Facing my fear

It took me 72 hours to come up with a plan. Although uncertain, I knew, facing my fear was the right thing to do even if it meant repeating a school year.

To make correct my mistakes, I needed to prove to myself that I could pass the national exams, get into college and become a journalist. First, I must tell Mrs Eunice the truth, she was my guardian and the mother figure in my life. I trust she would keep my secret and support me in my plans.

I took the first step into the fairly busy street. At this time of the morning, it was uncommon to find more than fifteen people on the street, however since the holidays was almost over most kids were around.

Despite having a cold feet, I braced myself and set off with brown paper bags of parsley and mint in both hands, pressed to my flanks.
