Since Richards broken leg didn't allow them to move very fast they were forced to trudge along very slowly. The pace was beginning to wear the trio down. dark clouds overhead began to form "looks like it's going to rain boys we need to hurry" said Mr Stein. Jason nodded his head as Richard passed out from the pain "I wonder if the rain will keep the apocalypse creatures away like the river did."
If mr. Stein had not been there to help Jason with Richard's body Jason probably wouldn't have been able to get him home. Jason may not have weighed as much as Richard but he was still quite strong , although carrying a unconscious person is not like carrying a person that is awake.
Richard would alternate between awake and asleep the entire trip home. Luckily they saw no creatures which gave them the hopeful feeling that maybe the rain did keep the creatures away. Was it just fresh water or any type of water that was the next logical question to ask. Both of them were asking that question to themselves internally.
The possibility that the rain kept the creatures away opened up many different avenues they could explore. For instance they could move freely while it was raining but on the downside they couldn't go inside buildings or anything covered for fear of running into a extremely strong creatures or hordes of creature's.
After a full day of travel they finally made it home luckily it rained for more than two-thirds of the time that they were traveling. So they ran into nothing but small creatures they avoided those creatures with great ease.
While unpacking all of the supplies they picked up at the hardware store. Jason noticed he had gathered only 45 planks of wood and would need to return at a later date together more. They would need at least 2,000 to fortify the house and maybe build a small base there.
"I'm sorry I should have gave you my backpack as well Mr Stein. If I would have you two been able to gather twice as much material I don't know why I didn't think about it before now." Richard uttered with a look of disappointment.
"That's quite alright boy if I would have had it I may not have been able to get out from under the shelf, so it all worked out the way it should have. And you saved my bacon so no need to apologize."
"But I have some bad news we're going to have to set your leg if you want to walk, again and it's not going to feel pleasant." looking back at Jason Mr.stien said "go grab me some straight pieces of wood and Twine or cloth so I can make a splint for your brother." "here bite down on this boy" as Jason left the room closing the door he heard an audible pop.
Jason returned 10 minutes later with the ingredients for a splint and found Richard passed out.
