Chapter 22: Baseball Tickets

The day was overcast but there were no signs of rain. Despite the clouds, Vintner walked more lightly on his feet than he had in a very long time. He felt connected to the world again, not because of the people he had spent half his day talking to but because of Darryl. Vintner had spent so much time trying to break any connection he had to the world that he had forgotten how right it could feel. When Vintner turned the last corner towards the ball fields, he could see that he wasn't too late. They were still playing. He could hear the chatter coming from the benches and watched from a distance as the pitcher got the next hitter to fly out to centerfield.
