Although, upon looking at him once more, I noticed that his blazer and jacket had no pockets. It was a small detail but yet surprisingly hard to miss. I didn't say anything nor try and bring attention to it. It was a useful piece of information that could help us in further investigations.

" Well I'm Camilla Bla-aze, this is David Connel. " I turned and pointed to the other two who were busy entertaining a couple of new guests. "That's Royce and.. "

" Zack. Royce and Zack. " David saved me from second-hand embarrassment and most importantly giving a suspicious glint to all four of us.

I wasn't used to having such little information in a mission. For example, I didn't mention Ryder's (Royces) last name because I forgot it. Normally when given a mission, I get about a month to two months to prepare in advance and get my 'role' and their lives so engraved into my brain that I forget my own life. But this time I wasn't given that needed time. Nor was I given much background information on my 'role'. If I was asked about my parents, I wouldn't know what to say, as I don't know what is written on my ID booklet. (ID booklet is what hackers or important undercover organizations such as the C.I.A would find for any 'background information' on a certain person)

The group looked at us up and down. It was clear that they found us suspicious in some way. I don't know in what way they found us suspicious. But I brushed the idea off my shoulder and continued.

" So, tell us about yourselves. " David finished my explanation and opened up a new conversation with the group. " Well, I'm Samuel Peters. " The guy who attired in the wine suit entered the conversation. The rest followed his steps and introduced themselves. There was Dominic Harris, Tony Blair, John Lewes, and Felix Hall.

My eyes widened and my breath stopped. I snatched a glance at David but it didn't seem to affect him in any way.

Could it really be him?!
